IC Max Dillon: Electro
Season II - Part Fourteen
Charles Xavier sat in a medical room within his mansion looking at the body of Max Dillon, who was sprawled out on an operating able in front of him, completely unconscious. No operations would be necessary however.
Charles had been sitting there, staring at this terrible man, for the better part of an hour. He had already ascertained (through a thorough examination of Dillon's mind) that Dillon was indeed a mutant. He was also a very unique case.
Max Dillon had lived his life without being detected as a mutant because before very recently, he wasn't. He was a normal human. But when Justin Hammer genetically altered him (giving him his electric powers), he awoke a dormant healing ability that Max possessed. A mutant ability.
Charles felt that this raised some very interesting questions. Could it be that more people, perhaps all people are born with a mutation... but only some are activated? Could it be that mutants are more common... more normal... than previously thought? Charles longed to study this phenomenon... longer to comprehend it on every level... but he knew he didn't have time. Soon, SHEILD would be coming to collect their prisoner. Soon... Max Dillon might be dead.
While probing Dillon's mind (something Charles usually would not do without permission), Charles learned that Hammer's gentic tampering had not only activated Dillon's ability, but altered it. It was not seeking to purge every part of Dillion... including the parts that kept him alive. Charles knew he could prevent this. Due to the strange nature of Dillon's ability, Charles had the power to shut down it down with his telepathy. He could... but would he? Was it his place? Could he 'play God'? On the other hand, however, could he do nothing? Could he let a man die?
"Professor, the phone is for you..." A young student said. She covered the receiver and added, "It's Nick Fury."
Charles took a deep breath before taking the phone. "Thank you." He said, as the student left the room. Then he spoke into the receiver.
"Charles Xavier."
"Hello professor Xavier, this is Colonel Nick Fury."
"Good afternoon."
"Good afternoon to you. I assume you know what the purpose of this call is?"
"I believe I do. You are calling in regards to a young man by the name of Max Dillon, are you not?"
"Indeed I am Professor. Dillion is a wanted man... exclusive SHEILD property... and I am sending a team out to your mansion to collect him."
"I understand. Perhaps you could grant me but a few short hours with the boy. He is experiencing some--"
"Look Xavier, that boy is mine. I don't appreciate the way in which you took the law into your own hands today, and I certainly do not appreciate that one of your colleagues attacked and wounded several of my operatives today, including Captain America!"
Charles was not sure how to respond to that.
"I am willing to overlook that... for now. I'm not interested in starting a war. But I've got my eye on you Xavier, and my men are coming to collect that boy, no questions asked. Fury out."
Charles hung up the phone in exasperation. He had a very hard choice to make, and not much time to do it in. Save a life, or play God?
