The Walking Dead The Walking Dead Season 5, Episode 2 "Strangers" Discussion Thread

I was glad to see Bob being made an impromptu dinner guest. He and Sasha's syrupy bull**** was getting on my nerves. Although, I didn't expect to see the Termies in the mix so soon again. I figured there'd be more Then/Now flashbacks to lay staging. Creepy and memorable moment with them scarfing down that Stookey shank steak as we were treated to the particulars of the World According to Gareth.

Something (else) is near certainly going to happen with Tyreese sparing the would-be necksnapper; like the walker that Carl taunted eventually making a late night snack out of Dale. I likely won't find it as awesome though because **** Dale.

I found Rick's near constant menacing of Father Gabriel to be hysterical.

There are a number of interesting storylines bubbling. I can already tell I'm going to be pissed at the wait for whatever is left unresolved at the midseason break.

Assuming Gabriel isn't hiding something – which he almost certainly is – it would be funny if Rick's treatment of him leads him to betray them all.

When Rick led his team to get the supplies this week, he was the only white person on the team, right? I don't recall any others on the mission.

The thing about "the next black to die" is kind of off the mark. People tend to hang out in their own circles. It sounds racist, but even now we see self segregation in social circles. When the zombie outbreak happened, people were likely in their normal circles. As the number of people dwindled and new groups were formed out of survivors, the diversity would increase because you just end up being friends with whoever you come across. Since the show followed a white group in a largely black area, it stands to reason that more black people would join in later.

But even now, some of the black characters are expendable. Could they be built into more later? Maybe. But at the moment, Bob is useless and Tyrese is a danger to everyone around him. Sasha is defined as "that expendable guy's girlfriend and the little sister of a guy who is incompetent." Maybe Sasha will become important to the show? I tend to doubt that Father Gabriel will. Morgan and Michonne are pretty important.

Then again, there are plenty of expendable white people that have come through the show as well.

What's this next in line talk? Attempt at being funny?

I wish people would get over it. It's not entirely accurate, anyway. Tyreese, Michonne and Sasha have been on the show for two seasons, and they're bring back Morgan into the show. If anything, it's white people that are dropping like flies on this show.

Can we please stop using Termites and start using Hunters now? :o

Damn, that Bob leg eating scene was brutal.

I wish they revealed why he was crying earlier. I could've swore he was bit.

and going in that food bank zombie water for some canned goods. Nope.

I really thought they were going to have Bob reveal him being bit when he was outside and I was waiting for him to commit suicide after the breakdown. I'm glad they didn't since it made a nice surprise to me at least. And now Tyreese will be responsible for Bob's leg and if anyone is killed due to him letting that guy in the cabin live. Everyone in the group will regret not listening to Rick when he wanted to go back and finish the job.

Overall, I liked the pacing of this episode as it created a nice balance between the rampage of the first. It was probably a really stupid idea to drop into waist high water for some canned food, but a risk to take considering the amount of food they ended getting (and ****ing wasting instead of rationing) and the next time they might have an opportunity to find a score like that again.

Another great episode. I am stoked to see Gabriel introduced into the show. And to those who read the comics we all know he is hiding something.

I knew Gareth was going to be a cannibal. That Terminus crowd had cannibals written all over them. Bob is a great choice for their meal. I won't miss him. And again to those who read the comic know
it was Dale who was their first victim, and he had secretly been bitten, so he was tainted meat and started laughing hysterically telling them that when they revealed they cut off his leg and were eating it. So I'm betting Bob was bitten by that walker who pulled him under the water. That's why he was crying by himself outside the church before the cannibals grabbed him

I wonder why Carol was trying to run out on the group. I'm glad Daryl caught her. I don't want the group split up again. Especially not bad ass Carol.

How is Tyreese responsible for Bob's leg?

B/c she realized she doesn't need the group anymore. They need her more than she needs them.

But seriously I don't think she's comfortable with them after killing Karen, David and Lizzie. It's kind of awkward for her b/c most of the group doesn't know Rick banished her for executing Karen and David. I also don't think she's interested in that trip to Washington either.

It figures that once Carol becomes a certified badass she starts treating the group like dead weight.

I wanna see Carol fighting Bob to the death now that he only has one leg. With no weapon.

Carol is the new Michonne as she doesn't want to get emotionally tied down anymore and is badass.

Her plan was to drop Tyreese and Judith at Terminus to meet up with the group where she would just leave. I think in her mind, being alone is for the better.

How is Tyreese responsible for Bob's leg?
He's indirectly responsible for it. It's possible the guy in the cabin was the one tracking them.

I didn't get this feeling. I agree with the other poster that it is more of a guilt thing. :( Like she isn't good enough for the group anymore because of what she did.

Have yall seen this:

AMC’s “The Walking Dead” has been known to sprinkle in little Easter eggs throughout the show just for eagle-eyed fans like this Imgur user, who discovered a message hidden in the show’s last episode. That episode introduced us to Father Gabriel, a man who is without a doubt hiding some very dark secret. Could this easter egg be shining a light on the mysterious character? Who knows. It’s super cool, though, so there’s that!

“We all know the writers of The Walking Dead love to see what they can slide past us,” says the fan. “Well this past Sunday during the group’s search of the church in “Strangers”, I noticed this sign with all the bible verses on it and was curious if they meant anything. The verses are Romans 6:4, Ezekiel 37:7, Matthew 27:52, Revelation 9:6, and Luke 24:5. Turns out they make a story of sorts.”

Below is a look at what was found, let us know what you think!

That is really cool!

Edit: Oops wrong thread. Mods please delete this post.

I was excited when I first heard that Seth Gilliam from The Wire was cast as Gabriel so I've been looking forward to this episode. It was much slower than the season premiere but I think that's to be expected. It did have a couple of tense scenes and put Carol and Daryl on the trail to find Beth. The zombies in the flooded basement scene looked great. Just when Bob starts to become likable he gets captured by cannibals.
