The Official TIH Marketing Discussion Thread

Just saw 'Control' on ITV on the break of 'Britains got Talent' now that will reach a large audience.

Well, no I didn't say that exactly, but now that you mention it... I think that at this point most people think that it IS a sequel, so people don't really feel confused. They are just ignorant to the facts.
I think having a completely different cast does make a statement to people. That does help seperate it from the last film in the public's mind, which was part of Marvel's strategy from the beginning. Once Norton, Tyler and company hit the rounds and make a statement about that it will be made clear.

People thinking it is a sequel its a problem. You can't expect Norton and Tyler on late night shows to educate the majority of the moviegoing public.

People knew Batman Begins had a different cast but they still thought it was related to the older movies.

And how did that hurt Batman Begins exactly? Why does there need to be such an investment in showing that it is not a sequel in the marketing? If people have this impression, is it really going to handicap the movie tremendously. I think people get that this will be a different experience based on the fact that the cast and trailers look so different...and that's all they really need to think to get them in the theater. Saying, "Hey this movie is not a sequel", is really moot at that point. I think a lot of people on these boards are under the misconception that the "not a sequel" claim would have a lot more impact than it actually would.

It hurt Batman Begins because the movie underperformed, and it gave it a lot of baggage in the eyes of moviegoers.

But it's a problem because people didn't like the first one, and before this movie got made there was no demand for a sequel. But they think this is a sequel, and that's a problem.

Time, money, and resources are better invested in showing this movie is exciting, will have great special effects, acting and storytelling. That's what will overcome any stigma of the last fim, not outright saying "it's not a sequel". The marketing is accomplishing all of the above in my opinion.

Well we really won't know until the movie comes out.

But in the end, a sequel to The Hulk was never made.

Very true. And we won't even know then either, because we will have no idea how it would have performed if the marketing took another approach. Nothing to compare to. That will all be speculation too. We get what we will get basically.

Went to Kmart the other day and just noticed the bag was advertising TIH.

www.kmart.com/hulk

It's on the SHH Banners now. www.action-figure.com is doing Hulk related stuff. Burger Kings prmotion should be running by the end of the week.

Well, they are doing everything at once, lets see how this bomb marketing will work out.

According to Aint It Cool News the makers are saying that it isn't really a redo or a sequel...I have a question...what the hell is it then? Also I haven't been this confused since the Superman Returns debacle.

It's either a sequel or it's not.

It's a reboot. I'm guessing they just don't want to use a phrase that strong.

God knows what Superman Returns was. It wasn't even accurate to Superman: The Movie, let alone Superman II.

Why not? Are they afraid of hurting Ang Lee's feelings? I mean all the actors and the director are big boys, I'm sure they can handle a studio saying that the first movie was a mistake even if they loved the movie to death. As a matter of fact I think that they probably could care less what Marvel are doing with this "franchise" and I use the term loosely.

Their words on the last film seem to be very inconsistent. Feige has been quoted as saying that this film is a reboot and won't "suck" like the last one, yet here you have statements like that and quotes from Leterrier saying that he enjoyed the first. Even within the studio, there doesn't seem to be a consistent stance on Ang Lee's film. Still, we know it's not a sequel. That rules out what else can be said of it.

There are people who liked the film I know, but I think that Leterrier is just sucking up and covering his ass in case people don't like this film and or say "how dare a silly little action director bad mouth an Ang Lee film, even if it did suck."

I'm still not 100% sure because it looks and feels like a sequel to the first film, kinda like how Batman Forever is a sequel to Batman Returns, it has a different look/feel and different actors but it is still a sequel. And I'm not being silly either, I'm still not sure. I wish everybody would stop pussyfooting about the issue and say it's not a sequel or it's a sequel, because I'm losing respect for them all. It being a loose sequel doesn't mean that it's going to suck I just want to know what the hell I'm going to be watching 5 months from now.

Its not a sequel.

Norton: First off, it’s utterly unrelated to that film. This is in no way a response to it or a picking up from it. I think like what Chris Nolan and those guys did with Batman, we just said, “We’re going to start completely with our own version of this myth or this saga.”

I think TIH is going to be a combination of several things, simply based off the review I just read on Aint it Cool. It seems like they are mixing elements from the 70's tv show, the comics, and Ang Lee's Hulk with Leterrier's twist on it. How that will work out we'll see on the 13th.

The people I've talked to realize this isnt exactly a sequel. However just about anyone I've talked to about TIH isn't excited to see it b/c Ang Lee's film left a really bad taste in their mouth.

^And thats the exact reason why I don't think that the movie will perform.

Christ. Think James Bond.

What kind of competition is this?

I'm guessing it's to win tickets to the previews, and or Hulk related goodies.
I was too busy last time I was there so could not stop and check it out.
Will do next time.

:bh:

What you don't want Hulk using hidden lazers that come out of his knees? :cwink::oldrazz:
LOL, that would be kinda cool, out of place but cool. I was going to give a longer response but I realized that "no" sumed up me feelings perfectly. I just disagree so that should suffice.
