Oh yeah, he was awesome as Riddle. I would have loved to have seen him come back.

In that scene he doesn't resemble the current Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) nor is he the current age as he is in the book. But they'll have to conjure up a way to make his features "melted and distorted".

No way, Ralph Fiennes will play that scene. He must. In the book Voldemort is already a little disfigured in that scene. And, again, the parts are for teenagers from 15 to 18 years old. Voldermont wasn't that young when he inquires Dumbledore in the pensieve scene.

I'm really hoping OotP is as good as it looks, but trying to keep my excitement to a minimum after GoF. The pics and trailers look great I just hope it doesn't feel rushed (like GoF) and too many things are left unexplained (like Gof and PoA). I'm definitely ordering tickets for opening day on IMAX though.

i'm kinda pissed that Voldemorte has normal eyes here give as they are supposed to be scarlet with cat like slits for pupils...

but the rest of these pictures look wonderful

I really like this idea of having Ralph's eyes be visible. In last month's Game Informer, they had a great read over the 'Uncanny Valley' with the head of ILM. He said the hardest thing to sell a CGI covered character are the eyes. One of the reasons Davy Jones looked so great was because Bill's eyes were visible. Eyes sell the character and it is important the actor's eyes are visible if you want the utmost realism you can get. He looks freaky enough...I think his eyes humanize him a bit and mirror his eventual downfall.

New director brings darker approach to Potter film

Filmmaker David Yates has brought a darker edge to the latest Harry Potter film -- he tackles the adolescent boy wizard as he walks a thin line between good and evil.

"Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," Yates' first major work and the fifth in the blockbuster film series, shows Harry experiencing the growing pains and teenage angst that come with the ascent to adulthood.

In a storyline that draws parallels with the growing age of the young actors -- and brought disapproval from many readers of the book -- Harry comes across as a more gritty character than in the previous films.

"Harry is angry," actor Daniel Radcliffe described his role at a news conference to promote the film on Monday.

Yates, previously best known for TV dramas such as the "Girl in the Caf馱uot; and "State of Play," has combined aspects of previous films with his own take on Harry's character, said Radcliffe, who has played Potter throughout the series based on the novels by author J.K. Rowling.

"David has taken the best aspects of the other films and added some grit that wasn't previously there," Radcliffe said.

Emma Watson, who plays Harry's sidekick Hermione, agreed.

"The Order of the Phoenix is the most genuine of all the films so far," said Watson. "David wanted to find the truth from within all the characters."

Yates was keen to explore new ground and push the actors further than before.

"He really stopped us from getting complacent," said Watson.

Yates, who was third choice to direct the film after both Mike Newell and Mira Nair turned the job down, said he was "desperate to put his stamp" on the film and differentiate it from the work of the three directors before him.

"You have to be competitive," Yates told the news conference.

He has not been without help from his predecessors, however.

"Alfonso Cuaron and Mike Newell spent lots of time with David. They were very generous in their advice," said the film's co-producer, David Heyman.

Yates, who is directing the next film in the series and is also tipped to be in the running for the final film, clearly enjoyed his Harry Potter debut.

"Doing this film at Leavesden Studios felt like coming home. The team were certainly off to a good start before they had even begun to write the script," said Yates.

"Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" has its official world premiere in London on July 3.

Rowling's seventh and last book in the series, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," is due out on July 21.

I don't know if you've heard this or not, but MySpace is holding free screenings at select cities of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on June 28 in the U.S.A. only (you have to have Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Black Screen Showings in your Top Friends and print a copy of your profile in order to get inside) at 8 P.M. local time (they start seating at 7 P.M.). Fortunately, I have MySpace and live in one of the cities, but I have no doubt it'll be packed.

I'll see if I can't go early and secure a seat. If I do manage to see it, I'll offer up a detailed review of what I liked/disliked about the movie.

I'm looking forward to this film, but I'm one of the few who really just sees these movies as movies... I don't read the books.

From the opinions of most everyone I know, however, I'm not too excited about this particular film. Unlike the last two books, which often rank as favorites among everyone I talk to, this book is universally seen as the worst in the series. Too much teen drama and angst and people acting like asses, they say. So I'm not sure if I'm very optimistic. Of course, from my perspective, it's hard to imagine they're going to make a movie more painful than Chamber of Secrets, which had me almost clawing my eyes out because of Dobby. I don't care how anybody feels about any CGI character ever created, my hate for Dobby goes far deeper. You may want to hang Jar-Jar, but I would make sweet love to Jar-Jar before watching Dobby for another 5 seconds. I want to tear out his entrails and feed them to Buckbeak.

I digress.

What about those of you who DO read the books? Do you agree that this (OOtP) is the weakest one so far? Or do you love it?

OOTP and HBP(the next one)

are absolutely my favourite of the series.

I think that OOTP is my favorite read of the series and that it comes second as the best book behind HBP. Being around the same age as Harry when i read the book I can really connect to what he is feeling even though i was a year older I think you get sucha good look at what he actually is goin through and he got to finally let out some of the feelings he had. It felt very angsty but that was the draw the tension was so great you could cut it with a knife and that would often happen and you would still want to read. There are things that happen in this book that are going to go down as hall of fame moments for the series and I really dont think that the book is bad at all it has a few Dobby moments but you know what JKR took Dobby ( her biggest mistake) and used him effectivly and that is awesome, this book really shows her gifts as a writer.

I agree, POA covered all its bases. Someone told me later where the Marauder's Map came from, but you know... it's unnecessary information.

As opposed to Dumbledore's bizarre unexplained whisper about something at the end of GOF.

Basically the whole Marauder's explaination was way too glossed over, map and friendship, the secret keeper switch which ultimately led to Lily and James being killed. The hate Snape had for Harry, Sirius, Lupin and James (although the pensieve scene in this movie could help that). Two other things that I felt were glossed over was the Crookshanks/Scabbers stuff and Buckbeak's trial, these had major impacts on the books, but were given a very short amount of screen time. I really feel PoA could've been a much better movie, if only 15 minutes were added and gave this stuff a little more screen time.

I think OotP is a very god book, I think a lot of people were somewhat turned off at first because it was much darker than the previous books. Harry is very angry throughout the book because he's not being given the full story on what's happening, everyone's keeping him almost entirely in the dark. After all the's accomplished, he rightly believes he should be kept in the loop. Also, the Ministry is trying to discredit his story of Voldemort's return and make him out to be crazy. It's very angsty, but in my mind, it was the right tone, Harry has proven capable, but because of his age, everyone who cares about him wants to preserve what little innocence he has left. That's the basic theme of the book to me, preserving the innocence of youth in someone who's inncocence has already been taken.
