The Dark Knight The Realism Debate thread

First off I'm not writing this to express what I think they should do or throw some wild theory out there. Just something I thought I'd share and see what other people thought if it's possible. (I'm not real big on checking spelling and grammar so anyone that pokes fun of me for mispelled words..........yeah yeah yeah, I'm an idiot)

From a few possible spoilers I've read it seems that one of the "side themes" is Bruce trying to keep Batman's identity from being exposed. If you think about it this is something that really hasn't ever really been dug into so to speak. Nolan seems to want to have a realistic aproach to Batman and you have to admit if this was something to happen in the "real world" the media, government and just people in general would be in a frenzy to discover just who Batman really is. If you think about it even if someone could succesfully be "Batman" the chances of him keeping his identiy secret are pretty slim. Look how the world deals with something as trivial as a celebrity's relationship status. I just question how far Nolan will take his reality aproach and if it ties into what he wants the end result of his "story" to be. In questioning that I started to think about Nolan as a storyteller. He doesn't exactly tell movies with the fairytale ending. It's not entirely impossible that he would have the series end with Batman's failure or demise (in death or just unable to be batman anymore). Just wondering what people's opinions are in this. If they think Nolan would try to do that and if the WB would let him. The fact that they are having a different Batman in the JLA and that they let Singer go as far as giving Superman a kid that they'd give Nolan complete creative control.

Translator...? Translator, please!

You guys need to learn how to read.

It's not hard to understand.

my itty bitty brain cannot process this
PS since when did post count start equalling clout?

Here I am.

He's saying that in Nolan's realistic world, the media should be in a frenzy about Batman/his secret identity/etc (ala Paris Hilton's party habits).

Thing is, we already have numerous set reports of journalists and news reporters being filmed (Gotham TV, Gotham News.) Hell, AMH's character is a goddamn investigative reporter.

You'd think that would be enough for some people but NOOOO.

Hmm, I see now.

This thread was pointless.

I think he is more worried that this will happen; not that he wants it to happen.

He's worried that Nolan won't let Batman just be Batman in his films and that something tragic might happen; ie... Batman dieing or his idenity being found out.

nolan will not kill batman off, nor will he devote a single frame of film towards the exposing of batman's TRUE identity.. get with it, think realistically! :hyper:

what good would any of those two things do for the franchise?

having the suspense of batman's identity possibly being outed, sure, but he won't go all the way with it..

Fine, over-analyze my analysis of his post. :whatever:

Isn't this actually the point of the fake Batman in TDK? I mean... if you had 200 different Batmen caught and some others still running out loose... would you be able to figure out which one of the bunch was the real one?

well, if you've got 200 people running around in batman costumes, you've got 200 batmen. they're all real, and they're all batman. the question is, which one is the original batman?

Exactly. That's exactly the point of them being in the film IMO...

Nevermind. I was trying to parody a Burtonite. Too subtle, I guess. :cwink:

no, it was a good impression. i just wasn't sure if you were being zealously serious.. you know how those burton fans get when they get riled up.. :o

Oh, yeah, but nothing compared to the Nolanites who would probably accept a two year old with baby powder on his face, ketchup on his lips, and green crayon in his hair in the guise of "realism." I'm not a Burtonite, but the extremists on both sides are full of crap.

Parodied that as well. I'm an equal opportunity fighter.
