To me you don't ever have to go full blown revenge fantasy for Frank Castle. I think he's a tragic character. And I think there's something sad about him that he can't let go of his pain and torment. I just don't think you can excuse the flaws and lesser qualities for the writings of this season that "oh they wouldn't go full blown." Because that's not what I think happened completely. With all those qualities in mind, there's a lot you can unpack for a show like this and explore.Whether you want to admit it or not, the notion that we're ever going to get the full blown 70s and 80s vigilante revenge fantasy of the comics in this series in today's sociopolitical climate is incredibly naive and it's not going to happen. How they reworked Frank's story is already a testament to that. Marvel/Netflix doesn't want the headache. The next season may pit him up against Jigsaw and the Gnuccis, but it's going to be just as slow burn as this season was.
I think there was just all these peripheral characters that were distracting the central storyline and they were badly written or felt really forced. You can't tell me that the Madani subplots and the Lewis Wilson subplot were all sharp and well written characters and they really were the best aspects of this show. Then you have Frank constantly asserting himself in the life of Micro's family, and his wife romantically pursuing Frank, a subplot that became very predictable mind you.
Also these shows are still works of fiction at the end of the day. They aren't reality.
