If they ever do another remake, it will most likely be another third person shooter like everything since RE4.

And that honestly wouldn't be bad at all. Revelations is being called the best RE since RE2. And that plays just like RE4&5.

It's not what I would prefer, but I didn't say it would be bad.

Yea if they were to remake it, I'd like it to be done in the same way the GameCube remake was.

Lost in Nightmares has a good amount of puzzles, and camera view switching between 3rd person and fixed camera in a nice manner
I'd love to see that happen again

Oh yea, i love the over the should view, i think that can be just as creepy as the old fixed camera, but if they were to REmake the second game, id like them to keep it as close to the orig as possible. Sure they could add some stuff the way the first REmake did, but id like it to largely remain the same.

I think the 3rd person view would be even more creepy. Because honestly, it's really as if you're following someone and watching over their shoulder. You're closer to what's happening, than with a fixed camera angle.

There was that one moment in the Lost Nightmare section, where I was slowly walking up stairs, keeping an eye on my surroundings in case I got ambushed. Then, just before I reached the top.... WHAM!! A big anchor, right in from of my feet. o_o I was like "Dude! Run! Ruuun!!!" to my friend. And we both hauled ass and tried to get in the open to take him out.

I hate the fixed camera and controls of the old RE games. They were too held back by the technology of the time. I thought RE4 had a great horror atmosphere but was so much more enjoyable to play because of solid controls.

Judging by the RE6 footage, the parts with Leon looked really good but the parts with Chris looked way too action-heavy, moreso than RE5.

Nah. I think the fixed camera perspective above all else was paramount to the creepy atmosphere in those early games. It gave off a very voyeuristic vibe.

Well, they could always give you the option to choose between the two. Just like in the Lost Nightmare section.

I thought the controls in RE4/5 were more "tank" than RE of old.

Options aren't necessary, they should just pick one and go with it, and I know which direction they would choose. Which I'm fine with, by the way. I like both styles. But the old Resident Evils were essentially adventure games, and I don't expect Capcom to make an adventure game when shooters sell so much better.

Yea i kind of know what ya mean. I think that was largely due to the fact that the enemies you were facing were a lot faster. You had to make movements a lot quicker than you ever had to in the old games. Im playing through both REmake and RE4 at the moment and i deff prefer the setup of REmake. But the REmake is just the best game in the series by a country mile, so maybe thats why i prefer that setup.

Too bad I already have RE5.

Talked to a friend of mine who runs two EB games. He says RE is pretty much set in stone for 11/20. Says its not a placeholder date (they are often changed. ME3 Had a place holder date befire) so we should be getting it on the 20th.

Having worked at GS before I can say that games that have a Street Date in the system don't often get pushed back.

Can happen... But not often.

It's hard to compare because RE5 was more of an action game than horror. I think the over-the-shoulder works so much better. It allows you to use a superior control set-up and gives you a closer view of the environment.

We must have been playing different games. The old tank controls were, to put it bluntly, awful. Using the left/right on the analog stick and forward/back to move your character are terrible. The only reason they did that was because the original PS1 controller didn't have analog sticks. I'd rather have moved my characters with the face buttons than that set-up.

The only games are almost unplayable for me bc of the controls. They are much improved with the newer titles. The old games dont even compare in that regard

Well, yeah. Over the shoulder works better for Resident Evil 4 and 5 because they were designed that way, and they achieve what they set out to do very well. Fixed camera was probably never even on the table during the development of those games.

I'm not saying fixed camera is inherently better than a traditional third person perspective, but if they were to do a remake of RE2 I would want them to stick to the original gameplay formula as much as possible, while modernizing some things à la REmake. They can't apply shooter controls to RE2 without completely changing the game. You add shooter controls, you need more enemies. You have more enemies, you need more ammo, herbs, etc. You would need more of everything, and then the "survival" aspect of that game would be destroyed, and along with it, the "horror". You wouldn't have that feeling of isolation and dread, the creepy atmosphere, all of it would be gone. It wouldn't be a remake, it would be an entirely different game. And whatever, some people want that, but it's not a game I would want to play.

Lost Nightmare had a pretty limited ammo supply. Then there was even the time you had no weapons at all and had to rely on environmental traps to defeat the enemy. I don't think they would have to make too many changes. Just make the Zombies more dangerous. Like adding slightly faster ones and jumpers like in the RE6 trailer. Heck, add the crimson heads from the REmake. You could have the new shooter controls and yet still a limited amount of bullets.

Losing weapons made things even more annoying against Wesker, I could hardly touch the guy, and bullets only faze him when they contact

The point I was trying to make was that the older RE games had a much better horror atmosphere regardless of the controls or camera. I think if you made it over-the-shoulder 3rd person and made RE4/5 control like the old RE games and have a fixed camera, their respective atmospheres would stay the same.

I think the series is much, much more playable and therefore enjoyable with the setup of RE4. You can still do that without having it become too much of a shooter. If you want to play the original way, you still have the ports. For once let's see a real, legitimate remake of a game instead of just having them slap on some HD textures.

I couldn't get past the controls to play much of it. Just seemed like more of an enhanced port which is what most remakes really are these days.

No, the REmake had entirely new assets, gameplay, level design, puzzles, locations, etc. It was completely remade from the ground up.

Having said that, I'm fine with HD updates. In fact, I love them. I see it as th video game equivalent of putting older films on Blu-ray.

I'm playing Resident Evil 4, and I totally forgot how ****ing annoying Ashley is.

HeeeeEEEeeelp! Leon! HAAAAAAAAAALP!!!
