Green Lantern will not be released in Australia until August and Super 8 is doing so so here, so X-men is still almost sold out in all the shows i see.

Why is the movie not being released in China ?

China releases only certain number of hollywood films. In addition, they are uncomfortable with movies that deal with subject matters related to communism.

The show I wanted to see. The group of kids in front of me tried to get tickets to that show and they told there were only 7 seats left, so they got tickets to the show starting 20 minutes later.

Granted, it's probably in the smaller theater thanks to GL, but the theater was pretty crowded and I heard a bunch of people saying they were getting tickets for X-Men.
Yeah, that's common.

You've got these big back to back crowd pleasers in Popper's Penguins, Lantern, and Super 8. At this point, a lot of movie theaters are having to push movies like X-Men into smaller soundstages and with fewer daily showings. As this movie is still picking up steam here and there, I can definitely see how it might be selling out in certain places.

Heck, I walked inside a Bridesmaids showing today while killing time, it was in a smaller soundstage, but the theater was completely packed.

That's a shame. It could make millions and millions more in China. Has the movie been shown in Japan ? I hope it makes a lot of money there !

X-men:First Class grossed $3.3m on Friday and is expected to do 11.5m this weekend.

http://www.deadline.com/hollywood/

That would be another 50+% drop this weekend, which would definitely kill FC chances of outgrossing the original X-Men if that number holds up.

^Thats more like a 52% drop if it does 11.5mil over the weekend. Wait for Mojo's estimates this afternoon in my neck of the woods at least before saying anything to harsh.

I'm still expecting about a 50% or over a 50% drop even with Mojo's numbers. As I said GL is hitting it hard and the word of mouth is good (not as good as the fanboys are making it out to be) but I don't think that you are going to convince anyone to see the movie who doesn't want to see it.

I saw it again last night instead of gl since that was awful. My theatre was an ultra screen auditorium and it was almost sold out. It might not top any of others but honestly who was expecting it to. Just had too many things going against it

MORE GOOD INTERNATIONAL NEWS:

In two weeks, First Class has surpassed X3 boxoffice in 3 countries!:

..................FC...............X3

RUSSIA: ........$7,049,114 - $6,071,371
SINGAPORE: .$3,289,228 - $3,070,217
MALAYSIA: ...$2,826,804 - $1,962,167

If these arent great news I dont know what it is. The prequel with a totally new cast has done more than the third part of a well known Franchise with the big names (Hugh, Halle, Patrick, Ian...). This is an important achievement for Fox.

Official Friday estimate from BOM:

X-Men: First Class - $3,350,000

According to what X-Men fan site said it was projected to do 13 Million this weekend.
If It does 11 Million then It would be up to 119 Million after weekend.

The problem Is with Green Lantern,Super 8,and the New Jim Carrey film out there now
It could drop to 1 Million on weekday showings. It would be better to do 12 or 13 Million
this weekend so It could hit 120 Million this weekend.

I thought I read somewhere that its doing pretty well worldwide. Not like Pirates 4 good but pretty good which would make sense with its cast being from all over. There will no doubt be a sequel for this movie which I can't wait for

its doing really well worldwide isn't it?

Its doing really well in certain countries compared to Wolverine and X3.

In the big markets, not as great, but the movie has a strong possibility of getting $200M in the foreign market.

I doubt that it will make 200 in the foreign markets maybe 180

It has done 133 in just two weeks.

And the movie hasnt been released in some countries yet.

the first weekend was 60M
the second 40M

lets suppose the next ones will be like this:

third: 20
fourth: 10
fifth: 5

More weekdays....

Between 170-200.

Lets see what happens this weekend worldwide....

It's not doing gangbusters, but it is holding its own despite being up against a lot of negatives: 1) The two previous installments were low quality, 2) an incredibly crowded summer box office, 3) Marvel studio fanboys/girls who want fox to lose the franchise and 4) a lesser-known cast with no 'big' names. This was never going to be a blockbuster--it was basically Fox's means of remaining a player in the comic book/superhero movie genre this summer. The movie has certainly done that very successfully.

The sequel depends on if Fox views First Class as an investment (a la Batman Begins) or an attempt at a mega-blockbuster. With the critical acclaim, I can see Fox viewing it as the former.

If Fox looks to the numbers in those countries where First Class is doing more than X3 and Wolverine, they should be more confident about the potential of the sequel.

The sequel has the potential to have a bigger worldwide boxoffice than X1, X2 and Wolverine.

And possibly bigger than X3.

I'd argue that the hate of the previous two instalments is only relevant among film fanatics online, and not among the mainstream. I know mainstream viewers who loved Wolverine, and some who regard it as their favourite of all the X-Men movies. The bitterness against X3 and Wolverine is a phenomenon among fanboys and general online film obsessives. It would have made these people hesitant, for sure.

Yes to all those. I'd also add that I thought the marketing wasn't that powerful. It was centred on Facebook and on online interviews, when many of those people already had made up their minds on whether they were seeing the film. The mainstream were less aware of it. Those were the people they needed to get excited.

This was never going to be a blockbuster--it was basically Fox's means of remaining a player in the comic book/superhero movie genre this summer. The movie has certainly done that very successfully.

Yes, it's been a critical success and a success with fans, and the mainstream are discovering it bit by bit. I know people who are only just going to see it. Partly because it was hardly on their radar, partly because they are bombarded with film choices at a time when they are also trying to watch their spending.

The sequel depends on if Fox views First Class as an investment (a la Batman Begins) or an attempt at a mega-blockbuster. With the critical acclaim, I can see Fox viewing it as the former.

They will definitely want a sequel but will have to change a few things next time - a less nightmarish production schedule, a better release date, and more prominent mainstream marketing. They may also add a big name. And they might even consider 3D and IMAX, though the X-Men doesn't need that.

They need the start of the Summer, or Memorial day next time. They couldn't have picked a worse release date for this film.

It's kind of ironic that Russia is fine with FC but not China, after all the former introduced Communism to China in the first place.

So what does this have to make to get a sequel? I would think by now word of mouth would kick in but apparently it isn't :csad: ....damn you x3 and wolverine

I think word of mouth is working....but it's a summer packed with movies, the blockbusters are coming one week after another. It's too much for a lot of people, especially in this grim economy where people are trying to save money.
