The Wachowskis Returning to Sci-Fi with Jupiter Ascending - Part 1

So I finally got around to watching this film. I think the overall premise had real promise. The execution just left something to be desired. The pacing seemed really off, there could have been more world building and some of the action sequences could have been tightened up instead of dragging on. Speaking of the action sequences, some of them felt like rehashes of earlier action sequences. I didn't mind Channing or Mila in their roles - though their writing could have been a bit better. Loved Sean Bean (and the fact that he lived). Loved the visuals/special effects.

I might watch it again every now and then.

Oh, and I have to say that Balem's winged mooks (the lizard dudes?) really kind of make me wish that they would now do a live action Gargoyles film (you know, the cartoon tv show from the mid-late 90's) - clearly the technology is now there.

Just saw this film. Overall, pretty good. Not Star Wars or GOTG but still enjoyable.

A bit wacky and erratic, (and I loved the portrayal of galactic bureacracy), campy and OTT, but still fun.

If I had paid to see this in the cinema I wouldn't have been disappointed.

I can't understand the hate this film got, but then I enjoyed Speed Racer too.

I enjoyed Speed Racer too but for all it's attempts at originality, the story is VERY bad. But I agree, you could still have fun with it.

There was too much emphasis on world building and Jupiter Jones herself isn't that interesting. But I'm willing to give this one another shot.

I love it. It feels like a cheesy 1970's sci-fi film. I've gotten more enjoyment out of it than most sci-fi/fantasy of recent years.

I just genuinely love anything the Wachowskis put out, not as a blind fanboy, but because I seem to be on their frequency. Whatever they do, I'm tapped in 100% and I get it. All their concepts, philosophies, all the stuff they're into or are fans of, I'm right there with them. They'd be friends of mine.

I still think Jupiter would've succeeded as an anime. Take the exact same movie and animate it, and people would've eaten it up.
