I absolutely love it, but here's what I say. If you like student books like New Mutants and Generation X then you'll like Academy X. If you didn't like them then you won't. It's basically the same type of thing with differant kids. Future X-Men and X-Corp members in their early training days.

jh- i read emma was cancelling on a yahoo group I subscribe to. it looks like mystique is shutting down too. It seems like the women of x can't carry a series, doesn't it?

I'll admit, academy x is kinda soap opera-ish, but its more realistic, and has better dialogue than soaps. some of the characters are actually interesting.

for those who read academy; the girl (i think sophia) can hear sounds carried on wind, is it possible for storm to do it too, or has it never came up?

I can't recall Storm ever doing that but I have wondered if she could. It seems kinda odd having a character that pretty much has an 1/8th of Storm's power and that's it. I like that she can maybe do things with it differantly.

yeah i like how she can do different stuff, I mean, it's not like every single person has a power completely different from everyone else.

we got a couple of people with healing factors, shape-shifters, and we all know we have a handful of telepaths.

It's good that they can create unique powers sometimes. But on a side note, Storm is Omega class isn't she? does that mean she has reached the highest level that her powers can achieve, or that a person has full control over the abilities?

No shes not an Omega mutant. She is very powerful and can pretty much use her powers fully.
Omega mutants have unlimited potential, and upon nearing it have described it as a 'being at one with everything'ness.

The only confimed Omega mutants are Jean, Bobby and Kid Omega. I think that out of all of the other mutants the only other ones that are serious posibilites are Franlink Richards and David Haller. David Haller i'd say as a definate. In touch with all of his power he would pretty much have been a god.

I think its been said that Josh Foley from New X-Men is an omega mutant.

Yup, he's an omega level healer. Exactly what that means we'll see. He did subconsciously raise himself from near death. Maybe he'll eventually be able to raise the dead.

Hey, for any other Academy X fans. In the Holiday Special comic that just came out there's a great story in there staring Emma, Scott, and Kevin Ford. It's Winter break for Xaviers and a lot of the kids are having homes to go to or people who will care for the kids for the break. The family who was going to show Kevin a good x-mas bales because they are afraid he's going to hurt their children. Then it shows how Emma and Scott step up and give him a great christmas. It isn't written great but the idea and feeling of it is wonderful.

mightiest mortal, thanks for the info. thanks for informing me on omega class mutants. i may be having a blonde moment (though i'm brunette), but who is david haller again?
I always thought Gamesmaster had to be pretty powerful if he can hear the thoughts of everyone on the planet at once, and still be able to function. but knowing me, i probably have his abilities all screwed up lol.

David Haller is Legion, the son of Charles Xavier. He has several powers but one being of Time Travel, which caused the whole Age of Apocalypse.

I would assume Gamesmaster is Omega as well, though I do remember in an annual Jean said something about him not being as powerful as he makes others believe, so maybe not.

I just thought this would be fun to see. According to January's Wizard here is where the X-Men rank in the Best Selling Comics of September:

2. Astonishing X-Men 5
5. Ultimate X-Men 51
6. Uncanny X-Men 448
11. X-Men 161
12. X-Men 162
16. X-Men The End 3
17. Wolverine The End 5
20. Wolverine 19
28. Excalibur 5
31. X-Force 2
34. New X-Men: Academy X 5
35. Gambit 1
37. Nightcrawler 1
54. Gambit 2
66. Exiles 52
67. Rogue 3
69. Madrox 1
80. Jubilee 1
85. Cable/Deadpool 7
89. District X 5
94. Emma Frost 15

Any thoughts?

astonishing was #2. what was number 1?

I'm not even a DC fan, but I will agree that series is one of the best comics I've ever read.

hahaha uncanny is number 6, out of all those people who complain that uncanny sucks its still in the top 10. wow.

Perhaps were it not bought just to maintain collections in many cases, it would rank lower. Just a thought.

As much as I love X-Men I have to agree it's that way with a lot of their titles. The X-Men have something that a lot of other comics don't, a fanbase, not to the books but to the characters themselves. There's a lot of readers (myself included) who will continue to pick up crappy stuff just to keep up with their characters they like. While I like Uncanny currently I can see why people these days would complain. Chris writes like he use to, slow progression toward a great story overall. People these days want instant gratification or it "sucks." Heck, the overall Phoenix storyline was long and drug out but everyone raves about how it was the best one out there but it took around 101 thru 139 to tell the full story of the Phoenix if I'm not mistaken. Nowadays people would read maybe the first 6 issues and then claim that it needs wrapped up and drop it because it went on too long.

jewish hobbitt- i agree with you.

I'm tired of stories that seem like they're only written to fill a tpb. I myself have never had the privilege of reading the Phoenix Saga, but I do understand its significance and importance. It may just be me, but I don't mind long story arcs that are good. I'd prefer a wonderful 10-parter over a horrible 5-parter any day.

Comics are like tv to me, I prefer to watch season long shows (which are like 24 episodes) or mini-series. No one wants their shows to wrap everything up in 2 or 3 episodes, so why should our comics be that way?

:wolverine I wondered.... I know this hasn't much to do with the forum, but I really want to see the comic art when Wolverine killed the Xorn Magneto... can someone scan me the pictures?

Anyway, getting to know the comic guy even more the I do now, would make me smile more when I see the movies you know... it's an important peice of history.

Phoenix worked for 37 issues because it wasn't just Phoenix at the time. There was the Legion plot, Some Alpha Flight stuff, a short arcade story. You see, back then everything was a subplot if it didn't get finished in one issue. Most plots that we remember developed over several issues and came to a conclusion months if not years later. That's the one things comics today don't have, Sub Plots. I miss the way comics were told back then. I prefer the single story and hundreds of subplots in one issue rater that a single story a few subplots in 6.

i have to admit, jean was never my favorite, but that was more along the lines that I hadn't read much centered on her than dislike. But that issue (NXM 150) made me respect her. Too bad you didn't include the page between them too. The whole "Live scott live. All I ever did was die on you" still gets me. I dunno why but that phrase was in my head like 2 days after I finished reading the issue.

Maybe u could post the page???
