I agree with you guys, Phoenix was nowhere near using all of her power. I am torn between two theories though.
One being that Phoenix was trying to kill him while Jean was holding the power back and only injuring him.
Two being that Phoenix didn't want to kill him as she didn't see him as a threat, so she was simply toying with him.
At first I thought option one but I think I am starting to go with the second.

I'd say Jean was holding back part of her because she didn't want to kill another person.

The closer he gets, the more severe the psychic swipes until he is face to face with her. "Are you really willing to die for them?" "No...not for them...for you". That took old Phoenix by surprise. If he had answered any other way, she would have tossed him around like a dog with a chew toy, and them made him a bloody smear, and she probably would have enjoyed it too.

Yeah it's the smile that makes me think she was only toying. But then again, she was schizophrenic, she was probably doing it for both reasons I said! lol

since where kinda on this topic, when phoenix and xavier where going head to head, i was thinking xavier was trying to control her, that perhaps limitted him and led to his desmise, but what if he went all out lets say to kill her could he have done it. perhaps by limiting himself just to control her and not really hurt her he was not using his full power.

chicagodave; I don't think so. I think Phoenix really did just surpass Xavier in that field. They both had the battle, him trying to control her and her forcing him out of her head, then when her Phoenix power kicked in, she stood up from her chair and rose him up from his. Though he was probably still fighting her power to the end, I think she truly did just beat him and tore him to shreds.
