Capcom The Resident Evil Thread

I wish they would make two types of Resident Evil games. Games for people who enjoy shooters and games for those of us that enjoy the classics. I'm fine with updating things but when you toss out everything that made a series what it was, why should I care? I mean even Silent Hill was turned into a mindless shooter. Lol That's just sad.

I feel like they've already been doing this. Its what the Revelations series has been

I loved the plot for 6 but hated the villains. They had no panache or real good over the top material.

RE6 sold 6 million and a lot of those people didn't seem to care for it. I'm thinking that will effect the sales of RE7. But yes it was a short term success and yet Capcom were disappointed in it's sales for some reason.

Well, actually, it wasn't short-term. The game's sales started slowly, but actually increased to that amount over time:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resident_Evil_6#Sales

The hate that it gets is very akin to COD. Hated on web forums and the like, but overall, I think the general audience, the "silent majority" if you will, enjoy it. I personally don't think you get those kind of numbers if nobody is enjoying something.

The disappointment Capcom had with it was basically a symptom of COD chasing last gen. They had projected sales that just weren't very likely (or probably possibly), which made their stocks take a hit and they probably over budgeted overall as well. A lot of companies fell into that last gen, Square Enix, for instance, called the Tomb Raider reboot a disappointment as well despite the fact that it sold 1 million copies in 2 days, and 3.5 million within a month due to ridiculous projections of what they expected the game to sell.

You're right, we'll see when RE7 comes out, but I honestly don't think it'll matter much. I don't know if it's reach that level, but REMake HD sold over 1 million copies within a month, and Revelations 2 sold over 2 million in the same time frame. If a HD remaster and a low-budget episodic release can pull those numbers, I feel like the name isn't all that tarnished.

I remember people getting sick of the RE style and I don't think that it was wrong to change it up, I just wish they wouldn't have gone further than what 4 did.

That's...fair. I can actually probably agree with this. As much as I love RE4, there probably could have been more of a middle ground found somewhere that could make the series viable. Revelations 2 is probably a good example of where that might be, too. It's not quite there, but it seemed to be a genuine effort to combine the two styles in some way.

The overspending on games reminds me of the film industry right now.

I haven't played Revelations 2 yet but I am digging the first one so far.

Revelations 2 is honestly probably my favorite RE since 4. If you like the first one, I think you'll enjoy the second one as well. Plus, the return of Barry Burton and Claire Redfield in one game

well Capcom definitely wasnt overspending when it came to the Revelation games...lol

As to RE7? I really doubt that reaction to RE6 will affect its sales. Maybe had it been released 2 years after but it will be at least 4-5 by the time we see it. The fact that Capcom has gone dormant on it makes me think they are actually reevaluating how to handle it and are taking in criticisms. Gamers can be loud and vocal but also move on with time.

I saw that Mr. Jill Sandwich and my favorite RE heroine Claire were back and I was pretty excited. I'm totally going to get to it.

RE3 is my favorite of the franchise, but it was at the end of the day a side story of sorts. The only notable story element was the nuking of Raccoon City. It was more like RE2.5

I liked it too, but it did feel like a side story. Aside from Raccoon City exploding, which could've been done by the end of RE2, it didn't feel as relevant and like a step ahead in the story as CV.
If it stars one of the main franchise characters, it doesn't count as a side game.
It's nice to see what Jill was doing while Chris was away, and I'd love to see the return of Carlos.

Resident Evil 3 is underrated. Nemesis is such a great ****ing monster. He's like what would happen if a cenobite joined the military and liberally borrowed Chris Roid-feld's steroids.
Never seen Hellraiser, had to google it to see what is a cenobite, and I really like this description.

I don't know, I feel like RE3 is generally well-liked for the most part. It seems people who outright dislike it are in the minority. I mean, I think it's a half-baked turd of a game myself, but I am usually met with people who disagree and like the game.
Compared to RE2, RE4, and REmake, RE3 is pretty underrated.
Fluid controls, easier movements on stairs as ISS mentioned, quick turn, auto-aim for either the monsters or the objects you can shoot with your gun.
What initially bothered me about it is the change of zombies designs and voices, and the lack of animation during the "YOU DIED" screen that we see in RE2.
The infamous water puzzle was pushing it a little.

I have to say I am enjoying Zero more than I thought I would so far. After hearing some of the criticisms I thought I wouldn't enjoy it that much. Whether it's because the first two I am playing it is the remake I don't know. But I have actually enjoyed it more than I expected so far.

It's a challenging game as well which I like.

Resident Evil 3 felt recycled. I don't even remember much from it aside Mr. X, I mean, Nemesis, Jill and nuclear explosion in the end. I didn't dislike it, but it didn't impress me either.

Speaking of those two, this mod gave Nemy the moves of Mr. X.

Well, I mean, yeah, because those are all better. Unless you mean to say 3 is in the same league as them, which I'll just agree to disagree on.

Wait, was auto-aim not in RE2? I thought it was, I'm actually thinking it was in the first game, too, but it's been so long since I played that I couldn't remember for sure

I think RE3 is almost as good as RE2, what they did better they really did better.
Can't really comment on REmake, I need a better PC for that one.

Whenever I play it on PS3 I still have to rotate the player to aim the gun toward a monster, or Leon, Claire, and Ada simply point forward without rotating one degree.

Zero has it's flaws and it's not my favorite RE but I like it. The graphics are great and playing as two characters and being able to drop items at least changes up the regular RE formula.

I am so happy to see more people are discovering the brilliant remake and the pretty solid RE0.

I'll be honest I bought the bundle for the remake of RE1 which I played on the PS way back when. But I though I would play Zero first seeing as it's a prequel and I never played it. A good few said it wasn't very good but I am enjoying it quite a lot actually.

Yeah a lot of people don't like 0 and I get why but I liked it well enough.

I'll admit that I'm probably an easy lay when it comes to old school RE games, I'm not blind to the flaws though.

I like differences from classic RE1 and 2, but there are plenty of simple latitudes as well. I don't get the hate personally.

A lot of the issues wit Zero comes from the inventory system. The game, like most older RE titles, are built heavily around backtracking to begin with, and having to continuously drop your weapons makes it even more so, especially on your first play through when you don't know when you'll need something. In general, I just don't think it's as tightly designed as a lot of the other older titles. REMake, for example, really rewards you for playing more. Once you know the areas you can zip right through the game, even avoiding enemies all together, knowing all kinds of little shortcus and whatnot. Zero really lacks that, for the most part.

But I agree, it's not a bad game. I think, looking back, they should have just put item boxes in it and let the co-op stuff mainly be about puzzles or defeating bosses. I enjoyed it then, and I enjoyed revisiting it with the remaster. But I would still put it in the lower tier of the main games, if you're to consider it a main game and all.

On one hand, I thought RE0's inventory system worked to make the game feel more realistic and thus harder as a survival horror, but on the other hand it was a total pain.

I said it felt like a side story not a side game. And it is. RE3 even begins prior to the events of RE2, while CV advances the story in a meaningful way.

Sorry, just thought side story and side game go side by side.

I haven't found it that much of a pain, it adds to the challenge of the game for me and as you say, makes it more realistic.

I find there's a fine line often between challenging and frustrating, and Zero's inventory system/buddy system really walk that line for me. If the game wasn't already designed around backtracking, it would probably not be as bad, but since it is, it basically just double downs on your backtracking.

And I'm not super concerned with realism in my game about zombie monkeys and giant Leech men ;)

Revelations has Chris and Jill, and Revelations 2 has Claire and Barry. I don't think most would consider them more than side stories really.

I may change my mind on Zero's inventory/ buddy system once I start REmake but I don't find it such a problem. I know what you mean about realism but I just think the system Zero has brings it home more as if you yourself were in the situation you wouldn't be able to carry all sorts and would have to leave certain items and come back to them.
