The Wachowskis Returning to Sci-Fi with Jupiter Ascending - Part 1

If you guys want to discuss the finer points of the Matrix Trilogy, go into a Matrix thread or a Matrix forum.

This is a Jupiter Ascending thread.

Can we please just nuke this thread now?
We should just nuke Max. Though he is quite entertaining.

I don't care what none of ya'll say.

This Redmayne fellow is a bad actor.

What are you talking about?

A mod happened to think that my description of The Matrix Revolutions was hyperbolic.

How does that equate to me being "incapable of reasonable conversation"?

That's like a racist saying, "I didn't used to be racist. So it's cool for me to kill black people."

What do you want? A cookie?

I can see that now.

You're clearly intent on trolling like a hyper-active toddler, so I'm no longer going to waste my energy in trying to engage you.

Troll away.

And before the likes of Leo or Gary Oldman.

Take that with you.
He is going to get it while being nominated with Cumberbatch and Keaton. Both who did better work in their respective roles imo.

This thread has reached a snark critical mass.

In other news, I re-watched Reloaded after watching JA, first time in a long time. I do enjoy me some Reloaded. It really explodes the world of the first movie in a bunch of really cool directions, with tons of style. One thing I've really come to appreciate in both the first film and Reloaded is the editing. They've got a great rhythm to them editorially and just feel sharp. Reloaded does take a while to get started, and while I get the point of the rave scene, it's just too much. Once the movie gets going though, it's a great ride.

And yeah, I'm talking about The Matrix cause why not. Nobody seems down to have a serious discussion about Jupiter anyways.

Redmayne isn't a bad actor either, that's silly talk. He was great in The Pillars of The Earth.

The fight choreography in Reloaded is sublime. It makes me hate the fights in Rises ever more.

Have you actually seen him in anything besides Jupiter Ascending?
I think Redmanye is more then a bit overrated, but he is definitely good. But how many great actors have performances like this? Everyone is killing him for it.

The Burly Brawl is so damn good until they decide they needed to go full CGI. You never go full CGI.

...people continue to point out that it is a running theme with you.

Everyone states their opinions hyperbolically.

Point-for-point discussions, however, are an entirely different matter.

Christopher Nolan struggles with action.

But his action got better with each Batman film, reaching a personal apotheosis with Batman Vs. Bane.

I love that fight.

It's a good scene. It's just not a good fight scene.

The cinematography is good.

The stadium like art direction is grand.

Every word coming out of Bane is quotable.

The sound design and lack of music is brilliant.

But the choreography is laughably piss poor.

Theory of Everything
Les Miserables

I'm no fan of ham.

How can you say he's a bad actor after Theory of Everything? You can dislike him overall but that was a great performance.

Not to me.

I'm probably overreacting, he just does nothing for me... so far.

This film didn't help. Lawd.

"Bad' is a strong word. I take it back.

Eh.

I will say, being 16...seeing Reloaded for the first time in theaters. When the Burly Brawl happened, me and bunch of people literally stood up out of our seats for a minute. It was unlike anything you'd ever seen at the time, I just became overcome with giddiness. The full CG shots are definitely cringe-worthy, but I still have a ton of respect for Keanu learning move sequences that long and complex. Badass.

I'll always have a soft spot for the Matrix sequels because they came at a time when I was just coming into my own as a nerd/lover of pop culture and they kind of solidified for me just how much I loved movies and how much joy I could get out of the whole experience...anticipating them, getting into the hype, going to midnight showings, etc. Good times.

I wouldn't go that far. I do think that for 2003 the VFX were quite good.
And you're right. I wasn't disappointed with Reloaded although i will admit its flaws. Still wound up watching Reloaded about 15 times in the cinema :woot:
