I think it'll be better than Countdown. If nothing else, it's got the inherently interesting chemistry of the trinity going for it. As JLA just showed, you can literally just drop those three into a room and have them talk, and it'll make for a pretty solid comic.
I think he's gotten better as a storyteller but his style has grown more exaggerated. I hated how he drew pretty much everyone's face in Ultimate Spider-Man and thought he was much better at faces on ASM. But his art on Trinity looks great to me. Maybe he just drew freaky faces in USM because most of the cast was teenagers or something.
i bought some old bagley Spider-Mans recently and he was very clean and clear in his panels. now i feel like hes rushing. kinda like Andy Kubert now compared to "90s X-Men" Andy Kubert (of course that could be because EVERYONE was drawing like Lee and Leifeld back then).
I guess we just have different tastes, then. Andy Kubert of today beats Andy Kubert of yesteryear hands down for me. He and Adam have both refined their styles a lot and started trying some new and interesting things. I particularly love the texturing they get whenever they draw on cardboard (that'd be all the grayish-brown drawings you see from them).
when Kubert teamed with Morrison for that first run after OYL i loved it. i was just surprised at the difference, and i was happy that he developed his own style. and as for Bagley, i wouldn't mind his new style if it didn't look like he was rushing.
If Bagley can keep that art level thoughout the series I'll be very impressed.
Also great first issue - I've said ti before but I love how Busiek writes Superman and it seems Krona maybe having something to do with this series - which is very interesting.
Does the issue finish with a DC character profile, like they did with "Countdown"? I loved that idea. A lot of the time those profiles were way better than the rest of the issue.
Bagley is one of my favorite artists, having gotten me into comics with his work on Ultimate Spider-Man. But I, too, feel like he's rushing his art for Trinity. Which, to be honest, he probably is.
But other than that, I liked the first issue. Sets things up nicely, and I'm interested in both stories.
First, I feel like I read the entire issue online before purchase.
Second, am confused as hell about this Enigma fellow. Is it 2-face and Riddler mixed? Quite odd.
Third, this issue goes to prove just how unnecessary that stupid room in JLA really is. The breakfast scene was much more enjoyable.
Im almost certain it was a futuristic Riddler, why from the future I dont know. Maybe its a theme thing. Morgan is from the past and Riddler is from the future and that big guy is supposed to be present. Seems like a stretch though
