FIRST LOOK AT THE GOVERNOR!!!

A little disappointed they changed his look, but maybe it'll work better for the show. Comic Governor was a scummy looking SOB from the start. This Governor looks like an average joe. Will probably make it even more disturbing to see what a monster he is.

Oh really? Ask and ye shall receive:

The Governor has arrived!

The third season of The Walking Dead will feature the introduction of one of the most formidable villains on the AMC series: The Governor (David Morrissey), a character from Robert Kirkman's graphic novels who is the vicious leader of Woodbury, a small settlement of survivors. TVGuide.com has the exclusive first look at The Governor, who also becomes one of Rick's (Andrew Lincoln) greatest foes in the comic series.

Walking Dead Postmortem: Which new character holds the key to the group's future?

"Seeing The Walking Dead come to life on AMC has been a real thrill for me, obviously, and moving into Season 3 I'm even more excited than ever because now I feel like we're really getting to 'the good stuff,'" Kirkman tells TVGuide.com. "Having The Governor in the mix is going to fundamentally change the show in all kinds of awesome and exiting ways. And David Morrissey totally rocks!"

For those worried that AMC might be a diluted version of the villain who went on to take something, ahem, very important away from Rick in the comics, fear not! "The Governor in the show is definitely going to be The Governor in the comic," Kirkman told us following the Season 2 finale. "I think that he's definitely going to be a character that people love to hate and are absolutely entertained by, but also somewhat terrified of. He's definitely going to be a very important character and a very nuanced character. We are not going to be watering him down."

Eh on not looking like in the comics but it'll suffice. Either way....:awesome:

I really wanted him to looks like the comic, but oh well. At least he looks like he'd be nice guy at first.

Not feeling the look of him but looks mean squat if the guy can pull off the role.

not that his look bothers me, but just adding a stache I think makes it look much better

I was just about to post something like that, because it does bother me. I'm ALL for changes, different mediums, all that jazz. But this really is lame. At the very least a stache/goatee would have been awesome. It really wouldn't surprise me if he didn't have a southern accent.

Only reason I can think for such a clean look is, we might see flashback of the character at times? Didn't they say he will be around 2 seasons, he could really let himself go and turn to what we have in the comics? Guess we need more context to go with the photo before I can say they really dropped the ball.

They gave him short hair and no facial hair. THEY'RE GOING TO CHANGE EVERYTHING!!!!

Well.....

Rick is not getting his hand cut off. No Tyrese. Dale is dead. Rick and Andrea's characterizations are changed quite a bit. So in a sense...they are changing quite a bit. Which is fine. I really have no problem with it because I enjoy the show and at the end of the day can always just read the books. Gov's look was just pretty iconic IMO. They very well may change him a lot. I just hope AT THE VERY LEAST we get the wall of heads.

I don't mind the change since the Governor's look in the comics really feels so villain-ish, here's more tone-down but I really like this ominous vibe I'm getting from the pic.

Not surprised at all. I never really saw them going for the comic look anyway. What I'm focused on is his performance in acting as a truly evil, sadistic **** who audiences will hate like we did when reading the comic. If he does that, then the mustache and hair won't even be an after thought.

From this picture, I can see it. Perhaps it's just easier to act without the mustache and hair. Or it just plain doesn't look good on him. If they tested it, or not, it was a gut reaction probably, or not much of a decision.

Good. Not watered down. I really want people to be shocked by what this man does.

Someone obviously didn't get the memo to the kid behind him that this is the post-apocalypse, not a trip to ****ing Hot Topic. :o

Yeah the Governor in the comics gives off the villain vibe right away. It's the handle bar mustache the audience immediately associates it with a bad guy.

Jason lee said his character earl from my name is earl was supposed to have a full on handle bar but he looked too much like a criminal when he tried it out.

Pic looks like they about to go exploring in Jurassic Park

Dish Network and AMC having problems again...So now I have a problem...AMC will be dropped on June 30th from Dish Network...starting today they moved the channel to a crappy distorted 9000 channel, doesn't look good...guess can watch shows online but...still

I was wondering what had happened to that channel, it sucks that it may be taken off but here is hoping the problem is resolved. They also screwed up another channel that watch sometimes IFC.:cmad:

He sure looks like a mean SOB.

do you guys think that they will do the whole repeated [BLACKOUT]rape of Michonne?[/BLACKOUT]?

I hope so, it will show the darkest part about the books.....that and some other things I want to see on the show.

That and
her revenge soon after.

Cause I really don't want them to shy away from that stuff. I mean if they can do other stuff that's just as bad but different than I'd be okay, which they could do.

I don't think either of those will be touched upon nearly as much as they should. Aside from the zombie violence the show has not really been that dark.

I mean compared to a show like Breaking Bad comparatively.
