I was going to call this topic the reason behinf Venom's death - but I thought that was too spoiler-ish ;)

I, like most of you, love Venom and was disappointed to see him perish, but I'm reading some pretty crazy reactions here, namely:

Raimi hated Venom and the fans who like Venom so much he killed Venom out of spite.

 ??? I think if Raimi truely hated Venom he would've treated him like the way Schumacher treated Bane in Batman & Robin. In fact I saw a pretty loyal treatment of the character with several references to the source (the church bell scene, Eddie Brock's motivation).

Anyway I digress I think the reason Venom had to die was simple: Raimi had to wrap up the trilogy and resolve all the storylines

If Eddie Brock had lived he woul've been an unresolved loose end. Think about it - if your trying to wrap up a trilogy you can't exactly have an obsessed maniac who knows your identity still in the picture. Yes I too would love to see Venom return but lets face it - if Sony want to do it they'll contrive a plot device to bring him back.

But within the context of these films, killing Venom is the unfortunate but logical conclusion.

sandman would have a pretty good idea of who he is (killed his uncle, seen his face), and he just floated off into the wind

i just saw the movie, the final battle kicked ass, but killing venom and green goblin? ruined the whole movie

and wtf is with the hair down over his eyes?

i agree they had to kill him, but if u think about it brock became Venom for only one or two days and then died i dont think that the rigth way to treat one of the best villians, and with harry i was very angry for what happen to him, i personally think that he was the best villian in the whole movie because sandman was just a big sandstorm, venom only fights spidey one time.

Green Goblin's death was perfect and necessary.

I agree, Venom did have to die. I was sad to him go and do hope they bring him back in some future instalment.

necessary.

Yup, Harry's demise was necessary as it properly closed his chapter in the Spidey movieverse. But hey, you called him Green Goblin, was he called by that name in SM3?

Nope...just Goblin Jr. :oldrazz:

Brock's death is one of the highlights of this movie. It was just so final. And, that's why I loved it, because Brock was one of the weaker elements of this movie.

He had very little dimension, and the whole "I like being bad, it makes me happy" attitude just didn't work for me. I don't find characters like that interesting. There was just nothing about him that made him seem real or interesting, IMO.

Good riddance to him.

I was pissed there was not final swing. If its the last films like all of you people are saying don't you think there should have been a final swing?

I too missed the final swing, but think about the context of the ending. It was right after Peter's best friend dies, and a somber reuniting with MJ. Having a final swing would somewhat disrupt the mood of the ending. I do think there may have been a good way of incorporating the final swing but I can't imagine how it would work without a voiceover leading to it.

I was very happy there was no final swing. I think it really would have spoilt the sombre ending.

I felt kind of cheated though. There had better be a good final swing in Spider-Man 4.

Too cartoonish. Two Face had a better death.

i feel that he may not be dead thanks to the ign article and no corpse and what not it can be explained if he returns why that one bomb didnt kill him.

i enver thought that the final swing meant something happy. the ending ofthe first movie was nto happy. or was it?

looked to me like he was venom just some hours.

and thats dumb writiing. when did gwen and peter go to the club? i guess late. then you have the events at teh club. hten the church,MJ in the taxi,.....
there was to much stuff happening in one night. and then a lot of people and kids on the street at lets say 4 in the morning.

Raimi had to end this as a trilogy because the contracts are fulfilled now and Sony is back at square one with the franchise. It's doubtful that they would pay Raimi and the cast a gigantic load of money to return for another one or even a new trilogy. The movie(s) would cost at least $500 million. That's why Arad pushed for Venom. He negotiated with Sony and they came to the conclusion to end it with a bang.
It turned out to be a bad decision but it's nothing new in Hollywood. Remember X3? Same situation. Singer wouldn't have done any better than Ratner with the FOX execs all over him. One more reason why Marvel should do anything to get their rights back!

Let's hope Nolan has more luck with the WB wackos.

Why are so many people saying this is the end when sony has said there will be more films?

What a waste of a character... cmon you guys telling me you can't drag a Venom saga over two films??? It HAD to be a setup.... but they rushed it... what happened happened I understand... but to say that there is little potential for an A villain like Brock for at least 1 1/2- 2 films (instead of 1/3) is a joke... this to me is NO DIFFERENT than what happened to the Pheonix in X3... so why aren't people more pissed? If your not a fan of the character fine... but so much potential wasted and thats the fact

The ending was a disappointment. Brock could have went to jail fading to the little bit of symboite in Conner's lab!

I actually liked both Eddie and Venom in this movie; true, his presence was short-lived, but he added a whole new dynamic to the pre-existing story from the first two films.

His death was disappointing, though, most because I recall there being something in one of the comics where Eddie puts aside his selfishness to join Peter as a temporary ally. In the film, Brock is killed not by the hero, or another villain, but by his own greed and desperation. Kinda sad to see him go; I'd have loved to have seen a major fight with just him and Peter.

As for the black suit, I thought it could shift its appearance. Why would Peter need to wear street clothes over it? It might have been a VFX issue, but I was just curious.
