The Dark Knight The Realism Debate thread

And he does have to feed them...

Critics view a film from a neutral standpoint and take into account the things that matter in a film...like characters, story, as well as the technical aspects like cinematography, etc. Some critics certainly are asses, but many look at films in ways that your average moviegoer does not. Theirs should be a considered and valued opinion based on what you know about the critic and the film...but not the word of god.

To dismiss them entirely is foolish, and you'll find you'll miss out on a lot of good films, as well as waste your money on a lot of crappy ones.

Sorry but I know what I like and no some critic does not and yes almost everything they like I cannot stand and what they tend to hate I tend to love so yeh umm stereotype less as critics are just people FORTUNATE enough to get a job watching movies.
FYI as well most movie critics are pretty much rich people who are so out of touch with the average movie goer its not even funny.
So why would I trust the opinion of some guy who has never seen a hard day in his life? who has so little in common with me that I would probably associate with dogs better then them????

Thats why he has to take out Flass...........

Nolan's realism seems to be working just fine. It's not my favorite take on the character, but neither if Burton or Schumacher's. Nolan's take on Batman is acting as if it were completely real and so far the reception has been overwhelming. And we still have another 4 years to look forward to it. TDK in '08 and Batman 3 in 2011.

With useful adaptation while remaining faithful to the comics, I think several things could work in the 'gritty realism'. I want to see some of my favorite characters brought to life on the big screen, not characters in name only. I look through this thread and actually here people saying that Clayface would work perfectly in Nolan's world if he's just a man who wears a disguise. Seriously, what the hell people! That wouldn't be Clayface at all.

If Nolan were to bring him on screen, I'd really want him to do it the appropriate way. Then again, I highly doubt he would even get to do the character. It seems as if he's already got a lot lined up.

Batman 3: Two Face, Joker(minor), Maroni, Catwoman or Riddler(rumored).

I wonder what the next director's take will be after that. They may decide to keep on the realism route if it continuously proves successful.

There is MR. Engel

There is also MR. Earle

Seriously, people. His last name beginning with E means nothing.

Or should I be optimistic and think they're both The Riddler?

However the average movie goer is so out of touch with CINEMA that it's even less funny......

Only because CINEMA keeps making drivel only critics like :)

If you notice a trend in movies that made a lot of money this past summer you will note almost NONE of them were praised by critic's and the average movie goer ate them up.

Movies aren't attended as much as they use to be. People have taken up other crafts. The video game industry is now more profitable than the film industry.

Anyway, back to the topic. Someone think of another villain that may or may not work in the 'dark gritty realism'

Killer Croc could work. I believe Clayface (like BTAS style) can work and in a serious manner. Just save him for a 4th or so were Gotham is just full of freaks and wackjobs. I would like Poison Ivy to be done better than what Schumacher did to her.

Croc is ok, never been one of my favorites. If he were to be adapted, it would have to be more than just a guy with a scale disease. In the comics, he has a disease, but an impossible one that makes him complete green with bulletproof scales, a snout, a tail, and super strength. There are honestly several I would prefer over him to be in a 4th film, though. I'd love to see Ivy again as well. As long as she doesn't have fake orange weave.

Earle's back?

Nothing confirmed, but I'm convinced he still has a role to play in this story.

..and I'm not a fan of Catwoman. It's just hard for me to imagine her being interesting in Nolans world.

Earle's trying to get unemployment.

LOL!

As for Catwoman, I'd love to see her in another film. It's a must. And there's rumors of a Selina Kyle mention at the end. Almost like how we got a Joker mention at the end of Begins. I like what Nolan does there.

You know what would be the biggest slap in the face for him. Bruce is walking around town and decides he's hungry.

Bruce: You know what, I feel like Fallaffel for lunch.

He goes to the Fallaffel cart and it's Mr. Earl working it. :wow:

Earle messes up his Fallafel
BW: I said no onions
MW: You did?
BW: Yea, didn't you get......wait you guys have fries?
MW: Yea its on the menu. Didnt you get the menu?
BW: Just make it again Fallafel boy.

Flass: Where's the Falafel guy?
Earle:*looks at him with a dry bitter face* Didnt you get the memo fatass?

Don't we have enough people dressing up as animals?

Earle: Come on, I have child support to pay.

Catwoman is the good kind of dressing like an animal :D
