The 'race' issue...

^Now you're thinking like a true Hollywood executive.

If he had been cast black, this thread wouldn't last long, or else we'd all be percieved as racists. And ironically enough, NOT by most blacks probably. The racist accusations would be coming from politically-correct coffee shop and library dwelling snot nosed pompous female vagans.

Now that would be something. An all black version of Dragonball Z. I'm gonna think about that for the rest of the day...

That Corbin kid from HSM would be Goku. Morgan Freeman would be Master Roshi. Bulma would be Beyonce in blue hair. And if he could stand playing second fiddle, Will Smith would play Piccolo.

*Ahem* Enough of that guys...

How about this, how about of you get a spaceship and fly out into space and search for a Saiyan, or a Asian Saiyan and bring him back and have him audition for Vegeta.... oh wait....:whatever:

haha that afro goku looks hilarious.

In all seriousness tho, tryin to pin a specific race onto a cartoon is just silly. Until the creator of DB comes out and says my characters in DB are all asian and only asian theres really no reason to be debating this. I mean i could easily make the argument that Roshi looks like a friggin old white man, but hes asian in the movie, i can care less as long as his character is somewhat similar.

hmph. this thread...

they're racists, damnit!! they made Shenlong look more like a western dragon and not an eastern dragon... -?!
wait!!!!
That's not right. . .

I can't beleive Jesse McCartney will be playing him... he obviously looks asian... but back on topic Goku unlike Zuko doesn't have the stand out Asian feauture in which Zuko does, especially the eyes (not horribly slanted to his temples, but you can tell he's Asian)... I mean really, would anyone know Static Shock was black if he were Zuko's skin color and was draw with thin lips and a narrow nose... no, IMO I don't think just because an Asian artist, or an Asian theme surrounds it, the character should be automatically assumed to be genetically Asian

all in all I still think Goku should've been played by a mixed or moreso racially ambiguous actor so that he'd appear more alien

There are few asian supermen/captain marvel types out there.Even asian wonder women/powergirl types as well.
I POSTED SOME IN THE MARVEL'S RACE AND GENDER THREAD.
Marvel even has alot of asian AND ASIAN ORIGIN(NATIVE AMERICANS) gods and goddess too.
Check out the gods of marvel comics AT WIKI,COMICVINE AND WIKIPEDIA.

The Grandmaster and an individual called the Unknown challenged each other to the Game of Champions which was a tournament involving numerous heroes possessing superhuman powers. Collective Man was teleported to a giant arena while he was driving off a gang of thieves . Collective Man is one of the twelve members selected on the Unknown's team. The object of the contest is to battle members of the Grandmaster's team to gather the most pieces of the Golden Globe of Life which was separated into four pieces and hidden at the far corners of the Earth.

3-Peace
The Collective Man, Jade Dragon and Nuwa would form 3-Peace and fight for freedom against the Chinese Government. 3-Peace would join forces with the Mutant Liberation Front when they offered to help free the mutants that were being detained by the Chinese Government. 3-Peace and the MLF would come into conflict with China Force when they infiltrated a facility that was being used to search for mutants within the borders of China. Nuwa gets the information they needed from the tracking station after China Force is defeated and they find the Citizen's Rehabilitation Center outside of Shanghai which was actually a prison for mutants. This, very much this.

I read on the front page (thread??? is that what that **** is where people yell FIRST!!!! for some reason?) people complaining about too many white people, and goku is white...

i mean, to me, Goku could be any earth race really. he is an alien. a sayan. so it could be portrayed by any race on earth. to me, white is the best choice for goku, compared to the show. i mean its obvious in the show that Chi Chi is supposed to be more asian ( i say more asian because its not blatant, but is insinuated bc of her hair). now i know this is an iffy tight rope im walking on here... but whats the deal? what do you think about the race issue...should goku be asian? should the movie have more asians than whites?

IMO, i think they got the casting right on, race wise. bc goku could be any race, and these days 'white' is 'generic' so to speak.

i dont feel the casting is, in any way, a injustice, or a problem. but apparently other people think so....Im not hating on those people, just wanna know what the real deal/scoop is...

no, Goku is not white, he's Asian and when I say he's Asian I mean he's yellow. Superman is an alien too but he always appears white no question about it, so what's your argument for that? I've got one for Goku and I hate how people say he can be white or any race.

bluntly put: kryptonians and saiyans are both (superpowered) aliens that look like humans.

In a real world scenario, if we are to believe that kryptonians and saiyans would look nothing like any race of the humans on earth, then there's absolutely no way to fathom what their facial structure would look like other than knowing that they'd have two eyes, a nose made of cartilage, two ears, lips, and hair on their head. With this being said, here is my logic. When Superman was discovered by his foster parents in Kansas, that race of people (white Americans) were the first people to feast their eyes on this humanoid alien infant. Because of that, they are the first humans to interpret the Kryptonians' likeness to the humans and thus, that is why it is appropriate to cast a caucasian as Superman.

Goku on the other hand, was discovered by an elderly Asian man in his universe. It's quite clear that DBU's earth is different than ours, but it's also quite clear that there is a western world and an eastern world in it as well, made up of black, white, Asian, brown, and Native American peoples in made up versions of the real earth's countries. With that being said, elder Gohan was an Asian man and since he is the first human to be exposed to the alien humanoid race that is the saiyan, he is the first to interpret their likeness to humans, and thus, Goku should be seen as an Asian man.

Goku's alien genetic makeup at least has the phenotype very close to that of humans. Hair on the head, variations of brown skin tone, two arms, two legs, and their bodies appear just at the peak of human physical condition. That's the first thing, and second is, we have no alien actors in real life to portray these aliens, so we have to obviously use actors belonging to an earthly heritage.
