The Official Young Avengers/Runaways Thread

HoM was an altered reality shift, not a natural timeline. Unless other-wise said, I don't think HoM would go under the "alternate timeline" category.

fine. how about the League of Losers/2099 MK timeline from the recent MTU? there are a ton of Marvel alternate timelines that have been shunted off into alternate realities.

The future in Marvel is not as set in stone as some believe, especially since many of these characters cannot age, and their status quo's usually remain the same. Plus, new writers have new visions for alternate futures, which are usually safe places to slaughter characters. Hence, why the many "alternate realities". The ALTERNATE DIMENSIONS Handbook from last year has a good list of a bunch of them, including Marvel Knights 2099 (which is not the same as the 2099 where Ravage and Spider-Man 2099 come from). The "Days of Future Past" storyline was claimed to be a "de-facto" future for a while before the events supposedly altered it and left it an "alternate dimension".

Plus, simply knowing of the future can help prevent it, or alter it, as Reed said in the League of Losers arc in MTU. Now that Gert KNOWS she is destined for greatness, will she still be able to reach it, or could she slack a little now that she is "expecting" it. Same for Victor. Now that he knows of Ultron's plans for him becoming "Victorious", will they come to pass? And if so, likely not the same way.

In terms of the Runaways, after Future Gert arrived in the first issue of the 2nd volume (or "season" if you want to be "hip" like Marvel), she not only hinted of Karolina's departure from the team, but seemed to allude that at some point Chase likely dies before his time ("Sweet Chase, I never got to tell you how much I --"). Which'd suck because he's probably my favorite Runaway. He's a rariety in comics; the "normal guy" on a team who actually IS normal, as in NOT a martial artist, NOT a genius, NOT a guy in armor, etc. Of course he has that Frog-Hopper thing under his command and lord knows what secrets it still has.

Some of the Young Avengers have also been just as distrustful of "adults" as the Runaways; Patriot is no fanboy of Captain America, and the team has stood against the Avengers when they've had to (like when they wanted to return Iron Lad to Kang). I don't think their new speedster guy will knowtow to adults, either. The Runaways would probably not be too keen on the spandex and codenames though. That stuff reminds them of Alex.

I also think Chases time is up, which saddens me, because is my favourite runaway too.

What would be cool, if he did die (not that i want him to), is if the leapfrog somehow... stored his personality? like, scanned him or something... that way he could stick around, maybe have a hologram of himself.
that way, him and Gert would be over, who would then cry on Vic's shoulder. Imagin the arguments him and vic would have then? Chase wouldn't even be able to call him a robot or anything, because Chase would be the Leapfrog.

I like that idea actually.

Nah, I want to see Chase turn into a softcore Punisher for the Marvel:NEXT generation. Not some "You killed my family, I'll kill all bad guys" type psycho, but something along the lines of a person who's disillusioned with the super-heroing world and uses weapons to stop (and in some cases kill) criminals. He could take up the Punisher mantle, which I think he would enjoy, but he wouldn't really target people and blow their brains out 100 times over so much as go about his daily life with a pistol in his jeans and brass knuckles in his pocket. He finds a super villain? Glocked. That's all. He just keeps going, not really desiring social interaction.

I like the Runaways and would prefer none of them die; hopefully BKV has many tricks up his sleeve before he needs to resort to axing someone off every arc.

But, yes, Chase does have a bit of a dark side, as well as some "street cred".

love runaways, best new idea marvel has had since daredevil.

Actually, DD was a ripoff of Dr. Midnite from DC.

Are you sure the preview at Newsarama wasn't the cover, deathshead? I'm disappointed by that if it's an interior. It seems that Marvel's trying to turn Runaways into a kid's book with Young and this guy doing the art for these Runaways crossovers. Snakes on a plane, would that ever suck. I won't let it happen.

I'd have to say Young Avengers is the best new idea from Marvel.

I often have such a hard time deciding whether an issue of RUNAWAYS or YOUNG AVENGERS was better in a given month when both came out, that I don't usually even try and have them share my #1 spot.

i don't know, when i think of runaways, i think of twists in the story, decoder rings, mysteries, cliffhangers, mythology (the gibborims) all with the added super heros thrown into the mix.

when i think of younger avengers, i think of all the classic things that went into old comics.

they are both different books, but very similar, i can't class them together.

I think they are both excellent books. I've only read a few issues of Young Avengers, but I found them to be intelligent and well written. There are the classsic elements, along with the modern day teenage angst. it is an inventive spin on the "teen titans" concept. a group of young wannabe's, modeling themselves after heroes, but the heroes don't want them to be doing it. One against one, one against society, one against self... that one against self, that got really twisted in the Kang situation.

the Runaways is a wholly original and highly inventive series. Vaughn keeps you guessing no matter what. He'll lead you one way, but leave bread crumbs you never pick up on through out. When it was revealed that Alex was the traitor, I read back, praying it wasn't true. and it struck me; Alex was the only one who would have spoken the way the traitor did. Gert might have, but she hated athourity of all forms. Alex did talk that way. and with Ultron, he was mentioned before, as they were going through the rogues gallery, and none of us thought of him. I can't remember a single instance when it was suggested that Ultron might be the father. I'm proud to say I will be putting both titles on my Pull List tomorrow along with The Thing

I started subscribing to both about 2 months ago.

Hey dee.

Well put. Both series are great in their own style.

I like Young Avengers more than Runaways on the simple basis that there's only so much smartass teen backtalk that I can stand in a finite amount of time. The characters are all so rich and developed and it's pretty much the ongoing theme of the whole series but after the sixteenth "LOL grownups are evil and we know this for a fact 'cause our parents were evil LOL" crack in as many weeks, it tends to overdo it. And when I say "overdo it," what I actually mean is "Oh sweet baby Buffy will you please MOVE THE HELL ON already."

But there's no denying the quality of the comic. Definitely one of the top ten out there today.

Man, I like the speedster concept for YA, but #12 looks like they're making him evil. It'd be cool to see him interact with villains in the MU, and to have him find out his "brother", Bewitched, is dating the Rawhide Kid. (Wiccan is dating Hulkling.)

I think they should have used 'Marvel Boy' from Grant Morrison's mini.

It's damn near the same character.
