Days of Future Past The Sentinels

I definitely agree with those that think the idea of these Sentinels is to present a non threatening face of justice to protect humans from Mutants.

The sentinel looks friendly not at all terrifying

I guess Hugh might reprogram it and do some action like Real Steel as in Robot vs robot lol

The purpose of the Sentinels (judging by the info from the Trask Industries site) is to make humans feel more safe and comfortable. Why would they make them big, bulky and ominous? That would defeat the whole purpose of them.

It makes absolute sense that they are sleek, less bulky and visually appealing.

They are obviously intended to be a reassuring presence...

Thank you. The entire point is that they're *meant* to be protectors, so they would have to look friendly and like something you'd want to see at your kids' school, or on the beach, or protecting your home.

Obviously, we know otherwise about what they are, but that's not how they're promoted by Trask Industries to the mutant-fearing public. It's quite brilliant.

It's good old fashioned propaganda! In fact it's not even old.... Countries to this day use propaganda to get across a certain point of view

Double the size, lose the fan and use the head from X3. That's how it should have looked IMO

My jury is out on the look, but I appreciate the views here. It could grow on me.

I wonder if Bryan will touch on the themes of transhumanism in the movie, like he did with the online show H+. Here are the similarties:

H+ is about humanity falling apart because of an implant that works directly with a person's brain to connect to the internet. A world-level virus hits all active implants and shuts down the users' nervous systems, killing most of the world's population.

In some versions of the X-Men stories the Sentinels are mutant hunting machines that harms humanity: In the original DOFP comic, it led up to a world war. In the 90's animation, Mastermold eventually goes beyond human control and becomes independent of man's orders to hunt only mutants.

All in all, I guess they're both warning tales about how technology can ruin rather than improve our humanity.

I thought they will go CGI for this

It will probably a mix of CGI/the model.

I think the Sentinel picture with BryanSinger that we saw is just a model for the Sentinel or a prop.

It will look different in film.

Think these are the present/past Sentinel models that are supposed to make humans feel safer.

When we go into the future I think they'll drop all the pretense and we'll see a more comic-faithful ominous looking version meant only to destroy mutants.

That being said, I have no problems if these are the final versions. Pretty good translation from page to screen

Mark I was till 1996, since then till 2020 there are Mark II-IX, so in present we will have something between.

does it say there is a mark 2 on the website? otherwise maybe 1996 is when they stopped using sentinels, which may explain why they ain't mentioned in the OT and then an Army of mark 1s are released in 2013/ or 14 or 18

which may explain why they ain't mentioned in the OT

That's a question -- if Sentinels were first developed in 1973, why weren't they around for the first three X-Men movies?

Maybe Trask first created them in '73, but couldn't get any contracts or buyers, so they languished in a warehouse... until the assassination or whatever that causes the DOFP timeline.

I have no problem with the size of the Sentinel and I like the futuristic head but it just looks flimsy...like it could be taken out really easily by any mutant. It looks skinny and plastic-y. Maybe they will give it some cgi enhancements.

Once again I don't think we've seen the "final" Sentinel model which is the "X". That one will probably be far more intimidating seeing as Trask industries would already have proven itself with the more friendlier model we have been seeing.

I hope the Sentinel project is call Project Wideawake in the 70's seen as we saw that file on Strykers computer in X-Men 2...

Or it could be something else entirely.
I don't why but I see a sort of nanomachine cloud that could kill any mutant.

I haven't read any of the previous responses but your right, the one shown is an initial model in the 70s and we have not seen the future models.

That being said the one singer has shown is astonishing. I can't wait to see the newest models.
