I think they did that purposefully so they have the option to circle back on it if they choose to. But at the same time it's not a loose end if they don't. And that, ladies and gents, is what we call good writing

Very true, they can revisit her and the happenings of this movie can be a plot point to the whole Jean/Phoenix story, if not, then it's left to interpretation. Either way this movie wrapped everything up very neatly.

Hugh's on Jimmy Fallon right now and they're about to play a drinking game. :funny:

Finally the day is here, no more waiting, no more reviews, no more speculation.

I get to find out myself if this movie is any good to me or not.

Can not wait to join in the discussion about it!

Blahhhhhh I can't get around to seeing it until probably Saturday night :/ oh well still extremely excited!

Less than 5 hours for me!

Same here, not done a review ever on this website, a proper in depth one but this will be my first for certain.

So interested to see how this ranks in my list of CBM's, as wolverine is one of my all time favourite characters I will be even stricter because of it.

It will do well to impress me but let us see.

Saw it last night, and I can't get over how awesome it was. Even in the very first minutes, you realize that this is gonna be more gory, more violent and more character-driven than any of the previous X-films. ;D

Seeing it tonight! ...for the second time. :yay:

Bastards at work wouldn't give me the day off graveyard so I could hit the midnight showing (even though I put in for it weeks ago). Mrrrr. Oh well. Seeing it ASAP Friday morning. Can. Not. Wait.

Could it be true? Is it time to get excited for X-Men again? I've pretty much given up on the franchise after First Class (I know I'm in the minority on that film but it has lessen to me over time).

But all this personal reviews of the Wolverine give me hope. I want this film to be excellent. I know a lot of people on these boards were either "meh" or down right hated Man of Steel but that's my bar for the summer.

I want the Wolverine to match it. This character deserves a great solo film. Is this film that great solo film?

Tonight is the night.

Speaking of which for people who have seen it, what are the references to Origins Wolverine?

I'm supposed to see this tomorrow with someone but now there's been a change of plans and I may not even see the movie until Saturday :(

I will be going at first showing at 1:50 here In Kansas city so my review will be posted by evening tomorrow.

Honestly? [BLACKOUT]Not much. Just aspects of his character - the bone claws, that he was in World War II. The rest is like that movie never existed. X3, is obviously referenced, since Wolverine is distraught over what he had to do to Jean. But this movie felt like a do-over after Origins.[/BLACKOUT]

I thought it was terrific. Of course, I got to meet Hugh before the movie started, so I watched most of it still shell-shocked, but I'm seeing it again tonight and I can't wait.

The rate and review thread is now stickied at the top of the page. Add your review, vote in the poll, please remember the spoiler tags (at least through the weekend).

Have fun!

Thank God there are few/almost no references to that film. I'll just continue to use the flashbacks from X-Men and X2 as background on the character. The bone claws in this film will just feel like a new revelation to the character that I didn't know about.

Essentially, we're getting the very first peak into his history with the opening of this film. Completely fine with that.

No 2D showings at midnight tonight, gotta see it tomorrow night. :(

So my parents and 13 year old daughter (who has seen pretty much all the Marvel and Fox SH films) are joining my wife and I to watch tomorrow - I'm just a bit concerned about the apparent swearing - I am very anti it around my kids (even sh** is hard core etc) so........ How bad is it?

I wanted to take my 9 year old boy too (who's seen the same films including XMFC) but I've heard enough to think "not yet".

My parents didn't watch X3, so without spoilers is the Jean part going to confuse or be lost on them? Or is there some kind of explanation? Or you just make do if you haven't watched X3?

Well,

Well, Wolverine does get to do another take on his line from First Class. That's the only time that word was used, but he does swear more in this one than he did in the previous films. I didn't find it overdone or gratuitous, it just fit with the character and with the overall tone of the movie.

As far as X3, the most important thing to know was that Wolverine had been forced to kill Jean.

How did WOLVERINE get his claws back?
here it goes!!! Its a long one from the comics..

After returning from the Skrull Homeworld, though, Logan kept saying that he thought Xavier was losing it. Eventually the Professor disbanded the X-Men, even rejecting Logan's offer to stay. Logan still joined up with the team that formed to help the Mannites, who were being hunted by Death III. Unfortunately, to save the Mannites, Logan sacrificed his life. His death sent shockwaves rippling through all the X-Teams, but the commotion was quickly replaced by confusion when the dead Logan was revealed to be a Skrull! Even worse, during a raid by the X-Men on a Skrull lair, they found out that Death III was really the true Logan!

It was soon revealed that Logan was captured and replaced by the Skrulls when the X-Men returned a week early from their eight-year trip back to Earth from the Skrull world. The Skrulls attacked the X-Men's ship, sending all of the mutants into stasis again as the impostor infiltrated their ranks. Wolverine was handed over to Apocalypse, who forced him to fight the adamantium-laced Sabretooth. Logan was losing until Creed told him why they were fighting: the winner would become Apocalypse's next Horseman. Logan realized that if he lost, Creed would become a destructive force that no one could ever stop, becuase he would relish his role and never fight it. So Logan pulled out all the stops and kicked Sabretooth's butt, figuring that he might eventually be able to break Apocalypse's brainwashing. The adamantium was then siphoned out of Creed's body and put back into Logan's, making him as indestructible as ever. Then, after Death spirited Mikhail Rasputin away to his master, and set a bomb in the Mansion, a group of X-Men took off after him to stop him. Pursuing him through the tunnels, they confronted and attacked him while Psylocke used Cerebro to peel away his brainwashing. Eventually they succeeded, and Death III was no more.

(Note this was also the issue where angel threw down with wolverine and gave him the fight of his life.)

Death III carried a sword which he appeared to be able to use to channel immensely powerful energy. He also appeared to have some sort of cloaking ability, which also shielded him from telepathy. He debuted by attacking the old OZT/Hulkbuster base, slaughtering its defenders, and destroying the body of Bastion, who was being held there. He was also after the Mannites, although the intervention of the X-Men prevented him from capturing or killing them at that point. However, Death was also able to tap into telepathic conversations and snuck aboard the Blackbird to follow some of the X-Men to where the rest of their number were with the Mannites. A battle ensued and Death killed Wolverine. However, the X-Men later discovered that the dead Wolverine was a Skrull, and attacked the Skrull base when the aliens attempted to kidnap Polaris. During the battle, Death III appeared and set a bomob, but before he could leave the X-Men found him and attacked. During the fighting Death's mask ripped and the X-Men were horrified to discover that it was none other than the original Wolverine! After Death spirited Mikhail Rasputin away to his master, and set a bomb in the Mansion, a group of X-Men took off after him to stop him. Pursuing him through the tunnels, they confronted and attacked him while Psylocke used Cerebro to peel away his brainwashing. Eventually they succeeded, and Death III was no more.

That's how he got his claws back. the issue of the adamantium being restored to his body by apocalypse takes place in WOLVERINE #145 titled:"On the Edge of Darkness"

note there's also an issue of Gambit series that showed sbertooth after that defeat. it tok place in gambit #16
(Issues as death during that major fight was wolverine #146 the X-men throw down with death III AKA wolverine)

wolverine #147(Wolverine & Archangel deal with both having been Apocalypse's Horsemen),

(Special Note this was also the issue where angel threw down with wolverine and gave him the fight of his life.) (And beat the day lights otta wolverine. )

Can someone tell me if there is an after credits scene -- just yes or no -- without telling me what it is? I just want to know if I should sit and wait or not. :)

Charles Xavier never died, he projected himself to Jean Grey at the end of Xmen 3.

It's better than first class. FC had some cringeworthy moments. It's not an x-men movie, it's very much a wolverine movie.

I loved man of steel and did not think the action was over the top. For this I also didn't think the third act was as bad as people are making it out to be. It's a culmination of the events before it, and a big showdown. There's nothing cringeworthy about the film for me, all the battles and SFX worked great, all of it was well done!
