The Resident Evil Thread - Part 2

Damn, i guess i need to go back and play this again. I mean i pretty much hated it when i played it on the PS3, maybe its because thats not my preferred console for anything shooting based.

I mean if i can enjoy the hell out of Operation Raccoon City, i gotta be able to enjoy this.

Trying Leon's part out right now. Was focused on Chris' part before. Back to my darkness complaint. There are so many effin' light sources in Leon's campaign, I maxed out the game's brightness settings, I increased the brightness on my TV and yet it's still pitch black, wherever there's a shadow, even when a freaking lamp is nearby.

I have a tiny lamp on right now and it brightens up my room enough so I can still make out every object. At the beginning of the campaign, when Leon talks, the entire background is pitch black. I guess I can make out the bookshelf in the background if I look real hard. This so needs to be improved. I don't mind it being dark in a horror game, but right now there could be Nemesis hiding in the corner of a room and I wouldn't be able to see him.

I didnt notice that at all when i first went through it. Ill double check next time i play the demo, but the lighting deff wasnt one of my bigger complaints. Overall though i just felt the game looked poor.

I don't know what they did. Right now, I'm standing in one side of a room, looking at the opposite wall and it's dark. as. ****. But when I approach the wall, suddenly it all brightens up and I can see everything clearly. I go back a few steps, the wall goes back to being dark again. WTF?

*edit*

Alright, now it's the other way around. I'm standing in a corridor, I can see everything clearly, then when I approach the steps, everything turns dark, like the light gets swallowed up by some dark force.

After playing all three "missions" I think this game can wait. I'll pick up the Gold Edition in a few months... I'll put the money I had down on this toward ZombiU. It's decent...but it just feels... Odd.

I guess it was obvious, but this game fails as a Resident Evil game. If a certified ***** like me can play Leon's section and charge into a group of Zombies, kicking and punching, rather than carefully picking them off one by one, with carefully placed head shots, you know something is wrong. Might be still a fun game, just like RE5 was when playing with a friend, but I'll definitely wait for the Gold Edition.

Also, is there such a thing as too responsive? Because I think these controls definitely are. I guess RE5 controls felt more sturdy, or whatever. Here I feel like I'm flying through the levels.

Yeah at the start of the Leon part I was trying to be methodical and take my head shots slowly but as it rolled on I was just flailing and meleeing everything that came up to me with very little problem.

Wow, now I'm scared to try the demo. So who has the best campaign at the moment? Do the playable characters play different? Enemy Ai?

Best thing about the RE6 demo: Running up to someone as Piers and quick-shotting them with the sniper rifle. SO satisfying!

Worst thing about the RE6 demo: The game doesn't say "RESIDENT....EVILLL....SIXXX" when you press start on the main menu.

Doesn't?
Damn, this is just so incomplete.

Agreed, but RE stopped with the horror when 5 hit.

I agree about the controls as well.

I haven't played a RE game since 2, and even then I was like 8 at the time so my memory of how it actually played isn't very accurate, but this demo definitely did feel different from what I remembered. Although the Leon section did give me flashbacks of how much I hated those first two games because I just don't like zombies or the horror genre in general.

Why on earth would you play Resident Evil?
I've always heard so much hype about the most recent games, mainly RE4, and I wanted to check it out. Especially since I wanted to see how it evolved in terms of gameplay and style.

Ah, I see. Yeah, they're very different now than in the 5th gen.

The camera being up the characters ass is really my only complaint. Other than that it felt like RE.

Maybe it's just the demo
Does it at least read "RESIDENT....EVIL" or sticks to silence?

This game controls so much better on the PS3 than on the 360 in my opinion. Now that I'm finally getting the hang of the controls, it's much more fun :D

I never had an issue with the controls, or the camera really..To be honest.

Played Jake's section. Good lord... Honestly, am I the only one who suffers from this extreme darkness problem? This time I even had to max out my TV settings to see something. Everything turned into a bright, grey, mess, but at least I could make out the monsters running in the shadows.

loved the demo. my second time playing all three missions I got used to the controls and was fun. Leon's can get scary but its easy since we're playing an early part of his campaign.

Im pretty sure itll get better later. only reason older games scared me was because of the tank controls which made me feel vulnerable. Id take fun over scary anytime.

day one purchase for me.

Maybe it's your TV? I've played through each section at least a couple of times and I've never had that problem.

I never had that problem with any other game before though. Not even with RE5 or ORC. And as I mentioned in one of my previous posts, the shadows are all whack. Like when I approach a wall, the shadows start to disappear and if I only walk a few steps back, it's going dark again. And nothing in the room changed, the light sources are still the same. Or like I can see the end of the other room, but as soon as I approach the stairs, suddenly everything gets drowned in shadows.
