World The Ultimate Spider-Man Animated Series Discussion Thread - Part 2

I absolutely love the 90s series, though I think SSM is better.

Spectacular Spider-Man is easily the pinnacle of Spider-Man cartoons. Not everyone might be a fan of the art, but it was just fantastically written, with wonderful characters and great action. And Ultimate Spider-Man basically shows us all the things you can get wrong with a Spider-Man cartoon. I'm not even talking about the 4th wall breaking or bad humor, but the core of the character. Which is the theme of responsibility. And Ultimate Cartoon Spider-Man, is the most irresponsible portrayal of the character that I've ever seen.

I really can't stand how stupid Spider-Man's portrayal is in USM. Its really insulting.

My life doesn't depend on it, and it's a free open forum. You and others trash the show as if your life depends on it.

Shikamaru is devastated he doesn't get to wake up and find the show is dead.
Parker is wishing death on the show.

I'm not talking about life and death bigdaddy, the haters are. Also, I never insulted anyone.

The reason I compared you to strugler is because your posts and style read very similar. I wasn't sure if it was an alternate handle or not. Thanks for clarifying that for me.

Interesting analysis coming from the guy who always seems to be here when anyone trashes the show.

I went to the Disney store, and they were screening the first episode to USM. Its so awful. But there is one good thing coming out of it... its getting younger viewers interested in Spider-Man. So perhaps one day they will pick up a comic book and really come to appreciate the TRUE Spider-Man and get to know what Peter Parker's life is all about.

Dude the X-Men The Animated Series got me in to comics as a kid and that show didn't talk down to me and it was true to the X-Men.

That show was mature and serial and I understood everything as a child.

That's why up to this day they are my favorite characters and my favorite world in comics even if they share the Marvel universe.

Yes, I understand that. I'm not defending USM on any level. I am just pointing out that it is creating a new generation of Spider-Man fans.

I find that to be a poor argument. Any Spider-Man show regardless of its quality or rating is going to get kids into Spider-Man. Little kids like anything you put on TV for them.

USM is a disney show that appeals to kids more than the 90s or SSM series.

most kids are stupid and like anything. 90's SSM USM wouldn't matter. Any of them work.

True, but I think the fact that this airs on Disney XD gives it an advantage.

How long do you think this show will last? My worry is that now this cartoon will forever be the Spider-Man we get in animation, since Marvel is trying so hard to fit it into the rest of the Marvel Universe.

I like the show so I am hoping for 5-6 more seasons.... realistically.... 2 more then they will revamp a more like the movies version just to try and ride off Sony's version.

5-6 more seasons? That would be so cruel. I despise the series, and hope it ends after season 3. Does anyone know how the show is doing in terms of ratings? I'm sure Disney is aware of how criticized it is.

When I first heard there was an USM show in the making, and Bryan Michael Bendis was joining as one of the writers, I was really excited. I thought they were doing an adaption of the USM comic book series. But instead, we get this show instead.

I demand a new Spidey animated series! Heck, what about DTV movie (unrelated to USM)?

About 609000 views I think it was released not to long ago

I don't think it does. No offense, but I think that is an insult to kids. Kids are able to handle a lot more stuff than just bad puns, silly dialogue, and loud noises. History itself proves that kids can handle more serious things. Batman TAS and JLU completely make this show look pale in comparison when it comes to their ratings (back when they were on TV, that is). They were still kids shows aimed at kids that aired on a kids network (that's not to say that this show is doing bad in ratings (sadly :csad:) but I digress). They left behind a far bigger legacy than this show will. Same with Spider-Man TAS. Do you really think kids would have had higher chances of getting into Batman if Batman TAS was as dumbed down as this show is?

Plus, what exactly do you mean by "kids"? The kids age ranges from about 3 to 13. USM appeals to maximum 6/7 year olds at best. Shows like Spider-Man TAS and TSSM appealed to that age group and the slightly higher pre-teen age group, as well as the teen age group.

True, but I think the fact that this airs on Disney XD gives it an advantage.

How so? Though they're starting to catch up, Disney XD's average ratings are not as high as those on Cartoon Network and Nicktoons. Having a Spidey show on Disney XD is by no means a disadvantage but it is not some kind of advantage either.

If they are aware of it, does it matter? The show is obviously doing well or they would not have ordered another third seasons. They must be happy with merchandise and sales the show is generating now.

Most of the criticism comes from bitter, whiny internet fans who are loud but not the majority and not numerous. Obviously more people love the show than hate it, and that's what matters to Disney not bitter complainers that like to hate everything.

It's inevitable more animation will get made sooner or later. But for now, its Ultimate Spider-Man. Your demands don't change it.

I like how you list facts such as "obviously most people like it" out of thin air with no solid evidence to back them up.

I've noticed a pattern with your posts. Whenever I or someone else writes a long detailed post explaining all the flaws the show has, you reply with a short "you're wrong" message with nothing to back your argument up. It is almost as if you are trying to ignore any valid criticisms and pretend as if they don't exist :whatever:. And with that (naturally) comes the poor and desperate "ur just a hater!" argument.

Sorry to break it to ya, but you're not fooling anyone.

Show just got renewed for a third season and is continuing. Last year it was the #1 animated show in the key demos for Disney XD. Obviously the show is doing well and is a success. Success speaks for itself.

USM is not a bad show only it portrays spiderman in weird way more like Deadpool version of spiderman .
The animation quality is also good and more appealing than Spectacular spiderman maybe that's why its taking liking by GA .
I was hoping we could get a Deadpool Animated series in this style .

True, but I think the fact that this airs on Disney XD gives it an advantage.

You could have it be a Disney Show and still make it more mature.

You don't talk down to kids in Disney movies. Why should Disney cartoons be any different?
