The "Ultimate DC Universe" RPG, Season 3.0

"Hey Ton, the Irish **** finally picked up, ya wanna talk to him?"

Tony spit out the sunflower seed in his mouth, his mouth curled in a cruel smile. "I dunno Joey. I don't like bein' stood up. Maybe we should uh... do something more.. on a personal level. Ask him what he's got to offer."

Joey uncovered the receiver. "Da boss is a bit upset about you not returnin' his calls Mickey. Ya done gone hurt his feelers. He was so hopin' ya'd go to prom wid him. He wants to know hows yur gonna make up for it."
Nervously, Corrigan laughed over the phone. "Well I can tell ya, that Thorne's got a big shipment of drugs comin' in tonight. I haven't told the captain yet, figured you could nab about half of it before we collar them. Just so we have enough to put Thorne away."

Corrigan was on speaker at this point, and Tony smiled at that proposition.

"I'll take you up on the offah, Jimmy. But I best be gettin good stuff outta it."

"Great Tony. Its Dock 15B. We'll be there at 9:15, ship comes in at 8:45... so make it quick."

Tony hung the phone up, and looked at Joey.

"Take four o' our guys to the docks. I want at least half o' that ****. Capiche?"

"Got it boss."

"Well I'm done with you. Jesus ****ing Christ, can we just end this already? You three have gotta be the worst heroes ever. Yellow dude can alter reality or whatever, but he's got a sense of humour to work with. Dominatrix, you have no sense of humour, timing, skill or generally anything. No witty lines, or anything revealing your origin. Let's face it, you're a pretty **** hero. And Bats could've killed me five times in the last second, but he hasn't. What the hell is going on? I'm just one guy with a gun!" Black Mask screams, and points his gun at Huntress. He squeezed the trigger and shoots her in the shoulder, laughing as she screams aloud.

"Hurts don't it? So next time, don't shoot me without ****ing permission!" he screams.

The pain in my shoulder throbs from the bulletwound, but not as much as the headache Black Mask has given me with his stupid comments and refusal to surrender. He may think he has me taken out, but I'm not finished yet.

As Black Mask creeped up closer to Batman, I had stood up, still shaking from the pain of the gunshot, but still able to fight it and deliver a spinning drop-kick to Black Mask's back, and spinning him around to kick the gun out of his hand before punching him square in his scarred nose. He stumbled back before regaining his composure, and I had my back turned to Batman's.

"You're not in this alone, Batman. I'll handle Black Mask."

Pulling my collapsed bo staff from my leg holster and unfolded it in seconds, I held out my hand and signaled my fingers torwards me.

"Let's go. Come at me."

Hal clenched his fists and sneered at Despero, the moment the monster's mocking words reached the Green Lantern, the protective aura returned to him, tenfold in brightness.

*Ring Energy at 23%.*

"Thank you, ring. I always knew you believe in me." Hal muttered to the ring, before looking Despero right in the eyes.

"Don't worry about me, Despero, I can go all day. You, on the other hand, don't look so good. I'm starting to think I don't even need my ring to take you in."

Despero growls in rage as Hal takes two steps forward, raising his fist and pointing the ring directly at the killer's chest.

"But you know me, I do so like to fly." Jordan said with confidence, before becoming a green blur and hurtling himself towards Despero at amazing speed.

IC:

Hal comes flying at Despero, his shield warping into a bulldozer as he rams into him, Despero catching the constructing. Hal struggles to keep the construct intact all the while Despero starts to pull on opposite ends. Hal wills all his might to keep the construct whole, his will working against Despero's might.

*Ring Energy at 18%.*

Despero starts slowly break the construct, until Jordan is left vulnerable for attack. Just as Despero follows through with a punch, Hal whips up another construct. The green tiger that attacks Despero buys Hal some time as he starts to descend into the sky, but only enough time to allow him to land on his own two feet. By the time Hal looks back up at the skies, Despero comes crashing down to the soft Earth.

Creating a trampoline, Hal is able to bounce off where Despero strikes, and fall backward. The cloud of smoke, dirst, and dust from Despero's fall almost works against Hal more than anything. And so, he creates to green boxing gloves on each hand, getting into a stance.

"I finally smell it, Jordan. That same sense of fear I brought upon Abin Sur himself, when I merely laid calm in my cell on Oa. You're losing hope, aren't you? A celestial being who should be so justly brought down by the celestial police officer is doing just the opposite. This is merely a game to me, Jordan. But to you...you're putting all your effort into it. All your...energy."

Hal turns, blocking as he expects Despero to strike from the side, but the movement of the smoke and dust fool him. He starts to sweat from the forehead, and wipes the sweat away.

"Come on out, Despero. Let me show you how we whoop ass in the Air-Force."

Hmmm....very well.

"RRRAAAAAAA!!"

The smoke dances away as Despero jumps forth at Jordan, Hal connecting with a clean hook to the jaw. He gets down on one knee, holding his right hand. Despero disappears back behind the cloud of dust.

"AHHH!!"

He cannot even keep the boxing glove constructs strong enough to shield his hands. While not entirely invulnerable, Despero's durability is without a question far superior to the human anatomy. And this...is perhaps the first time Harold Jordan starts to really fear his death upon him.

Despero lashes out once more, this time Hal falls on his back, a green bubble being all that shields himself from Despero onslaught of hits. But the Green Lantern tries to keep up his defenses as best he can regardless.

Three more smashes upon the green bubble.

*Ring Energy at 11%.*

Four more smashes upon the green bubble. Despero attacks like that of a wild gorilla, pouncing and smashing upon its foe.

*WARNING. WARNING. Ring Energy dropping below 10%. Ring Energy at 7%.*

Two more smashes.

*WARNING. WARNING. Ring Energy dropping below 5%. Ring Energy at 4%. RECHARGING ADVISED.*

One more blow, and the green bubble shatters. The emerald green particles all but disperse and fade into nothingness as the shattered parts of the green bubble fall onto Jordan. A weak and weary man lies on the floor, and as Despero smiles with glee and walks closer to him, he scurries back on his back, trying to get away in fear. Just when he thinks he has some distance, he charges his ring once more, but a large purple foot stomps on his back.

"AAAHHHH!!"

The green light fades away.

"You are now just a man, Harold Jordan. Entirely defenseless and fragile is what you are without your Green Lantern ring. But you will not die this day. While your death is something that is inevitable and something I will grant you personally, it will not come this day. You have not suffered enough. You have not lived in fear of the Darkness. Fear of my Almighty wrath
."

Taking his foot off of the heroic Green Lantern, Despero's third eye glows.

By the time I am through with you and grant you your death...you would have already lived and feared Despero's might.

And instantly Hal Jordan is teleported to the Alternate Earth where little does he know other heroes like him await.

She was at the gym, push ups, sit ups, getting back into shape. Donnie was there and Lyle was at school. "Don't you think your pushing yourself a little hard?" He asked her as he watched her beautiful body work.

Slowly in and out, she breathed, up and down against the floor her body worked harder, muscles flexed. She heard him talk, and waited... Getting up, she took the towel off the rack, "maybe..." She quietly said walking past him, stop. He stood behind her, she turned around, and kissed him, "or maybe I'm just warming up." Stephanie winked walking away from him.

"Miss Brown." Dixon said from the shadows. Jumping, she caught her breath the gym was busy no one noticed, Donnie had his back turned, her eyes scanned the floor. Dixon placed his hand over her mouth, "please your discretion is required, reports of thefts from Warehouses near the Narrows, not sure whats in them but I'd like for you to search them out tonight."

She waited for him, as he removed his hand. "Sure, I'll be there."

"Good." Without another word he turned and walked away.

Donnie approached, "who was that?"

"No one, hey, can you watch Lyle tonight... I have a... uh meeting tonight."
She lied, he frowned sighing heavily, she was lying and he knew it.

"Sure, but she's gonna ask."

"I know, tell her I have a meeting just like I told you, and if she asks why its so we can have a better life."

It wasn't like her to lie, her mind searched for frivolous answers but it was no use, as she walked away her heart broke, her life was no longer her own, and she hated that feeling, that helpless feeling. She walked out of the gym heading to her car, the traffic was busy people walking to and from . Looking around she wondered what all of this meant, if meant anything at all.

Earlier:

"Well, shucks. I guess we'll play it your way."

Creeper's attempts to 'help' me have worn thin on my nerves. Regardless of his intentions, he still has the blood of two of Gotham's leading crime bosses on his hands. Yet even faced-to-faced for the first time since, it doesn't phase him in the least. He committed murder, and it doesn't phase him in the least. Needless to say, his kind has no place among civilized society.

Grabbing a bola from my belt, I swing it over my head, and let it fly. It wraps around the maniac's body and tightly comes to a snug, just around his waste. He attempts to break free, but a swift, concentrated kick in the solar plexus convinces him otherwise. He goes down, hard, as I leer above him.

UltBatmanLogo-5.jpg

"If you intend to ever walk again, I'd suggest you stay down."

My threats prove hollow, however, if not effective ruses to my current state of mind. The truth is... I'm not entirely sure what to do from here. Creeper has attained bizarre superhuman abilities since the last time we met, apparentally, and that's only the beginning of the problem. There's still the woman on a murderous rampage calling herself The Huntress to be dealt with, while Black Mask and Crane still roam the halls of the now vacant prison. And with every passing moment, Blackgate's prisoners become a slim population, as each and every criminal runs amok, hoping to break through to a path leading into Gotham.

It's too much for me to possibly handle as it is. But even though I try to hide it, I'm not in entirely top physical condition anyway. Freeze and Ivy's ill-attempted stunt at the Gotham District Courts still affected my mind and body in ways that I'm only beginning to discover. If I keep this up... I could feasibly pass out from the strain. And if that happens, it's over. Two-Face will have won, and his insane schemes will have proven Gotham hopeless, costing countless lives if whatever he's planning reaches fruition.

I need to think.

I need to fight.

"At last..."

With a confused expression, I spin, facing the origin of a strange voice. In the darkness of the prison's corridor stands a tall individual, wielding a large and sharpened butcher's knife. Given his attire and body weight, he's obviously been here awhile. But who...?

"At last, the legendary Batman appears within our walls. I have heard so many myths. You could not imagine how great an honor it is..."

I clench my fists tightly together, preparing for another battle. "Save the small talk. You're going back to your cell."

He laughs. Not like The Joker, by any means... but close enough to keep me on edge, as he runs his fingers loosely down the blade of his weapon.

"I have no intention of returning. Conformity to the law of the walking zombies we call a society is but the greatest sin a man could commit."

"I beg to differ."

"Do you? That's a shame. Here, I thought our ideals would be matched. But now, I see the truth. You're just another one of them. Another fascist trying to do right in the world, when the only true freedom is through deliverance..."

As he tries to throw me off with words, I notice the alarming amount of thickly placed scars running up his arms, neck, and chest. Are those... self inflicted?

"You could say I'm a believer, Batman..."

batman12od4.png

"And I believe, it's time for the kill. Starting with you, rawmeat."

Despite what this deranged lunatic believes... there's little about him that could be percieved as 'intimidating'. With a simple motion, I've assumed a battle stance, motioning him to come forward. Black Mask laughs behind me, but I issue a warning to them both, with grim precision... just as the gunshot comes through Huntress' shoulder.

To hell with it. I've everything to lose. And it's just those sort of odds that appeal to me.

"Both of you. Shut up and fight."
Zsasz lunged at Batman, driving a knife towards the dark knight's shoulder. As the vigilante ducked the knife thrust, Zsasz punched him in the jaw. The murderer licked his lips, and grinned cruelly.

"I saw you looking at my scars. Intrigue you, do they? Each one represents one soul. One soul that I have mercifully set free. One soul that I've sent the great beyond. It's my own little record keeping system. Without It I might not know that I'm going on my second hundred."

He saw Batman's lips curl in disgust and replied with a snarling lip curl of his own.

"I may even run out of room soon."

Anger courses through my veins with every breath he takes. He could be calling a bluff. Maybe that's the point... fueling a rage within me so I'm thrown off balance. He could be trained, by that regard. But looking at all of those scars... it becomes more concieveable that he actually has taken as many lives as he claims. Which means one of two things... he's going into an Arkham cell, or I'm going into a morgue.

The former is more than likely.

"I may even run out of room soon."

"I wouldn't count on that."

Moments pass, but he he lunges at me with careful precision. The blade of his weapon is customized... probably to increase efficiency. Disarming him would probably be a wise first course of action, because if my body armor can't hold the weapon back, I'm done for. He twists, fast, trying to take a clear slice. I only barely manage to counter the attack with the blades of my gauntlets. With a click, the knife is jammed, providing me enough of a distraction to send a hard uppercut to his face.

As he falls, I toss the knife into the wall, letting it stick. He won't be needing it anymore.

"Whatever your stake in the events tonight were is irrelevant. You can either surrender,", I warn, as he wipes the blood from his jaw. "...or you can suffer."

"Choose one. Choose the second."

wwsymbol-thumb.gif

My senses slowly return to me, but even then, there is no light. I've been buried beneath what must be hundreds of tons of rubble. Even lying still, the weight crushes down on me, the layers of dust still choking out the air.

In my injured state, I cannot break free. So I call out to Gaea to heal my wounds.

...and am once again reminded that this world is not my home.

The presence floods into me, and for a moment, I am overwhelmed with pain. It is not pain meant to be inflicted upon me, but the pain this world has kept to itself. This Earth has been suffering, has known horrors the likes of which I have never seen. Where there was once life, there is now torture and death. Its people have been driven out of their homes, forced to serve or die...all at the hands of seven people.

And one of those seven....is me?

No. This world's version of me. The 'Warrior Woman' of which the crazed bomber had spoken. If the woman who bears my face in this realm had been behind this destruction, I can see why it would cause such violent grief in a man.

I feel the planet's strange reaction to my being here. She can see I am by rights the same person as Warrior Woman, but can tell I am not of her creation. And what's truly amazing is, for a split second, she lets me know that I am not the only foreigner on this world. My world's version of this world's seven villains are all here....

As the alien Gaea bonds with my spirit, it lends me what is left of its strength. She heals my wounds, and without words, tells me to save what is left of her people. I am now in this world's debt, and it can only be repaid by stopping Warrior Woman and the other villains here.

With all of my newfound strength, I push against the debris that has me pinned down. It shifts....it bends....and finally gives way.

Bursting forth from a cloud of smoke and dust, I emerge from the ruined building and take to the sky. I ready the Lasso at my hip, and begin the search for the other misplaced heroes. If Despero sent Superman to this world as well, perhaps we can bring down Warrior Woman and her compatriots, and find our way home.

"I will find my other lost heroes," I pledge to the alien Gaea, "and together...we will deliver justice."

NEW YORK DAILY
WONDER WOMAN SAVES THE DAY!
Where is she from? Why is she here? Does she have family?
_________________________________________________

"Donna, babe, just... just be careful while I'm gone alright, I know you got these powers... it scares me... and," He was stopped as she responded.

She thought a moment as she slid her belt around her, "I know, my love." She kissed him gently, "you are off to war, and I will be here on my own. I'm just glad you can accept me."

"Well, it's not easy I'll tell you that... when your wife can lift a car and you can't.. but," He gave her a kiss on the lips, "but I know you can take care of yourself." Pause "Just.. just do things for yourself a'rite? And do me a favor fire that stupid agent of yours he jus gonna ride dat money train now."

She nodded knowingly, "well then I must go, New York awaits me at this hour."

"Sure, just ... talk... talk like you do to me, the must go, the I am.. people around here don't usually talk like that, so be yourself, alright?
" He put his arm around her kissing her passionately before letting her go, "...I love you Donna." He stated his body leaning against the wall as he watched her leave their balcony.

High in the sky, there she flew! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? NO! Its WONDER WOMAN! The pride of
Themyscira
, and the Amazons! She came to America to protect us against the ruthless Nazi's and the Axis powers! Here she is now, under the guise of Donna Troy, part time super model, wife, and super hero! An ambassador to us all here in the states and man's world! With boots and cape fashioned by Hermes himself, with the lightning quick powers of Apollo, daughter of Queen Hippolyta! Her strength matches that of Hercules himself! Favored by Hera, herself there she goes, with her lasso of truth crafted by Zeus, given to his favorite Amazonian Princess!

"Officers, I believe this belongs to you, caught this man trying to murder the innocents on the Brooklyn Bridge." She nodded to them as they took the criminals in. Turning around her eyes as sharp as a Hawk, looked around New York as she flew up, a car jacking in progress, a mugging as well, "and the night is just beginning," she stated to herself flying off into the night.

One might ask, who is this... Wonder Woman, she's certainly not the same girl, or is she? The citizens of New York didn't seem to care, they had a hero! More than that, she was here to stay! Unfortunately... a few foes were rising to challenge her might, her power! Who could they be?

"Uuugghh..." Jordan feels for something to hold on to, his head aching as if a bomb had just gone off inside it, as he slowly pries his eyes open.

The light invades the lenses of his mask and he reels from the brightness. His body hurts, all of it. That's when he remembers what he's doing.

"GAH!" Jordan shouts as he instinctively flips over onto his back and creates a bright green protective bubble around himself, preparing for a blow that never comes.

Reluctantly, Hal lets the bubble fade. "Ring? *cough*. Where is Despero?" Hal speaks, his voice soar and rough.

No traces of fugitive ID: Despero in vicinity.

"Damnit. He got away." Hal curses to himself as he gets to his feet. "Energy levels?"

Ring energy levels at 4%. Recharge is strongly advised.

Hal rubs his temple, resting against a large piece of rubble, as he finally begins to come to. Looking around, he finds himself speechless.

"Wha....no." he can't believe it. He won't believe it. This isn't true.

He hardly recognizes the place he's standing in, but he knows what it is. Again and again he denies it. As if saying no often enough will somehow change it. But it doesn't change.

With a magnificent blast, he propels himself up into the sky, a green streak across the heavens. Hal Jordan looks back down at his home. At Coast City.

yellow_zone.jpg

"NO!" he screams at the top of his lungs.

What happened? What is this? Who did this? Is this his fault?

Hal Jordan feels his body go weak with rage. With sorrow. Everyone he's ever known, ever loved. They all lived in Coast City.

Ring energy at 3%. Recharge is strongly advised. Recharge is strongly advised. Recharge is strongly advised.

Hal can't even hear the ring's message. He feels like his senses have all shut down.

Recharge is strongly advised. Incoming Threat. Incoming Threat. Incoming Threat.

He doesn't even see the brilliant green light hurtling towards him, finally making contact. As if he was hit by a building, Hal is thrown clear across the city, finally smashing into the ground with the force of a bomb.

His ring screams at him that there is no power left. No energy. It is at 0%. Hal feels two of his ribs crack. His leg is sprained. He can't feel his arms. And the mangled voice calling at him obviously takes great joy in that.

"NOw nOw NOW, wE hAvE a ViSiToR in OUr LoVELy LiTtLE toWN?"

"Choose one. Choose the second."
"Now now, Batman. Did you think that's my only method of hurting someone? Tsk tsk."

Zsasz licked the blood from his lips, a crimson stained smile shining in the dim light. The killer jumped at the vigilante, blood spraying from not only his wounded jaw, but another wound. A small tally mark on his arm, minutes fresh was still dripping the red liquid.

The sudden lunge was unexpected, but not more so than the sound that came with it. Almost faster than the eye could trace his movement, Zsasz pulled something from his boot.

*shink*

Zsasz simultaneously delivered a hard boot to Batman's chest and flicked his switchblade across the man's cheek, drawing a thin trail of blood across the fair skin. Nimbly, Zsasz leaped backward. Grinning maliciously, he licked the blade.

"Mmm. Tangy. You know Batty, you should thank me for this one."

Zsasz pointed to the red tally on his arm, the one running a small trickle of blood.

"He was a common rapist. Had the misfortune of being put in my cell. His soul was cleansed by my blade, he'll find his place now, he wouldn't have before."

Hal Jordan looks up at the man standing over him. The man who looks, oddly enough, almost identical to Jordan himself.
A wicked smile comes across the man's face as Hal writhes in pain.

382098-178789-parallax_super.jpg

"THaT's qUiTE An INTerEstiNg unIfoRm yoU HaVe oN." the man muses to Hal, his voice mangled almost to the point where Jordan can't understand a single word he says.

"Who...who the hell are you?" Jordan croaks, his arm draped across his ribs.

To Hal's surprise, his attacked begins laughing maniacally. The laughter is cold and evil, almost monstrous in sound. The man extends his hand toward Hal, and from his fingertips shoot forth several bright-green chains. Like snakes, they wrap themselves around Hal's arms and legs, and he screams out in pain as they jerk him up, bringing him to eye-level with Hal's apparent clone.
Is this man a Green Lantern? Hal thinks to himself in between grunts of pain.

"hoW fuNNy! IF yoU'RE iN cOaST CitY, tHEN yOU MuSt kNOW WhO i AM!"
the man screeches, amused. Until he sees the look of determined confusion on Hal's face, when he realizes his prisoner actually has no idea who he is. "OH, ReALLY noW?"

"i SUpPOse I caN MakE An iNTroDucTioN. I aM THE IMPURITY."
he announces proudly, almost like he's in front of an audience.

"Y...You did this...I...I'll kill..you." Hal wheezes, the pain becoming overbearing.

Again the monster laughs. "YOu REallY ArE FuNnY. BUT I mUsT sAy....YoU dO lOoK aWfUlLy FaMiLiAr..." the Impurity, whoever that was, said as he pulled Hal's face closer to his own. For a split second, it seemed as if the Impurity was shocked, dumbfound even. And for a moment, the man's eyes wandered downwards. Hal knew that look. The Impurity was listening to something. A Lantern ring? Another kind of ring?

Hal could barely think straight.

Soon, the look of confusion and concentration on the Impurity's face became a hideous smile.

295173-10323-parallax_super.jpg

"OH, ReALLy? aN aLtErNaTe EaRtH? HoW INTerEStinG..." he said, truly amused. The schorching, emerald chains binding Hal began to slowly shift, as they soon became actual snakes. Vipers that crawled the meet on his chest, merging into a massive snake that slithered up and wrapped itself around Hal's neck, completely cutting off his air supply. "I'Ve KiLLeD JUSt AbOUt EvERyOnE I WaNT tO...KiLLiNg MySeLF SeEms ThE lOgiCal NexT StEp.." the maniac cackled, as Hal Jordan felt himself slip. His body went limp, his eyes rolled up in his head, and he felt nothing but cold.

Suddenly, he dropped to the ground. The snake was no longer choking the life out of him, and he could feel blood continue to circulate through his body. What the hell had happened?

Hal hit the ground hard. Nontheless, he raised himself to a seating position, looking up at what miracle had saved him. He had seen this one before. Not in person, note, but everyone had seen this one.

Watching and scouring over this strange new Earth, it had taken only mere moments before Superman found a strange sight. Within one of the sickeningly decimated cities that were scattered in frightening numbers around the globe, two men were fighting, or rather one man was fighting while the other was dying. The means by which the would-be killer was using to assault his opponent were quite interesting; some sort of green energy used to make solid shapes. The reporter inside Clark couldn't help but be impressed and think well, isn't that something else, but that didn't stop him from knowing exactly what he had to do.

He had to put a stop to this.

With a precise narrow blast of high intensity heat vision, the energy serpent suddenly had a clean hole clear through its head. From the smoking hole, cracks quickly spider-webbed all around the creature until it finally shattered like glass into countless pieces. As all of the emerald shards fell to the ground and faded from existence, the Man of Steel looked sternly at the Impurity.

"Leave that man alone."

Hal Jordan, with all the strength he had left in his body, got to his knees. He supported his weight with both hands on the ground, but even then, he shook violently.

"S...Super..Man." Jordan croaked, as the being Hal knew to be the Last Son of Krypton hovered in front of him, his hand extended to Jordan.

He reached out with one hand to grab Superman's. All of a sudden a large, green sledgehammer slammed into Superman's side. The Kryptonian flew through the air and smashed into the side of a destroyed building, wrecking it even further.

"WEll WeLL, AnOtHeR VIsITor FrOm 'ALTerNaTe EarTh'? NO mATTerrrr.." The Impurity growled, it's razor sharp teeth adding more menace to each word. "THe ImPURity KnOWs HOw tO eNTerTain iT'S guESTS."

Raising his hands into the air, The Impurity conjured forth a massive axe. Swinging it wildly, the maniac cackled as he brought it down towards Hal, who ducked under a pile of rubble. The emerald weapon made contact with the broken pieces of cement, all but eradicating them.

"I...suggest you look up, buddy." Hal said and smiled.

I don't even have the chance to move before he's dropped me with the kick. Didn't even see him perpetrate the facial wound, either, but it already stings by the time I hit the ground. Whoever he is, he's not only skilled... he's fast. Given his obvious lust for murder ontop of that, I can't comprehend how he ended up here, and not Arkham. But admittedly, it's come to a point that nothing surprises me about these madmen anymore - they've all got a game to play with society... with millions of casualties simply being another part of it.

And the point hits home, that until Gotham is rid of the corrupt... the only thing standing between them and that apocalyptic end is me. Wonderful.

As the killer prowls closer, I twist my leg and push, arcing myself off of the ground and backhanding him with a spinning punch. It does minimal damage, but it was a move never intended for long-term pain... only a simple daze, leaving the opponent winded for just the right moment of a far greater attack. Which I implement, as I kick off of the wall, and spin back towards him, sending a hard jab to his abdominals.

He writhes back, in pain... but even so, I notice there's a demented smile on his face. No matter what I do to him, or how hard I attack, he takes pleasure out of the pain. The prime example of masochistic evil, similar to suicide bombers and sexually based serial killers. They live for the opression to their ways... making them crave the fatal outcome even more. His kind of evil is something I've prepared for and studied for... but never entirely grasped. How a man could ever want pain, even desire it is beyond any logical comprehension I've ever known.

I don't care. If he wants pain... I'll be more than glad to deliver.

Batman15.jpg

Running after him, it isn't long before the killer comes at me again... both predictably and surprisingly more aggressive than before. I duck his slash, grab his kick, and spin him around, locking my arm with his. A simple twist, and a sickening crack errupts near the location of the scapula. Meaning, quite literally, the bone that connects his neck and shoulder. Needless to say, his following scream of pain is not at all surprising. Let's see him take some demented form of pleasure out of that.

"It was never your place to decide who lives or dies!", I growl into his ear, pressing the wound as hard as I can. "Those 'marks' of your's had families. Some had hopes. Some had dreams. Taking that away from them doesn't make you a saint... it makes you scum."

With a nudge of my shoulder, I force him into the wall. Too dizzied to get the cuffs out of my belt... I'll have to keep him subdued until it passes. By any means nessecary.

"Now stop struggling."

At Green Lantern's words, the Impurity instinctively turned to look up and over his shoulder, only to be met with the sight of a very annoyed Man of Steel rushing towards him faster than the villain could raise anything more than his basic defenses.

clark018tx0.jpg

"I said..." with the force of a launching rocket, Superman hammered his shoulder into the Impurity, just as his high school football coach had taught him to do out on the field. He could hear the air being forced out of the monster's lungs as its eyes went wide in pain and shock. "...Leave him alone."

As the Impurity gasped for air, he dropped to the ground, coughing and wheezing. Superman floated above him with his arms crossed over his chest, not enjoying the situation in the least. It seemed like only seconds before the green glowing shape of a man stopped trying to catch its breath and stood tall again, seemingly fully recovered from the surprise attack.

"Would you care to explain to me exactly what's going on here?" Clark said, his eyes wandering from Hal to the Impurity and noticing they're uncanny resemblance.

"Here's a ****ing brilliant idea. You have the jump on me, so you hit him once on the nose and knock my gun away, instead of laying me out in one. Just how thick are you?" Black Mask screamed "And another thing...did you think I'd only have the one gun?"

From his jacket he pulled two Beretta 93R's and started firing the machine gun pistols at the young heroine.

"Guns beat crazy vigilante women, mmmkay?"

Hal clutched his side as he brought himself into a seating position, and looked up at Superman.

The Last Son of Krypton...He really was as impressive as they said.

"I'm Green Lantern of Sector 2814. Hal Jordan..." Hal gasped in between grunts. "...I was in pursuit of a murderer...Despero. All I remember is that eye...it was glowing. Next thing I know...I ended up here." Jordan said, as he heard the sound of the Impurity standing back up.

"I don't know what the hell's going on any more than you do, Superman. And if you know what a Green Lantern is, you know I'm not going to be much help if I don't recharge my ring."

Hal got up and slowly limped over to a building that had gotten a majority of it blown off. Slumping down against the crumbling wall of the structure, he called over to the Man of Steel. "Stall him."

Hal began to use what little energy the ring always stored in emergencies such as this to open up the dimensional rift GLs would store their power batteries in, but was distracted by the cold laugh of the Impurity.

"HaHAhAhAAhAHaHa! SUcH BAd MaNNErS!" he cackled as he began to levitate. Rising higher and higher into the air, the green aura around him began to transform into torrents of emerald fire. With no warning, he lunged at Superman.

A mind-boggling amount of bright green daggers appeared, perfectly aligned, floating in mid-air between the Impurity and the Man of Steel. The knives began to fly at breakneck speeds at Superman, the monster following close behind.

MartianManhunter-6.jpg

J'onn J'onnz silently floated above New York as he scanned the entire city for anything he might recognize. But the longer he searched the more hopeless he felt.
On Mars, scientists had theorized about alternate Ma'aleca'andra existing in some parallel universe. But it seemed their theories were correct.

It was the only explanation. No time had passed, and this was the true Earth. It was in no way, shape, of form a fake.

But it was not his Earth.

J'onn turned invisible as he touched down on a nearby rooftop. The entire city seemed in a state of dissary. Building were either destroyed or delapidated. People seemed more like living zombies, walking about aimlessly in their grim.

[BLACKOUT]"Magnificent, isn't it?"[/BLACKOUT]

J'onn turned to see - himself? - standing across from him on the rooftop.

"By-"

[BLACKOUT]"-H'ronmeer?"[/BLACKOUT]

J'onn was afraid of this. Given the shape of the city, the gory statue of Wonder Woman...his counterpart's white skin.

This planet was like a mirror image of his world. It was the only explanation. And that would make all of the heroes he knew...

[BLACKOUT]"Villains? I must say, interesting theory"[/BLACKOUT], chuckled the White Martian as he flashed a fang-filled grin.

[BLACKOUT]"But, if your thoughts are true, and you are from a parallel world"[/BLACKOUT], continued the Martian, [BLACKOUT]"then I'm going to have fun studying your corpse."[/BLACKOUT]

The White Martian's shape twisted and shifted, eventually taking on a more primal appearance.

Whitey-1.jpg

[BLACKOUT]"So, what do they call you? Your "code name"?"[/BLACKOUT]

J'onn did not reply. The Martian Manhunter stood perfectly still as he measured up his opponent, ready for the inevitable struggle.

[BLACKOUT]"They call me the Martian Manslayer, a moniker I try to live up to. But, I've been known to murder Martians as well."

"Especially green-skinned cockroaches such as you"[/BLACKOUT]
, sneered the Manslayer.
The Martian Manslayer lept at J'onn, his claws extended to rend the hero's flesh...

In a flurry of punches and backhanding, dozens of the emerald blades were shattered and smashed to pieces as Clark flew through the air, coming head-on toward the Impurity. As many of the knives found their way passed his volley of hits and tore through his uniform in a number of places, Superman destroyed more of the energy weapons with heavy blasts of heat vision.

And then the fist of the Impurity slammed into his head. The villain had created a pair of heavily armored gloves with numerous spikes adorning their knuckles and began trying to cave Superman's head in. "You fOol! yOu kNow NotHInG of My pOweR?!" laughed the villainous double of Hal Jordan. "mY veRY thOUghTs arE MAniFesTEd AS yOUr woRsT nIghtMaREs!"

Thoughts?

With the next swing of one of his armored fists, the Impurity hit only air, as the Man of Steel had apparently vanished. A simple soft tap on his shoulder let the Impurity know Superman's new location. As he turned to see the hero, only the energy shield around him saved the Impurity from any number of broken bones in his face as Superman's fist connected with the villain's nose and sent him hurling backward.

"I've X-ray'd you, and I've seen that, despite the vast power you seem to wield, you're still human at the core," said Superman as the Impurity flew back. "Your powers work at the speed of thought." The careening body of the Impurity suddenly came to an abrupt stop as Superman appeared behind him and caught him in midair. "I can move a lot faster than human thought. Just thought I'd let you know."

The villain seemed unimpressed and quite infuriated at his current humiliation, it seemed, as an explosion of green energy emanated from his being, forcing Superman away.

"Alright. I've had just about enough of this."

The green energy, so bright and majestic in the hands of the Green Lanterns, but somehow twisted and sinister when wielded by the Impurity, exploded in every direction. The Man of Steel was thrown off balance, and plummeted to the ground. As Superman prepared to crash into the concrete, he suddenly found himself caught in something soft and warm instead. A gigantic, green baseball glove.

*Ring energy at 100%*

"Hey, handsome."
Hal called out to the Impurity, who turned to face his formerly weak target.

"WHaT!?" snarled the Impurity, shocked at the sight before him.

pjalex13bp4.jpg

"Catch." Hal smiled as he threw a ton of emerald bricks at the villain.

The Impurity raised what defenses he could, but they were soon reduced to mere sparks of green under Hal's attack. Pressing the attack, Hal conjured forth a large, round bomb that looked like it was taken straight out of a cartoon. As the bomb hovered inches away from the villain's chest, Hal turned to Superman.

"If you'd be so kind, Superman."

Superman was even faster than Hal had imagined. Immediately the Man of Steel's eyes lit up, as beams of unimaginable heat were shot at the Impurity. Hal could feel the heat even through his protective shield. He didn't know whether to be impressed or frightened.
In no time, the beams of heat vision struck the bomb, causing a massive explosion of emerald energy.

"AAaAaAaaaAAAaARrRrRRGgGGHHhHHHH!!!" the monster screamed out in pain, as green smoke engulfed him, slowly trailing off him and into the sky, before disappearing.

"I...*cough* I DOn'T CaRE HoW MANy oF YOu ThERe ArE. I'LL KILL YOU ALL!" he lashed out, his voice filled with unspeakable rage, as two monsters from the bowels of hell appeared in front of the two heroes. They looked like dragons, massive reptilian creatures with gigantic wings and teeth that could snap a tree in half, the two beasts standing before Hal and Superman, more than four times the men's size.

For a moment the two heroes stood silently, stunned, looking up at the challenge before them.

"Last to finish is a rotten egg." he said, cracking a smile, as the two darted up in to the air.

"Only half the time..." I said ducking beneath the gunfire, and kicking both guns out of his hands from underneath simultaneously with both legs.

He has to run out of guns sometime soon. Doesn't he?

He tumbled over a little, but not enough to fall down, which is too bad. I could of used the advantage. But no matter. I'll beat him. He won't win tonight...he won't win ever.

With my staff in hand, I had landed one swift jab into his chest with the blunt end, before swinging it like a bat (a baseball bat, not the Batman-type bat) to the side of his temple.

"You were saying?"

The two heroes were blurs of motion as they zipped around the monstrosities; one a blur of glowing green, and the other a mix of blue and red. Each hero was lashing out their own offensive blasts of energy as they dodged and weaved away from the monsters' snapping jaws. It wasn't long before his beams of heat vision had finally began to crack the creature's hide and Superman pulled back his fist to let loose a final punch. With an echoing snap, his punch shattered the monster into any number of hurling shrapnel fragments that faded from existence microseconds after the blow from the Man of Steel.

As the Green Lantern dealt with the monster that he was squaring off against in his own way, Superman looked around the scene and saw that the Impurity was nowhere in sight.

"Gone."

Hal Jordan was nothing more than an emerald streak against the sky, as he soared above the monster created by the Impurity. Launching himself downward, he knew there was little time for showing off. Extending his hand, he shot a thick beam out towards the monster. Striking it in the eye, the beast reeled in pain. Quickly, he flew down underneath it, dealing several shots to it's entire structure on the way down.

Finally Hal had begun seeing the cracks in the monster's visage. It meant two things, either the Impurity didn't have his mind in the constructs, or he had left, leaving the heroes to deal with the beasts.

Gritting his teeth, Hal closed his eyes as he picked up speed, ramming himself into the thick wall-like hide of the construct. With a loud smash, the once living monster was reduced to nothing but emerald glass that rained down onto the ground, before finally fading away into nothing.

"Gone."

Jordan flew over to the Man of Steel, whose grim tone confirmed his worry. "Yeah, figured as much." he stated, the two heroes staring off into the distance.

Hal then turned to Superman, extending a hand covered in green energy. "I'm Hal Jordan, Green Lantern. Thanks for the help back there."

After one more brief moment of scanning the area for the Impurity, Clark finally turned to Green Lantern and smiled as he shook his hand. "Pleased to meet you, Hal. I'm Superman."

Stepping back, both heroes gazed out across the ruins around them that was once a city. "The things that the Impurity said... the fact that he looked just like you... you're from a different Earth too, right? And he was just the alternate version of you from this parallel world." Putting his hands at his hips, Clark sighed and shook his head. "There are more of us here; more heroes from our Earth that have been taken here against our will. I can feel it." Looking back up to the skies, he whispered; "Despero."

Hal nodded while Superman talked of alternate versions and parallel worlds, even though he could barely wrap his head around it. But he wasn't about to look like an idiot in front of Superman, that much he knew.

Hal was filled with a sense of dread when he heard the Kryptonian whisper Despero's name. Of course, it had to be. "You're after him, too? Despero is a fugitive from the Green Lantern Corps. He escaped our custody, killed good men in the process." Hal said bitterly, bringing his clenched fist up so the glowing ring could be seen. "We don't take too kindly to that."

Superman nodded in understanding, as the two began to rise higher into the sky. Everywhere around them was destruction. Hal didn't know if the entirety of this alternate Earth looked like this, but the Impurity had completely anihilated Coast City. The thought of all the lives lost angered Hal immensely.

"You say there're others out there? From our world? We should go find them. We're obviously going to need all the help we can get." Hal said, the two heroes heading off into the distance. Suddenly, a horrifying thought came to him. "Wait. If Mr. Tall, green and handsome over there was an alternate version of me, does that mean you have en evil twin running around here somewhere, too?" Hal asked, the thought of someone with Superman's powers using it for evil sending a chill running up his spine.
