I doubt they'll set an end date soon because it's still AMC's highest rated and most watched show.

As long as the 'dead' shows make money AMC will never cancel them. How AMC has treated their shows and the people who work on them has clearly shown they don't give a damn how the are viewed.

AMC isn't going wrap it up when it's still their most watched/highest rated show, plus the money they've made from merchandise. They renewed Lodge 49 and that has less than 500,000 viewers. TWD more than triples Better Call Saul's viewership. AMC won't give up that easily.

I’m glad ratings are tanking. I know it’s part of an overall trend with tv but after bringing Neegan on no board, this show started to really fall apart.

The problem wasn't Negan, the problem was them stretching out a storyline that could have been wrapped up in one season over two seasons. Now they're getting back on course a bit but it feels like it's too late.

The thing I can really, honestly say with 100 percent confidence is the show will not suffer because of the loss of Rick Grimes. He’s a great character, he’s an amazing actor, but I just I feel that as this show evolves, I just really don’t want people to feel that this departure signals the end of the show, because we have a tremendous amount of story to tell. Rick has been instrumental in telling a good portion of that story, but let’s be honest: We’ve had a lot of story that was told by Carol, we had a lot of story that was told by Glenn and Maggie, we had a lot of story that was told by Daryl, and Shane, and Lori. I feel very strongly that we still have a tremendous amount of story to tell with the great characters that we still have.

The show itself has become a metaphor. A ****ing zombie that refuses to die.

Everyone involved with the show seems quite cagey about Rick's fate, so it makes me wonder if they have some trick up their sleeve. I can't imagine what that could be, though.

That's not true. Zombies are very much easy to kill. You just take out the head. Once you do that, it's all over.

I quit watching this some time back but heard how they handled Rick's departure.

A cheap cop out move that is unsurprising given how many previous cheap cop out moments the show has had. That they did it again in what sounds like the most ridiculous way possible is why I'm glad I gave up on this show. He is flown away in a chopper like some kind of b-movie villian stunt? So Rick's final stand was more a limp away from the series only to return later.

The spoilers I read pointed out the many places where he could have died in this episode and it been meaningful.

It's called "The Walking Dead" but mostly feature people fighting people instead of trying to survive zombies in a dead world. The zombies only ever feature as background plot devices and occasional distractions when they remember zombies are the entire point of the series.

Anyhow the movie announcement also cheapens what little impact the episode ending was meant to bring.
