The Twelve

Ha! Not Angel the Buffy character. I'm talking Angel the Timely Comics character from the 30's and 40's. I was just giving another example of how violent comics were.

Ha! My bad. I remember that guy, there were some cool cats back then.

I wonder if he'll make the cut and be included in this...

It's true. These guys were frozen to advance the nazi superhuman programs. Which begs the question why they froze mofos who had no powers.

Are you making that up? Because if that's true, I could accept that.

"The disappearance of The Twelve from Marvel history for so long is explained that these heroes were kidnapped during the final days of World War II by German Nazis. "None of these characters has been seen since the fall of Berlin, so I picked that as the point to say that nobody's seen them because they were grabbed by the Nazis and put into cryonic suspension," explained Straczynski. "[The Nazis'] theory was that they were getting beaten by the Allies because they didn't have enough super-powered guys, so these twelve were taken randomly for the purpose of studying their powers and making the Germans the true master race when the Third Reich v2.0 came along. Needless to say the Allies messed up that plan, so the twelve remained in stasis until a construction project in Berlin accidentally stumbled upon their frozen tubes."

I never lie...

So...today's time then. If there's time travel involved, I may cry.

No time travel is involved.

I know this for a fact Photojones, eventhough I havent read anything about it yet. I just know cause thats how I see it.

At least there's no time travel. This could actually turn out to be a pretty decent story...

This could rock if done right, JMS can make one hell of a story. We don't know who's in the twelve, so we don't know if they have powers or not. I mean all I know about these guys is from the internet (a bastion of truth).

Yeah, the Nazi scientist, cryogenic freezing aspect is always great. I'm now looking foward to this a lot.

I'm actually tired of Nazi's in comics. I mean, over in JSA, we get it, JSA, WWII, Nazi's, can we move on now?

I'm kind of tired of cryogenics in comics, myself. Cap was fine, Bucky was all right, but now it's getting ridiculous. It seems like if you put on a costume during WWII, you stood about a 50/50 chance of being frozen and thawed out 50 to 60 years later.

It's a very easy way of bringing old characters back. And it doesn't involve time travel, which is always a plus.

Definitely eating up all the Golden Age goodness next year.

Superpowers.Next Issue Project.The Twelve.

Cannot wait.

Marvel in a way needs some Golden Age characters in their current travels, especially as some of their most frequent ones are currently dead (Captain America, Jim Hammond) or infrequent guest-stars, like Spitfire or Hellcat.

On the other hand, some of these characters are very obscure, and some of their designs have aged badly. That guy in diapers & a collared cape is downright creepy. I'd have used some Golden Age characters with more recognition.

I'll give it a chance, though. Marvel's been offering some good launches and re-launches so far this year.

The reason why Naziis keep coming up is because using them as bad guys offers no controversy. Remember the howling yells when someone DARED to have Captain America battle an enemy that is current to the United States (that is, Islamic Terror?). No one wants to see a repeat of that.

very cool, here's some more info on her:

Fictional character biography
Madame Claire Voyant is a spirit medium who communicates with the dead through supernatural means. She has blonde hair and an eerily flowing green dress. While serving a family named the Waglers, she is possessed by Satan to put a curse on them. James, a member of that family, survives a subsequent car crash provoked by the spell, and returns to Claire's quarters and guns her down.

Voyant's soul goes to Hell, where Satan dresses her in her Black Widow costume, which has a spider-like design on the front, a green cape similar to her dress, and boots with fire designs on the trim. He gives her the power to kill with a single touch of her fingers to the head (which leaves a branded "Black Widow mark"); to summon flames; and to use other mystical tricks. Satan — who, daringly for the time, was discreetly depicted as a nude man — sends her back to Earth to avenge her death. After killing her murderer, she returns to Satan, who, no longer content to wait for evil souls to die a natural death and perhaps repent their sins in the interim, charges her with bringing those souls to him. "On the upper world are mortal creatures whose hearts are blackened with wickedness and corruption. You, the Black Widow, will bring their souls to me!"

She later kills corrupt arms manufacturers, crime boss Garvey Lang, members of a syndicated called Murder, Unlimited, and the villain Ogor, while also healing Ogor's victim. In a 1990s retcon, she aids the Invaders against the Nazis.

Her introduction in Mystic Comics #4:

“ Introducing the strangest, most terrifying character in action picture magazines — the Black Widow. You've heard of the black widow spider — that evil creature whose bite spells doom. Now start the adventures of another black widow — a human tool of Satan whose very touch means death.

One hundred cool points for anyone finding info on the witness other than being a stan lee creation.

One strike for the name "Claire Voyant." The rest sounds interesting.
How about just creating new characters?
I'd love it if the Twelve were a mix of revived Golden Agers and a few descendants who've taken up their ancestors' legacies.

It's no T.O. Morrow, but I suppose it works.
