I read on the front page (thread??? is that what that **** is where people yell FIRST!!!! for some reason?) people complaining about too many white people, and goku is white...
i mean, to me, Goku could be any earth race really. he is an alien. a sayan. so it could be portrayed by any race on earth. to me, white is the best choice for goku, compared to the show. i mean its obvious in the show that Chi Chi is supposed to be more asian ( i say more asian because its not blatant, but is insinuated bc of her hair). now i know this is an iffy tight rope im walking on here... but whats the deal? what do you think about the race issue...should goku be asian? should the movie have more asians than whites?
IMO, i think they got the casting right on, race wise. bc goku could be any race, and these days 'white' is 'generic' so to speak.
i dont feel the casting is, in any way, a injustice, or a problem. but apparently other people think so....Im not hating on those people, just wanna know what the real deal/scoop is...
no, Goku is not white, he's Asian and when I say he's Asian I mean he's yellow. Superman is an alien too but he always appears white no question about it, so what's your argument for that? I've got one for Goku and I hate how people say he can be white or any race.
bluntly put: kryptonians and saiyans are both (superpowered) aliens that look like humans.
In a real world scenario, if we are to believe that kryptonians and saiyans would look nothing like any race of the humans on earth, then there's absolutely no way to fathom what their facial structure would look like other than knowing that they'd have two eyes, a nose made of cartilage, two ears, lips, and hair on their head. With this being said, here is my logic. When Superman was discovered by his foster parents in Kansas, that race of people (white Americans) were the first people to feast their eyes on this humanoid alien infant. Because of that, they are the first humans to interpret the Kryptonians' likeness to the humans and thus, that is why it is appropriate to cast a caucasian as Superman.
Goku on the other hand, was discovered by an elderly Asian man in his universe. It's quite clear that DBU's earth is different than ours, but it's also quite clear that there is a western world and an eastern world in it as well, made up of black, white, Asian, brown, and Native American peoples in made up versions of the real earth's countries. With that being said, elder Gohan was an Asian man and since he is the first human to be exposed to the alien humanoid race that is the saiyan, he is the first to interpret their likeness to humans, and thus, Goku should be seen as an Asian man.
Goku's alien genetic makeup at least has the phenotype very close to that of humans. Hair on the head, variations of brown skin tone, two arms, two legs, and their bodies appear just at the peak of human physical condition. That's the first thing, and second is, we have no alien actors in real life to portray these aliens, so we have to obviously use actors belonging to an earthly heritage.
