I was under the impression you loved it.

I really enjoyed it and I'm hoping to see it again next week but I'm not sure I can say I loved it. Just a few things about it that I wasn't a fan of

The more I've thought about it, the more I've enjoyed it but I can't quite put it in my top tier MCU just yet.

That could easily change though since it did with Homecoming

Yeah I don't know that I'd put it in my personal Top 5 either yet. But TBF, I'd have to see it a few more times in order to be sure.

"Spoiler free" thread guys. Don't forget. :cwink:

And i have heard a lot about the rewatchability factor and how people seem to be wanting to see it again. Thoughts on that?

I plan to see it again, I try to see the MCU movies twice at minimum since Avengers1. I didn't see IM3, Thor2, or Ant-Man twice though. I liked Ant-Man but the other two my least favorite.

I will see if this will get to the elusive 3peat for me, only 3 of the movies have done that A1, Civil War, and I believe GOTG.

Nice. Have fun. :cwink:

My full spoiler free review

Thor: Ragnarok is the wackiest Marvel movie to date and has a lot of humor and is fun throughout.
They took Thor in an entirely new direction and it worked but the change to the character himself was a bit jarring for me.

Hulk, Hela and Valkyrie were all really good in this, especially the latter, who I think was my favorite character in the movie.

The action, the visuals and the score were big highlights and we have never seen Thor like this, he goes beast mode.

I can't finish this review without mentioning Korg, who was fantastic as well.

Thor: Ragnarok is a wacky spectacle that is a lot of fun, but it falls just outside of my top 5 MCU.

My ramblings...

Had so much fun watching this. Taika Waititi was able to turn the series around by making it witty and charming. There's a lot of Flash Gordon style moments in here where there's a lot of crazy and zany stuff going around and you were able to buy it. Chris Hemsworth did a fantastic job here as Thor. I feared with the amount of side characters, they would lose focus on Thor which thankfully wasn't the case at all. They finally gave Hulk justice by making him more fleshed out as a character. Also, Jeff Goldblum was at maximum Goldblum as The Grandmaster and I enjoyed a lot of the side characters like Valkyrie, Skurge, and Korg and the cameos were great. The only sorta problem I have with this was I feel like they crammed in two completely different movies (Planet Hulk and Ragnarok). It makes me wonder if they had taken one or the other and gave it more of a darker tone, it would have worked just as much. However, they were able to juggle both pretty well because of the comedy. Overall, I had just as much fun with this when I saw GotG vol. 2... and with the way it ended, makes me look forward to Infinity War even more.
9/10

Trailers got me really excited but the movie itself was rather boring.

Story/script were quite weak, humor was ok but nothing that would rofl me, another wasted villain. I like Thor but his films are amongst the weakest in MCU.

2/5

Agreed. I did like this film better than the last two Thor films, but that's not saying much. Like Guardians 2, it suffered from a weak story and entirely too much humor.

I voted 9/10. I personally loved it and definitely consider this to be in the top tier of MCU films. The only criticism I have is that I wish Hela had gotten a bit more screen time, but I other than that I'm happy with the final product

Is this movie about the comedic stylings of Thor and Hulk as they spread their zany hijinks across the galaxy in a romp filled Rom-Com?

Definitely not, imo this film is not nearly as comedic as people made it seem. It definitely has a large amount of comedy, but it's nowhete near the "pure comedy" people claimed it was.

Another question, but is there ever any REAL sense of threat and danger for the main characters throughout the film or do you already know that's it's gonna be a "Small World after All" ending when you first sit down? (being disney owned and all)

Stuff got pretty dark and hopeless during the final battle.

I felt almost anyone could die at any moment, and those that I knew would not die, might get bits and pieces lopped off.

Really enjoyed it. It's easily the best Thor film for sure, but that honestly isn't saying much. Chris Hemsworth just owns the role now and I believe he has earned being synonymous with Thor as RDJ as Iron Man and Chris Evans as Captain America. Ruffalo is great here too and him and Hemsworth really do have some awesome bro chemistry. I'm also glad to see Hulk not being reduced to some raging, out of control monster anymore. They gave him a lot of personality in this one and my favorite scene is easily the argument between him and Thor about not smashing stuff lol. As for the rest of the cast I liked Blanchett as Hela, but she needed way more development IMO. She's still one of the better Marvel villains, but I'd put her under Ego and Vulture. Jeff Goldblum is Jeff Goldblum, but that really works here and he had me laughing quite a bit. Tessa Thompson was solid, but I don't get all the hype the early reviews were making out of her. She had some decent fight scenes and played well off of Hemsworth, Ruffalo and Hiddleston, but that's really about it. Korg and Miek were pretty amusing and I was surprised at how funny they made Urban in this, although I wish we got to see more of him being a badass. The action sequences in this movie aren't particularly great or anything special, but I did love seeing Thor go HAM in the opening scene and parts of the Arena fight were dope. Poor Idris Elba looked like he didn't want to really be there at all, eventhough he had his moments, bu after seeing that first post credit scene I wouldn't be surprised if he bites it in IW. Speaking of IW I was expecting more direct tie ins, but at least it's done better than Guardians 2.

I'd give it a 8/10

I gave it a 9/10 on the poll but it's more like a 9.25 or 9.5 for me. It hit all the notes I wanted and would easily recommend it to any MCU or superhero fan who likes a bit of fun in their films.

This movie works. At about the 10-15 minute mark of watching this film I honestly felt like I was in good hands, and I was able to just sit back and relax, and from that point on it didn't let me down. By the time the credits rolled I couldn't say whether I was sitting for 30 minutes or for four hours...I didn't notice what time had passed and I would have kept watching whatever went up on screen, because it was so well put together.

The first standout of this movie for me were the large number of hilarious moments. Now my sense of humour tends towards the zany and absurd, and this movie was able to integrate the unexpected and out of place moments I find so funny without them feeling at all cheesy. Another standout was the final battle and especially a couple of amazing shots that were simply epic (similar on scale to the image of the Valkyries all attacking Hela from the trailers). One was a simple wide shot of the final battle that honestly gave me goose bumps. The other I can't describe without giving away spoilers, but it was right at the very end. I also loved the sense of history and lore of Asgard in this film, from all the revelations shown by Hela during her return to the realm. That sense of majesty that I got in the first Thor movie during Anthony Hopkin's voice over "...the realm eternal..." made a wonderful return. Strange since this movie showed us that the initial grandeur of Asgard from Thor 1 was a bit of a dishonest paint job, but that dark underbelly and history were fascinating character moments for the world and its inhabitants, and I could have watched Cate Blanchett stroll through hall after hall for hours. One of the last standouts to me was how well Thor played off all the other characters, and how he influenced and changed their lives with his will and sense of duty. This movie made him the main character, which is really the base expectation that a Thor fan like myself has walking in to it, and I have to say that this film passes that important test very well.

I know everyone is saying this is fun, and that's a good description, but I would say that this movie just works. And that's no easy feat, considering all they had to balance.

Now, there were a few small missteps from my perspective: Thor went too far out of character in one scene for me, and an early joke fell completely flat (for the whole theater actually, which felt really uncomfortable...oh, and my screening was a sold out show according to the people sitting beside me...one of them said he got the last ticket...impressive considering I chose a time when I thought it would be less busy). Some of the battles/fights I was most hyped for also ended with a slight let down for me. One was too short. Another was suitably long but ended without really...ending?

Overall I'd give this an 8.5/10. Well worth the full price to see in the theater, and I'm actually planning on seeing it again next weekend.

Solid 8/10 for me. It started off a bit shakey. The humor felt excessive at the start and I wasn't quite sure how to feel about this new tone for a Thor movie. But once the brothers caught up with Odin and the threat from Hela emerged the movie started taking off for me. Then it really kicked into high gear once Hulk came into the movie. I liked the characters and the humorous tone eventually won me over. I also liked that they sprinkled in a few emotional moments such as the Odin scenes. Best Thor movie by far and I hope to see it at least a couple more times while its in theaters. Then i'll be able to figure out where it ranks among other MCU movies.

It's well above your pay grade.

See... It's not that it's "just a comedy" that is in my critique... But it's filled to the brim with it and that material could easily been seen as elbowing out almost everything else except the action to a large degree. I liked it but what should have been one of many flavors did tend to overwhelm the palette too often for my, uh, taste. :yay:

Stuff got pretty dark and hopeless during the final battle.

Things were pretty dire at the end yes. They held certain cards close to their chest and I am happy that it wasn't all revealed in the trailers.

Same here!

9/10

The hype and reputation of this movie set expectations in a weird place. Critic reception is through the roof and some talk of it being a pure comedy tuned out to be grossly exaggerated. First and foremost the film has a proper amount of gravitas. It's not overtly "jokey" Scenes and actions have real weight. Thor and Loki both have great character arcs and both characters are fleshed out quite well.

The very beginning did give me pause. I feared that the early tone and rather light handling of epic characters from the books would make me hate this film. How Surtur, Skurge, Volstagg and Fandril are handled in the first 15 minutes frankly pissed me off. Even Loki seemed off at first. Yet, as the film unfolded most everything fell in to place nicely and everything seemed to fit the movie perfectly.

The action and the visuals are as amazing as advertised. Even Valkyrie worked as a character even though I was not sold on the casting choice. She could easily be any Valkyrie and not the specific one from the books. This third effort puts a wonderful bow on the trilogy with healthy nods to the previous two films. Yet, this certainly stands on its own and is very unique.

Hela is a superb villain and this is the best Hemsworth has ever been.

Allowed to settle after a stumbling start, this movie was a joy to experience and a blast to watch.
