she seems too dark or gritty for babs , now that i think about it, barbara is bright and cheerful

she could play "bright and cheery"...i personally always found babs to be quite sarcastic and to have a very dry sence of humor.

Ok, while I have seen some pretty good candidates for Nightwing here, I feel that the bulk of the actors reccomended for Dick Greyson/Robin are simply too old, especially considering that filming for this won't likely commence for another couple of years anyway. I feel that a younger actor, in particular Leo Howard would be an ideal choice.

Consider:

Leo is turning 11 this year which will make him 13-14 when it's time to start filming.
Leo is an accomplished Martial Artist and Acrobat (he is portraying a younger version of Snake Eyes in this year's GI Joe movie), he trains and performs with Matt Mullin's Sideswipe demonstration team in an assortment of Martial Arts and related activities including Freerunning/Parkour.

Pretty much a Ready-made Robin!

But you see, this is my point, this pic is almost two years old, and any filming is at least that far in the future so while all of the 20-something actors reccomended here will have aged out of the plausible Dick/Robin (.vs the Dick/Nightwing), Leo will be aging into the role, as to the "look" remember that as he moves into his teens his look will also mature, and since he is living the "Robin" lifestyle (ok sort of..) his body will be that of an acrobat, rather than the frat-boy look of the others.

i said something similar to this a while back...the age thing is something that really needs to be considered...

agreed on all points, although matt long is 27 which would put him in his 30's whenever robin finally was introduced...i think that might be pushing the limit on his age. if robin was being cast right this very moment i would say sign him up immediatly, but 6,7,& 8 yrs from now i think his time to be robin will be passed.

Kodi smit-McPhee as tim drake (batman begins 5 in 2016(?) he would be 20-ish)

liliana mumy or morgan york as stephanie brown (both are from cheaper by the dozen if you dont recognize the name. assuming they wait until batman begins 7 or even 8 to introduce spoiler/robin4 i would venture a quess that we wont see this character on screen...but even so, these two young ladies are both just slightly younger than smit-mcphee. which would be important considering the relationship between tim and steph in the comics.)

Call me crazy, but I'm thinking of Barbara Gordon being played by Dakota Fanning. Before you go nuts....

-She's fourteen now, which gives her roughly until age sixteen before they start shooting with her on the third movie (i think #3, if ever, is the best place to introduce a sidekick)

-She's been acting longer than most 14 year olds, and she's pretty good from what i've seen. she could handle working with tom cruise, so i think she'll be okay with nolan/bale. unlike many of the other suggestions on this post, this girl can act.

-Finally, just look at her face!

Now I know what a lot of you are thinking. "She's way too young to play barbara gordon, are you ******ed?"

My answer is this: Jim Gordon is already a well established character in this incarnation (gary oldman rocks!), and introducing his daughter would be a perfect lead-in for the batgirl character. But the twenty-something sidekick thing has been butchered under joel shumacher's ridiculous vision. so i suggest the notion of making her much younger - dick grayson young - and I'd make her serve the same purpose that robin would in terms of developing bruce's character.
as someone posted earlier, a teenager fighting crime doesn't make a lot of sense. this is true. however, a teenager with a police lieutenant for a father and gotham city for a playground is bound to turn out pretty badass. not to mention batman will supply her with all the batarangs she needs....

I doubt nolan will see it this way, but I think it would be a cool way to do the batgirl character. I'll probably write a fanfic based on this just to satisfy my own imagination

and dude, cmon, your comparing an 14 yr old girl to a picture of a 20-30 yr old batgirl(and hse isnt too cute either)

and it hasnt been butchered, that wss just joels vision of the character, if you want to say he butchered her character, you can say the same for two-face, or batman, yet these characters are still in the movie...

Must admit i've never totaly liked Barbs as batgirl but do like oracle,but I do think robin adds an interesting element to batman if done right I would love to see robin in the films only thing is if he is done right,firstly bring him in any older than 11 and you defeat the point of the character,I think they should bring in an unknown child actor about 11 and let him grow into the role(like harry potter)bring in the character the same as the comics but have at least 2 or 3 films without him being robin and seeing bruce train him as a detective and in combat training he could take on an oracle role piecing together evidence for bruce untill he is old enough to become robin,when he is about 16 or 17

by the time people will even actually accept robin or batgirl in a batman movie, christian bale will be like in his 50's. lol.

i think we're going to have to wait it out until the dark lone batman fades out. we have to wait for the heroic batman that we have in today's comics where he has many allies. it looks like the movies are focusing on his early dark dark days as batman where he has no friends.
