So we're getting another season,.. interesting, saw the sneak peek with Ant-Man we'll see how it turns out. And yeah Spider-Goblin was a nightmare:eek:

To be honest if the show had less 4th wall breaking and less focus on other heros it'd be sweet.

Ratings for this show are poor, I wonder if the crew behind it are serious in thinking it's successful enough to keep going.

But the merchandise sales are through the roof. That is the number one concern.

Beware the Batman had average ratings, but if it was pumping out merchandise and a successful toyline... we'd be watching season two right now.

Link? I was under the impression the ratings were good. I guess maybe there was a drop off with season 3.

Yeah, this. Doesn't really matter in the end if the show is not getting supreme ratings as long as the profit is still there with merchandising. Dollars = success.

What helps what?
Story serves the merchandise? Or the other way around.

I'm going by wikipedia's list of number of viewers.

Disney has picked USM for another season vs. the New Sinister 6, verrry interesting

Told you... it's all about those important merchandise sales. This show is supposedly making a killing on the toy shelves.

I don't really find this news surprising. Like Pfeiffer had stated, the sales for the show have been very good and until Aziz posted that little thing about the ratings, it seemed those were really good also. Not sure why they wouldn't continue on something that is successful. By success, I mean earning money.

It's disheartening. At one point it sounded like Marvel Animation wanted to go in another direction and make something that was less "dumbed down" (for lack of a better term) for kids.

I hope this does not carry over to the MCU when deciding on a style and tone for Spider-Man... :csad:

Yeah, I feel ya. Disheartening.

I wouldn't worry too much about the tone from the animation crossing over into the Spidey film. They're separate divisions. I mean look at the Avengers movies, CA:TWS, IM3, etc. those aren't anywhere near as awful as the Avengers Assemble cartoon. I'm sure that trend will continue.

very disappointing news that this piece of s**t gets renewed... I guess since they're not going for the Sinister Six live-action film, they've gotta go THIS route... meh...

Yup. As a Spider-Man collector myself, it's really hard to avoid Ultimate Spider-Man merchandise at this point. I'm totally guilty of buying some of the merchandise from this series, because a lot of it looks good (I have to admit). I've also received quite a few gifts over the past couple of years that are from the show.

Like I said, it's really hard to not buy the merch from this series. It's everywhere, and it totally dominates any other Spider-Man merch I've seen over the past few years.

The USM merchandise is pretty much the ONLY stuff for sale on any of the store shelves these days. Doesn't matter if it's figures, shirts, towels, toothbrushes, cups, etc., it's everywhere. Which I guess in turn helps the sale of the items, cause it is so accessible. If you want something outside of that merchandise gotta go online, obviously. I've gotten a couple of things from family members/friends from the USM line...I like what I have gotten but it is a bittersweet thing 'cause I know the sales are supporting this show.

Well this is better than their Sinister six idea lol.

I'm glad I'm not a betting man, because there is no way I could have predicted that this show would be not only the longest running Spider-man 'toon ever, but also the longest running Marvel 'toon ever in terms of total number of episodes.

You're correct. I didn't know that products could influence the fate of a cartoon like this, but when Josh Keaton said that Green Lantern:TAS got cancelled because there were no product tie-ins being sold, I learned the harsh reality that fan reaction and ratings take a back seat to the cash register. I'm not surprised that this show is making so much money because its products own the toy aisles in every department store these days.

Think about this: it's possible that this show might end up having more total episodes than any other super hero cartoon in American history. Superfriends had 109 episodes, and if there is a USM season 5, it will eclipse that. That boggles my mind.

I bought several of the Titan Hero Spider-man figures in the various costumes that were produced. I've only watched about 1/3 of the episodes of the show and the figures have the basic 5 POA, which is a huge turn-off for me. So why do I buy the show's merch? Because it's Spider-man. We're just as powerless to stop ourselves as you are.

Agreed I mean who would've thunk it. Lol

Bittersweet is the perfect way to describe it. At least the merch looks good though, right? I dislike the show, but the animation and character designs are at least really nice to look at, so the merch looks good. The stuff I do own is well-made, too. It's quality stuff.

There have been quite a few wonderful animated shows that have gotten the boot because the toys didn't sell. Spectacular Spider-Man and the Thundercats reboot (which was fan-freaking-tastic, if I do say so myself) are the most tragic and upsetting casualties for me. :csad:
