The details on this suit is almost absurd but in a good way. I like it.

that shield takes away his chest build, unfortunately... plus, the material they used was very thick, so i really dont see any definition of his chest...

and the trunks design doesnt help in the least bit either

...and if it had some ham, and maybe some cheese...and some bread it would be a ham sandwich !:sly:

:cwink:

...It does have a swirl to it but hardly looks like the \S/ on his chest.

My only point was that in the first official image (in the rain) the buckle looked much more like a true S than in the close up images.

 No, it's the S. It's this version of it, but without the diamond and further stylizing the linework.

I used to watch Lois & Clark and I have a lot of time for Cain, but my God, there was absolutely no attempt to distinguish his Clark and his Superman other than with the hair and glasses; which on their own simply don't work without a change in demeanor or personality. In terms of his shape, Cain started off pretty decent but got a bit pudgy towards the later seasons [as I'm typing this I recall stories in the papers at the time about him being lazy in regards to working out]. He was though hampered by an absolutely awful suit [yes, they adopted the premise of the home-made suit, but was this just an excuse for how amateurish it was executed?] where literally the only good thing about it was the colours.

Teri Hatcher was so fine back then...

Yes, the colors were the absolute only thing good about this suit...well the cape and how it attached too. But the S, the belt, the diapers, the boots... Freaking Horrible!

Someone coined the nickname 'soap bar buckle' on here ages ago and you just look at the thing in that picture and go 'God, it IS a soap bar, isnt it?' :D

This is my favorite shot of the suit, what a badass pose and setting. It's beautiful! :D

Dean and Teri had the best chemistry of any Lois and Clark couple, imo.

Dean Cain was the worst Superman hands down and his costume was awful. I'd rather watch Routh in his scuba diver Superman suit than Cain.

Yeah but that Suit was actually made by his mom, wasn't it?

... So it may actually be a bar of soap. :cwink:

I feel like the SR suit could have been great with just a few changes. I loved the raised shield, it just needed to be bigger. The red more vibrant, lower neckline, and a different cut on the trunks.
I didn't mind the "scuba suit" blue fabric.

I disagree I'd take him over Routh any day.

Also the Cavill Superman seems to take a few aspect that came from the Cain Superman.

For one there is the hair with Clark with the more coiffed look and Superman the more slicked, when it's usually the opposite.

Also Cain was the first live-action Superman to play Clark as real and not just a fake nerdy identity for Superman. Cavill seems to be taking a similar approach.

The costume was also about as good as anything you'd get on 90's TV when dealing with Superhero's. Hell they could have put him in something like this:

Hey! I like the JWS Flash costume! That thing was a million times better than the Cain suit!

Unless you're talking about the Trickster costume. Which I think you are, lol.

Anyway, yeah, Cain did play Clark more realistically, but that's not where the trend started. John Byrne's reboot of Superman in the mid-eighties reshaped Clark into a less-nerdy and more serious journalist, and that continued throughout the 90s. Also, George Reeves' Superman did the more slicked look for his Superman (though his Clark sported nearly the same style).

I liked Cain's color scheme, but the materials were crap.

Cain's "S" always looked really silly to me and the belt was so cheap.

Also... those go-go boots. What were they thinking?

pretty sure most tv and movie Supes had more slicked SupesHair... so not sure where the reference to Dean's starting it came from, need to look past your first imprint of Supes to the whole picture throughout the years, if you grew up on L&C. MoS almost stopped the trend with Supes hair not being really contained(a bit gelled looking, but not crazy straight neat), but now they've gone back towards the rest with really slicked SupeHair in BvS... not sure how that's supposed to work in the "real world grittiness" they are going for when you travel at mach speeds, but love this Supes rendition as a whole over all previous attempts.

I've only seen Superman having slicked back hair on Dean. He also needs to be thanked for playing Clark as a real person not a cartoon. That shot of Dean is a bad image for thr costume; it does make the trunks look like a diaper, but usually to me they looked normal and not ridiculous.
I wouLD much rather watch his Superman than Brandon's. Of course Henry has had the best suit out of all of them but Deans is my second fav because of the color and fabric.

Once again, Routh gets by far the worst deal. Poor guy.

I guess there are various degrees of what we all consider slicked back hair...

Most of these guys had A LOT of product manipulating their hair... the least looking like Welling.

I do consider George, Christopher, Dean, & Brandon to have the most "slicked" or neatly combed back look to their hair.

Dean's purple suit is one of my least favorites too, for all the factors already mentioned... loved the show all around, I am only addressing the Superman look.

Brandon's build was great & could have easily rivaled Christopher's, I am with those feeling he got shorted on the look due to costume aesthetics... an "S" 1/3 larger alone would've made an immense difference.

Even with the times they were and the bodies folks were used to on-screen, Christopher's gains of ~37 pounds of muscle for his first go at it in only 6 weeks of prep is awesome by any day's standard... then added 13 more pounds of beef for the 3rd movie.

Brandon went through some good training too, and I would put his final results off screen ahead of the previous Christopher effort in absolute form, but the suit took a bit of that away, and they even had him back off training as he was progressing beyond their ideal.

Put into perspective, Henry gained 20 pounds of muscle for the role, over months, with far better body mechanics...granted he was in phenomenal shape coming into the specified training already though. I do think he brings the comic book look amazing proportions to life the absolute best.
