Read issue 5 in the car before picking up dinner for the family. Wow. Never have I looked that shocked while picking up a pizza.

Great issue. Camuncoli's art has NEVER looked this good...and that ending. Ock is losing it. He's perverting the ideals of Peter Parker more and more....soon he'll realize the only way to save the world from itself is to rule it. It's coming.

This is great. This is like the most prolonged and awesome battle of Spidey's life.

Oh...and Norman's coming too....!!!

Sooooooo.... how was the pizza?

:yay:

Yeah, Spidey is going to be hated and untrusted by all when this is over. I wouldn't expect him on 50 different times for a long time to come. That's fine, I just hope he keeps all this cool tech. He should be like Tony Stark lite, not go back to being a loser making web fluid in empty pickle jars....

Welp, this pretty much confirms some of the thoughts I made in response to the Superior Spider-Man #4 earlier in this thread, in that because Doc Ock has now adopted Peter's creed of "with great power comes great responsibility," he will ironically become a greater menace.

To a quote by Benjamin Franklin: "Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." By all accounts, SpOck has pretty much pulled a Judge Dredd "I am the law!" declaration and everyone, so far, is letting him get away with doing just that, which of course will be to their detriment. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised as the more control SpOck gains in becoming a would-be Caesar of New York City that it ends up resulting in the fall of J. Jonah Jameson as the mayor of New York, with him realizing far too late that SpOck has turned New York into a police state and him being impeached for giving SpOck such crate-blanch. After all, he has publicly sanctioned vigilante-murder on live television.

I also hope that, after the events of this issue, this is when Mary Jane finally starts to realize that this is not Peter and that there's something seriously wrong. After all, no matter how much she may think Peter has "changed" even she should realize that Peter would never use a gun to kill a criminal in cold blood--if she's written in-character that is.

I'm hoping more people will start noticing Pete's off. At least Uatu was weirded out by Pete enough to get nervous when Spidey showed up. The ignoring of his change has been a bit annoying, but I can accept that for now. But IF after this execution, no one bats an eye, I'll cry foul. I'm just getting around to enjoying this book, and I'd hate it if everyone got stuck with an idiot ball for the sake of the plot....and now I'm worried about Anna Marconi :( I fear for her eventual well being.

But oh man, Normy as Gobby is such a breath of fresh air. I enjoyed him in the Hammer role, but I just missed Goblin so much. Here's hoping the return isn't short lived.

Aloha,
This is why I've been harping on the fact that Doc is a Criminal hiding out in a super heroes body. This guy NEVER changed. He never was committed to doing good. It's all a part of his Master criminal Plan.Ocks whole motivation has been to fulfill the criminal activities that he always had in mind. Now he's got the mayor of NY in his corner along with many of it's citizens behind him.If Norman Osborn could fool the people for a while you know Doc can do the same. It's very important that people keep up with Avenging Spider-Man. Ock is already revealing his sinister plans over there.
One thing that Peter should remember.
When Doc calls the police for backup, Peter acts hurt that he never thought of that. How could he when the police have been out to arrest him or shot him for most of his career.

Issue #5... wow.

I'm actually still holding onto the idea that Otto is trying to be a hero; it's just that he is who he is and the way he goes about things, while it may be efficient, isn't actually heroic.

And you know the bit that sticks in my mind? This bit Otto says near the end:

"This changes nothing. You are who you are. That killer will always be hiding inside you."

:/

Right? Pot, meet kettle.

That creepy last scene was what really sold the issue to me. It was just utterly badass. Can't wait to see where this goes.

Well, this very issue Ock said something about how he actively tried to kill basically everybody on the planet. So even if we haven't seen it, we know that the potential is there.

I haven't enjoyed the Spidey comics this much in years. Issue #5 was amazingly good. More and more Otto is showing his true colors with each issue.

I can't seem to remember Otto actually ever directly killing someone.

The tone of this issue is fantastic; the whole book takes place at night, giving the reader the sense of darkness that’s brooding. It also makes Edgar Delgado and Antonio Fabbella’s colors pop out a little more.

The Superior Spider‐Man continues to impress me, and with Green Goblin lurching around the corner and Spider‐Ock’s power growing, it’s going to be an interesting few months.

Aloha,
Otto Octavius is not now nor has he EVER been a hero. He is a psychopath, a murderer and a criminal. And don't you or anyone else EVER forget it.
Spidey rules-Doc Ock fools.....(some!)

Oh man, what if that's sort of foreshadowing something? Like, [BLACKOUT]Ock will always be in Peter's head even after all this Superior **** is over. [/BLACKOUT]

2spooky, man.

Wowowow...

Can't believe Slott actually let Ock kill Massacre. I've heard some criticism that the plot set up was a little silly, but I don't mind, I liked the way Slott handled it overall. Can't wait to see how Peter does after this, there will obviously be a confrontation soon.

It's probably what get's him kicked off the Avengers.
Why would he be kicked from the Avengers for killing? Almost all of the Avengers have killed. Logan makes a reputation off of it. Whatever happens next issue will be the beginning of what gets him kicked off. We see some random guys are bullying that Marconi girl in the preview, Ock may taken offense to it and beat them up...beating up regular civilians WILL get him kicked off the Avengers, but killing supervillains won't.

Very good points.....but in Logan's defense since Chuck has died he has tried no to kill.....

IF they did boot him out, I think the whole televised crying and shaking and realizing the error of his ways, before the execution would be more of a kick in the butt. Even though there's the "Wolverine" morality of "sometimes badguys need to be put down" those usually are in the heat of the moment while they're still an active threat. Still I think this will be the start of his downfall.

I was surprised Ock killed Massacre, I thought Peter would of got to him. Slott is making quite a excellent and fun story!

No... what is does is bring back Spider-Man to his former glory years where nobody trusted him, and the police were always after him...
