The Runaways Thread

I've thankfully been able to avoid him for the most part. This is the first time since Peter Parker: Spider-Man that he's drawing something I actually want to read. :(

Urgh, Marvel needs to stop hiring that bastard.

I don't even remember the last issue. At all. It has been like what...three years?

I doubt Molly's going anywhere, seeing as how she's been included in the promo shots for Moore and Ramos' upcoming run. That seems to be a running theme in Whedon's work for Marvel: blown endings.

It's just a logical extension of his other theme: delays so long they make even avid fans of the material lose interest.

Even though I... dislike Molly, I will give Vol 3 of Runaways a chance. I however will stick to not reading the last of Whedon's run. Also, I still miss Gert.

I'll read Whedon's last issue. I read every other issue, plus I want to see the resolution between Vic and that awesome redhead who I wish would return to the present with the Runaways but I know ultimately won't.

I'll also try out the next volume for a couple issues, at least. Enough to get a feel for Moore's writing and whether or not it's enough to make me stomach Ramos' art.

I don't know if I can tolerate another dose of it!

I'll stick with it, I love Moore's work. Echo is very promising. Besides I care more about writing and storytelling than art in comics. I view great artwork more as a bonus than a necessity. However, I must concede I find Ramos very limited in the tone of the work he can deal with well. He was all wrong for Wolverine Civil War. I hated how he drew Colossus in Messiah CompleX. He should stick to stuff like Marvel Mangaverse. He's just about the only artist I know of who could actually put me off buying something I otherwise like.
I'd love if Moore was drawing as well, even if it was in Black and White, but on top of Echo and Spidey loves MJ I can see how it's too much of a workload. Hopefully Moore willoutlast Ramos on this title. Now that the movie's been greenlit it's not going to get cancelled, even if sales are rather poor.

I plan to finish out Whedon's run (it has taken over a full year to tell a 6 issue story), and to read the SI mini with YA, but I doubt I will give the Moore/Ramos relaunch a shot. I just can't stomach Ramos' art. Poor art can kill a good story and make a mediocre or bad one even worse to me.

Definitely picking up Whedon's last issue, and the SI stuff, but I'm not sold on the new creative team. I can't believe I just typed that, after all this is Runaways, which used to be one of my favorite books.

I don't know, I don't even hate Ramos like most of you, I'm just losing interest and every dollar counts these days. Curse you gas prices.

Terrific characters, I just wish Marvel would use them better. High hopes for the film though.

At the very least, Marvel is pushing for a film version with Vaughan involved with writing the script and production. If this actually falls through and it a success, it will be the first time in ages that Marvel has taken a new franchise and created a mega-hit out of it. I mean, most of their other movies and shows are involving characters created during the beginning, middle, or end of the Silver Age are are at least 20-30 years old. RUNAWAYS were created in 2002 (I believe).

The whole concept is such an amazing creation, it hurts to see Marvel not utilizing them to their full potential.

"All young people believe their parents are evil ... but what if they really are?" <---timeless idea, remember how cool this book use to be?:csad:

Sure do. Vaughan only left a year or so ago.

To be fair, Whedon's run isn't THAT terrible. The pace is faster than his AXM issues and he provides a story that offers some of the main punches. The problem is that it is cluttered to death, generic in spots, and naturally, severely delayed.

I'm excited about the new book... hopefully it wont be as bad as whedons run.. i get tired of his love for the what? 1920's ? or whatever decade there in. and its too slow... i love whedon to death, but this might be my least favorite writting he's done. I've very glad runaways are returning to there california roots. and i can actually stomach Ramos's art, depending on who he's drawing. hated him on spider-man, but didn't mind him on x-men.

I miss Vaughn and Alphona on this book.

Hell, I miss this book. I can't believe Joss got to write an arc. With his track record, the the low sales on the book, you'd think Marvel would have wanted someone who can keep to a monthly deadline, so the fans the book had didn't loose interest.

Apparently Whedon's schtick is to try to take a generic idea and try to execute it well. And maybe this works on TV where lateness is not tolerated, but in comics, where he has allowed 4 months and longer to fall between installments, it sucks all momentum out of the work.

And seriously, when was the last time you tuned into a new episode of HEROES or GREY'S ANATOMY and then the screen said, "Sorry, there is no new episode because the crew is awfully busy. Suck it up and come back later". But we get this all the time from comics, especially from writers who see it as a part time job to Hollywood work. And I am waiting for the day the industry stands up to being used like this.

Some franchises just don't work without the creators behind it. That's basically been the story I have heard about HOWARD THE DUCK; without Gerber, it's just crap.

creators do give it a special heart to the story, it's just a magic they have since it is there creation. But i do believe people can take the realms and still make the book good... it's just a matter of finding who. Whedon's lateness with AXM i could tolerate.. but this is just ridiculous imo

Joss Whedon is a ****ty writer. He has a good grasp of what people (should) sound like, but that's about it.

I think he writes good characters. Granted, he then goes on to just kill a bunch of them off for no other reason than to make other characters miserable with such shocking regularity that it's become monotonous now.

I just remembered the solicitation of the restart and had a bad thought: Is Ramos going to be doing all the covers as well for as long as he's on the series? If so, I'm going to be even more pissed! I want my gorgeous Jo Chen covers DAMMIT! :cmad::cmad::cmad:
