The Piracy Threat...?

What is the fascination with Japanese shows??? Are they that good where you are taking time out of your day to find these sites and watch this stuff??? I highly doubt it...

Actually, yes, people do that exactly for that reason because they consider them good and like them better than western shows.

It doesn't matter if you take a total piece of work or only a small part of it, copyright laws cover both. if I make a movie by clipping together bits and pieces from other movies it's still a violation of copyright law.

Actually you can use very small pieces under copyright laws....of music, movies, etc.....not to sell it of course.

As far as around here, please show me where we are selling any of this....I damn sure haven't seen a penny of it....

When a production company, magazine, etc asks us to take something down....we do it immediately. There is no problem with it....I highly doubt anyone has lost their job because we have posted a pic of something here, or put a bit of a trailer in an avvy. We do not post movie pics, etc until the production company has released the photos to us....if someone does, we take it down as soon as we see it. We don't get everyone of them, but these companies know that we do our best....AND we are a very useful....FREE publicity for them..... whereas the piracy only loses money for them. We help them MAKE THE MONEY. Hence the name of the site...HYPE. :yay:

so equating us with piracy is a pretty silly argument.

Albafan...love the Avy by the way....he looks so peaceful....I just learned something new today that Japanese TV is in some small demand? here in the West....

lol, thank you....that is my Zen avvy....it puts me in the same place that golf does.....:cwink:

As far as Japanese TV demand here? never heard of it....

Actually it ain't that small considering the huge amount of fan subber groups. ^^

The why is Youtube heavily deleting stuff, like fan trailers and all that. Besides. Do I need to remind you, that on this very side people lauded the fan edit someone did of Batman Forever, even linking to the dl site so everyone could get his version? It's all nice and dandy then or what?

as for artwork. So it's not a violation as long as someone isn't complaining? Well, in that case it's allright of course. Or would it be more because if DC ever tried to enforce its Trademark with all consequences they would have to call for a fine whenever little Jimmy draws a picture of Supes, humiliating themselves heavily in the process?

Show me where filesharers are selling that stuff, making a profit out of it.

The same argument is used by movie pirates. Hey, we don't make any profit we are actually helping because if people really like the movie they dled they will go to see it or buy it.

Besides, I wouldn't be so sure that no one has lost their job when a spy pic landed here :D

And I'm not equating the site with pirates. What I wanted to show with these examples is that people pick and choose when it comes to the Law and before someone wants to be all moral here he should first clean up his own act and not violate or tolerate the violation of trademark right left and right.

Obviously you are not reading my entire posts....and DUH, people have lost their job for posting stolen footage here, pics etc......we are not in all places at all times...BUT do you see those pics and footage still here....NO....

Example....Fox was going to release a pic of Doom from the movie....it was leaked.....it was put on the F4 forum, we did not know that it was not an official release....as soon as we heard from Fox, we pulled it. Made an announcement on the forum, and went from there.

GQ has asked us to pull photos, which we did immediately. As have other pic sites....we pulled them as soon as we were made aware of the problem.

Apparently you have not READ our recent announcement....

YouTube and what is being deleted is far more than what I'm speaking of...I'm talking ;ess than 30 seconds....not full trailers, scenes, etc.....

LMAO, yeah thats what movie pirates are saying.....:whatever:

Actually, no I haven't read it yet

and yes, that's exactly what some pirates, especially filesharers say

Edit: Now I have read it and say "Good first step, now delete all the illegal use of copyrighted characters in the fan art section and THEN you can start talking all high and mighty."

Doesn't change the fact that THEY ARE PROFITING....and it doesn't change the fact that WE ARE NOT.....

Doesn't change the fact that Production Studios are after these filesharers and pirates, and doesn't change the fact that we have great working relationship with the production studios....

Doesn't change the fact that we do not go out of our way to break the law, and do what we can and work hard to work with these production companies, and it doesn't change the fact that movie/music pirates are running like crazy to other countries to pirate their crap because they know it is against the law here, and the studios are after them.....

Last time I checked filesharers don't profit as in getting money for the stuff they share. And of course the law is after them, this country has always backed it when big business wants to make money but other countries are not like that and as long as those countries exist filesharers will always find a free haven, not to speak of making their stuff more secure so that the companies get a really tough time to identify people. TOR networking is pretty much impenetrable as well as other modes of decentralised data trafficing

As for the production studios. I couldn't care less about them or your relationship with them. If you feel like licking their hand everytime they throw you a few crumbs, feel free to do. I consider them greedy bastards who have long lost the interest in making quality.

No, you do not go out of your way but you TOLERATE it, even if it's law breaking that is currently a non issue because enforcing it would be laughable, however as you said earlier Law is Law.

Filesharers are sharing copyrighted material, whether or not they are profiting is not the question at that point, they got it from somewhere....

No filesharers aren't making a profit, they are just being stupid....

Making a profit is only part of the legal portion of this....it is in no way the only illegal portion.

teseract....part of the reason these piracy groups and sites are moving elsewher e out of the country is because the MPAA has been quietly lobbying the FBI to have their own group of agents at their disposal to investigate and deter piracy...and it just might happen in the next year or two....and Copyright Law in this country states that making any unauthorized copy of copyrighted material, whether for profit or no, is considered a punishable offense.

Lick their hands? Um, I've actually never met any of them. We are simply trying to stay within the law, and work with them in order to bring to you....here.....apparently what you enjoy, because....you are....HERE. :yay: You do spend time on a comicbook/movie site that promotes these "greedy bastards"... do you not?

I have no problem with your opinion of them, we would probably agree on quite a bit. But I do not see us trying to stay within the law, and use they legally send to us so that people, like yourself, who peruse this site, can enjoy what we have here....

My opinion of Fox has nothing at all to do with the fact that I believe piracy to be wrong. Nor does it have anything to do with the fact that as a mod here I try and make sure that this site stays within its legal boundaries.....

What the hell does our opinion of the suits have to do with any of this...lmao.

Bottomline, it is against the law.

If you partake in this, then good luck.........and if you are caught......well hopefully you can get on the internet and send us a line sometime.

Round and round we go, where this argument stops nobody knows:woot:

And you see the differences there? They are all things that are physical in nature, not digital.

And yes I care about those laws, but I don't care about copyright laws, especially when an act of violating it doesn't result in a loss of revenue like in the example I have cited.
But it does result in the loss of revenue.

You are obtaining a product [songs, movies, software etc] without compensation that is legally required to obtain those items. By you coming into possesion of thoose songs through illegal downloading, you cost the entitled persons their rightful revenue.

I don't understand how anyone could possibly think it's okay to steal like this.

They say they're getting back at the RIAA for being "greedy pigs" but I say the true greedy pigs are the ones stealing stuff they don't need to survive just because they're too cheap to spend 10-15 bucks.

It's true, the sense of entitlement in today's children is astounding.

So? What do these people care what is law or not in the States? When they make their sites migrate to other countries they couldn't care less what the FBI does or doesn't and personally I find it deplorable that industrial lobby groups have such huge influence over your law making body and the executive. I'm glad it isn't like this where I live. Besides all this is going to do is forcing filesharing to evolve into something that cannot be easily investigated. There are lots of things going into that direction.

Or so I've heard. :woot:

Not that I condone it of course. :ninja:

I find all of this very funny. Anyone on here that was born before the internet knows that this is nothing new. People have bought albums for years and made tapes of their favorite songs or copies for friends. And no one ever bytched and moaned back then. In fact record sales went up from fans doing that. You'd get a copied tape of the latest AC-DC album and love it so much you just run out and buy it. The same went for VHS movies. No one can tell me they never rented a movie and never copied it before. But yet movies still make hundreds of millions in sales. Who here hasn't made a friend a tape or CD or had one made for them? You are lieing if you say you haven't.

Say what you will but it is greed onthe studios part to complain over people who download one song from a album. The real crime is charging people anywhere from $10 - $20 for an CD with 18 songs and only have 2 from it be worth listening to. If they start putting out better qulity music then maybe people will want to buy the whole CD. And these same artists that ***** about this now are the same people that copied their friends music collection growing up. To me that is just the pot calling the kettle black.

If the record and film companies want to blame someone for all this then blame the internet for making it so easy to do now. Not that it wasn't easy before. But if you put the tools to do something in a persons hands, you can't expect them to not use them.

Another funny thing is Radiohead's new CD is a free download on their web site. I guess they are stealing now too. The record cpmany better put them in jail.

radiohead is a fully indpendent band, not under any type of contract to a label, they are free to do as they wish with their music..

you are aware of the fact that our goverment convinced the Swedish goverment to raid the Pirate Bay's offices back in 2005.....granted the Pirate Bay is up and running but in the spirit of international cooperation, the Swedish government is still openly investigating them....

I will not make a specific personal attack, but I would like to say, if you want to find totally clueless, dangerously stupid idiots on the Hype who apparently don't know how to think, come to this thread.

On a side note..................................................Ra.........................
*ahem*
........................Radiohead is,...........not...stealing their.....
*sigh*......own album.

They are a PERFECT example of what I'm saying!
If an artist creates something, and wants to charge you for enjoying it, it should be HIS decision.
If an artist creates something and DOESN'T want to charge you for enjoying it, AWESOME, if it was HIS decision, not yours.

You don't get to walk into a comic shop and tell the owner, "Mmmm....no, you're asking $75,000 for Superman one, but that's REALLY outrageous for one comic book! It is worth more like....uh....EIGHT DOLLARS, to ME. ;)" and then take Superman #1 out of the vault and leave.

Now, if the owner WANTS to give Superman #1 away fro $8.......AWESOME!
Whaddadeal!

You don't decide.
That is, unless you're a despicable f***ing ass**** amoral thief.
That's what a thief is, someone who takes possession of something against the will of it's owner.

You're f***ing brutish, marauding thieves, and you 1) don't have the balls to steal physically tangible things, 'cause you lack the skills as a thief to avoid getting caught, and 2) you lack the balls to even be honest with yourself and acknoweldge what you ARE, as a human being.

No one body could contain my revulsion.

Also, way back in thread, and I'm not going to look for it.......

To the guy that said you're not stealing if it's data that your taking...
AWESOME!
That means I could sneak into a government base, find the computer where all the sensitive government secrets are held, find all the codes for launching nuclear missiles, copy all that information to my laptop, and I'd ONLY be guilty of trespassing.

Great.
