I expected that before the early feed, and yeah, that expectation continued after the positive buzz preceding the embargo left.
Didn't you enjoy the first Amazing Spider-Man movie? I'm curious as to when the joy factor dropped to you, and how quick.

I was in denial for a while and defended TASM tirelessly for at least a year.

I wanted a non-Raimi movie to define and embody "my" Spider-man so badly.

When TASM2 dropped, a switch went off in my brain that said "ok, I can't do it anymore" and TASM fell out of all my top CBM rankings.

I was so deflated from the experience that I stopped following Spider-man movies or following the SM forums.

But if I and family love this version of Spider-man it will be something I can cross off my bucket list.

Finally my ideal SM movie on the big screen. And seeing it through my kids' eyes makes it all worthwhile.

It's been a long, wild rollercoaster ride to this point. :woot:

I won't try to pounce critical opinions or whatever, but the forbes reviews reads like Mendelson is upset that the film is for everyone, lol.

Anyone remember how Doctor Strange went for a long time with like no rotten reviews? xD

Doctor Strange had at least 2 rotten reviews off its first 30 or so. It was never at 100% anyway.

I don't remember it like that. I could have sworn it went quite awhile before hitting a rotten. Meh

Anything 80+ is great, anything 90+ is phenomenal. 80+ seems like a lock. It's a win folks.

81%, same as Ant-Man.

Ant-Man had a really impressive climb to 80+ after relatively mixed early reviews, so I wont try to compare it's early stages to Spider-Man's. But GOTG2 also finished with 81 % and after 42 reviews it had six rotten. That would mean that Spidey is currently faring slightly better than that.

No, it is pretty much what they implied.

So suggesting a movie got a better reception due to novelty is sexist?

I could've said the same thing about dozens of movies with no female protagonist.

GOTG2 also got a head start with foreign reviewers, who historically speaking have not been as harsh as American ones.

Mendelson didn't like it. Oh well... (
I just sort of expect a negative or barely lukewarm review any time a superhero film comes out. With how he gives out his ratings and which ones get them, he's definitely a film snob.

Looking at the reviews so far, most are from American critics so it's good that it's starting out so positively.

After TASM 2 I think I made only one Hype post after I'd seen it saying I was disappointed and that was it. Was over that whole universe just like that (and I'd liked both Garfield and Stone). I haven't even seen that film again at all. One of my worst experiences in a cinema for a CBM.

Which is weird because he looooooves to write articles about superhero movies and their box offices. Gotta get those clicks.

I use him as an indicator of how unique or refreshing a film is. If he gives a movie 5-6 it usually means it's either clumsily-made interesting film or "been there done that". At least that's how I take his reviews.

How crowded is this pic gonna be?

Unless Matt Reeves saves Batfleck from the abyss.

Yeah but on the bright side we had Winter Soldier, Days of Future Past and Guardians of the Galaxy that year.

and we have Homecoming in a week. :mnm:
