Remender, Bendis, Brian Wood and Jason Aaron are all fantastic writers imo. This is the best X-men has been in awhile. I recommend checking out alot of the curren runs. Something in there for everyone.

Uncanny X-Men (Cyclops team), All New X-Men (Original 5 focused), X-Men (all female X-Men), Wolverine and The X-Men(Wolverine lead) and Remenders Uncanny X-Force (best X book you will read) are all solid.

I've been loving Jason Aaron's Wolverine stuff.

i'm reading SOME of the new Marvel stuff on and off...i'm meaning to get that all female x-team book...i hope it's good. Read the Bendis new X men stuff...and it was surprisingly good ..and i quit reading X-force after the first team incarnation ( with X-23, Warpath etc) What's Brian wood's book? i liked his Northlanders series...

I think the last 'big storyline/crossovers' from Marvel that i enjoyed was the Hope Saga...the second coming crossover was one of the best x-men story IMO

Brian Wood is writing the all Female X-Men book. Still early in the series but I've dug it so far.

Check out Rick Remenders Uncanny X-Force. Its alot different then the Yost/Kyle run. Best thing I've read in modern X-Men. I hold it up with the classics. Couldn't recommend it more.

Yeah, great writer. I dug his Wolverine stuff as well. Surprisingly I really dug WATX, which I didn't think I would since it's such a different tone then the other books.

Ah...the all female team...that the one book i actually really wanna read! and the new marvel knights series of course...Fantomex MAX!!

I'm thinking of picking up the first trade of the remender's run...but i was having some reservations about the line up.Deadpool was in it...the heck is that guy doing in an X book:oldrazz:

I just can't seem to get into his Wovie stories somehow, which is not to say i don't like him as a writer, because i freakin'love his Punisher max series...and his current Thor.

As far as WATX...it's the premise that bothers me.

Haha By the end of the run Deadpool steals the book.... and not because of his typical schtick. They actually give him character depth that he didn't have since the Joe Kelly Solo run.

The Dark Angel Saga portion of the run is really where it's at. As much as I recommend reading all the volumes thats where the book really hits it peak. So if you check it out make sure you get to that point before dropping off.

Yeah, his Thor run is friggen awesome!

Yeah me too, kind of gives it a stand alone feel against the other X-Men film covers aswell. It's such a good pic, wouldn't mind it on a T-Shirt.

It's funny that you mention that. My wife and I saw the movie Friday night and we saw it on some new screen at the regal theater. It's called DHX or something similar, larger screen and better sound. The sound system was just as loud and crazy as the Imax's system. Anyways, they gave everyone in that screening free shirts with that picture.

On another note, my wife and I really enjoyed the film. My only complaint was the pacing. Although I really liked the movie, after it was over I was thinking to myself that you could really feel the movies length.

I had no problem with the third act. Personally I find the complaint that it went too far with the comic book action really silly.

There's some risk in changing up the third act for a film. Batman Begins went all comic booky with its microwave emitter/city peril third act and I've heard Skyfall criticized for its third act change as well. The Slashfilm podcast guy I think it was really tore into the latter for that.

That had really been their plan the whole time, and it builds up to it throughout the movie. I get where some of the complaints were coming from, but I was fine with it.

How bout if i start by the Dark angel saga? would it feel...off?does the story all connected?

I wouldn't recommend it tbh. There may be like 1 filler issue with Magneto in there somewhere but everything is pretty much building to Dark Angel Saga. Could take away the impact if you skip some of the crucial situations and character development that lead to the heavy consequences later.

I went in fully expecting someone more traditional to be in the Silver Samurai and for Shingen to have a larger part. So for me it was kinda disappointing, even if the twist was signposted very early on.

While I still really enjoyed The Wolverine I do have my gripes with SS and the final fight (which I think can be summarized with 'Wolverine and Silver Samurai fall down a lot'). Plus the SS didn't look quite as good as I hoped. The Wolverine does feel like it suffers from the 'third act devolves into wonky cgi bad guy fight' that some recent action movies have suffered as well.

I wouldn't have had as much problem with it if they had revealed Yashida was in the suit before the fight starts. Since they didn't do that Logan is just fighting a nameless robot.

It was pretty obvious it was him though imo.
Yukio made a fairly obvious reference to this saying she didn't foresee his death. Plus with the Black Clan Ninja not being led by Shingen or Harada it didn't really leave anyone else as a possibility.

I know that but the movie itself played it like a mystery until the end, the reveal was suppose to be a twist. So given that Logan is just battling a giant robot, not very interesting to me. At that point we still didn't have a clear picture of what was going on, it appeared Viper was just crazy and built a giant robot out of adamantium.

The issue I had with the twist (and I'm discussing this now in the review thread) is that [BLACKOUT]There was no reason for the old man to fake his death.[/BLACKOUT] And once you realize that, it definitely lets you down. I love a good noir film. I love mysteries, but if you're going to do a mystery, the twist HAS to pay off. Otherwise the audience will feel let down. And that's how I felt by the twist in this film.

I still enjoyed the film quite a bit. But it needed some polishing with the story.

my only criticisms would be that i felt the film was a little long in some areas... and While I did love there take on Viper, i did get a bit lost as to what her real agenda was... They stated several times that she's "evil" and "out for herself" but.... they really never let us see what her end-game or motives were..... so i got a bit lost on that.
Thats also my problem with Viper.

But there's a report that they deleted her some of her scenes.

It would have been better if they didn't.

Somehow I don't imagine what may have been deleted will do any better of a job of explaining her character than what we have in the movie. I think that may end up being a flaw inherent to their interpretation of the character.

So where was Sabretooth in the prologue? Origins made it seem like Logan and he spent much every war together, so wouldn't he have been there in Japan as well?

No. Wolverine was alone in that well. Wherever he was when he got caught by the Japanese, he was alone.

This scene in the film gave me SERIOUS chills.

which is ultimately what makes her feel like she was just "thrown in there" which... infact she was.

The only thing she was needed for was the nanobot like bug that slowed wolverine's healing ability... her powers weren't needed, and there's nothing she added to the film other than a cool femme fatale. (which i might add, i would have loved to have seen her take on Mystique one day)

I stand by my assessment that the only reason she was added was 1 (she's been SS's body guard before, she was given powers because Marvel owns "Madame Hydra" where FOX owns "Viper", and they wanted another mutant in the film... (which i'm fine with, it'd be a bit odd that the US is littered with mutants, but Japan acts like they don't exist)

in all honesty i think Sunfire (Mariko's Cousin) probably would have been more of a natural flow than the forced Viper.

Maybe they should have said Viper is working for a terrorist organization, that is also behind the Yukuza. And she either wants wolverine's regeneration for herself, or for her organization.

but yeah, viper wasn't needed. anyone from the company could have put the nano-bot in him, and even if they didn't want to do the tech route... just poison him with special ancient ninja toxin that stops his healing factor till it passes. (similar to the story, when Storm, Wolvie and the gang's food is poisoned)

A quickie cameo here would have helped answer this question for me as well. They never explained why Logan was there in the well in the first place. I just assumed he got captured either by accident or on purpose for some undisclosed reason.

By the way, has this film had a great opener money wise? I just don't want it to fail even though I wasn't blown away by it. :(
