The Wes Bently/Blackheart Thread

Damn, I really missed a great coversation here didn't I?

I was really excited to see the part in question in the trailer as it did a couple of things for me. First and foremost, it gave us a taste of the supernatural element of the flick, which is highly important. Second; it gave us just a little confirmation that BlackHeart will indeed be changing into demon form in this movie (not that I didn't believe MSJ when he said so) which was a deep concern of mine during the development of the movie. It's very had to tell what the final transformation is going to look like or even if it'll be more than what we've seen but, I'm happy that he is going to at least show the demon.

Personally, I think the stuff coming out of his mouth is in fact the start of his transformation and I don't think it's teeth we see. The question is how close the transformation will be to the comics... and how much the fans really care.

MSJ did say he would look very close to BH in the comics with more "horror" elements added. I assume to make BH look better on the screen and scaried. Since his look wouldn't translate overly well to the screen with out some minor tweaks much like the raised webbing that was brought up.

Now, what ARE horror elements ? I'm guessing the teeth, although I personally find a being without any mouth opening to be more horrifying.

I'm a little worried, actually. The simplicity of Blackheart's appearance was part of what made it work.

Remember. Yellow spandex looks really badass in the comics.

Everyone is forgetting 'cool' and 'scary' get two completly different outlooks when done in a comic book/drawn medium.

Characters in yellow spandex and bright suits only look cool because they're not drawn like actors in suits or with regular body types. They look perfectly toned and that suit is glued to their skin. They're shaded differently, given different textures, and that doesn't translate good ito RL most often.

Scary is just plain freaking scary. Take the psycho crap H.R. Gieger draws in art books. They tone his art DOWN and the 'Alien' becomes the trademark of big screen horror for years. Basic fears don't rely on a coolness factor, they're present no matter how they're done. An eight-foot tall mouthless black humanoid made of tightly wound thorny vines, twitchy Predator hair, and glowing red eyes is scary no matter what format it's presented on.

In fact Blackheart would even be scarier/more disturbing if they brought him closer to human size/apperance. The closer something looks to human but isn't, the more terrifying it is. Take the man-faced dog at the end of the Body Snatchers, or that alien-eyed kid in the 'Airals' music video. People view human faces and body features in a perfect, exacting way. Any deviation and it's considered ugly or grotesque. Throw it really out of wack and people scream. And of course the people who like that horror will tink it's 'cool'.

They could go strictly John Romita Jr. look for Blackheart where he's no taller or different in body shape than Daredevil's character. A stretchy stuff over his mouth so it looks like a jaw moving under some membrane, enlarged red eyes on a human sized skull, yiiich.

This is a damn old thread that I'm bumping here but, it just goes to show how long it's been since we really chatted about Wes being on board, which truly is a Shame. Wisco brought it up in another thread and it got me to searchin' for old threads.

I, personally, am very excited about Wes being in this. I'm only seen him in American Beauty but, he was brilliant in that so, one should think he'd be good in this as well. Of course, only time will tell...

think one of the problems is that we havent heard from Wes on his involvement w/ the movie. no interviews, articles...nada. much of the attention has been on Cage w/ some on Fonda and Mendes. once it gets closer to the release date im sure some interviews will pop up...would be interesting to hear if he was also a fan of the comic.

Weve only seen a little of Wes in the trailer, but when he says "im here to win the war" the look on his face is priceless. Truley a son who wants to kill his father.(think S. Freud) . I think he'll do a great job as BH...D

With Bentley, other than American Beauty, I'm not very impressed with the work he's done, and even thought his part in AB could have been a bit better (but that might just be my taste in films, although I found AB to be an amazing film). When I found out Bentley was BH I was worried, still am since I am not a fan of his outside of one film. So far the photographs have me enjoying the look, I just hope I feel the same fo the performance.

Wes Bently is god.....
I agree! I think hes soo close to breaking out as an A list actor. I just wish wed see more of his work on screen....D

Well, we got a little more with the recent footage and he still looks great. We can't really tell how his acting is or anything but, he looks incredible. I have all the faith in the world though. His work in American Beauty is brilliant, so we know he has it in him.

I have a feeling that he's not an A list actor because of choice. He doesn't seem to work a whole hell of a lot (unless it's on indie flicks or stage work, that is). Then again, he could be hard to get along with as well, who knows?

Exclusive footage of Bently, attacking a surprise cameo character!

According to IMDB.com, he hasn't worked any film during 2003 or 2004 as an actor. But then again, IMDB.com is a **** reference.

He'll be an A-list after Ghost Rider...no dout.

thats what i want to see.
does anyone know if we will see his true demonic form or are we stuck with his human disguise.
i suspect he will be human till the climax where he shows his true self. i would be satisfied with that.

i dont know too much about the character at all really. i love him in the marvel vs capcom games but thats all i know of him, [besides his basic history]. but man i want to see blackheart go all "ARMEGEDDON" on the big screen.

Yes he does transform. We get slight hints of it. A smile that goes too far, stuff like that. I believe MSJ said it would be comic Blackheart mixed with some other horror influences here and there. But he'll transform and go at it with GR.

I think we saw the start of it in the teaser.

This is my most anticipated scene. One of the best villains I've seen in GR, MSJ can make the whole movie for me with a proper Blackheart design.

i wanna see mephistopheles more....... now that would be sick!!!

I know that Wes Bentley is gonna be doing human Blackheart, but has anyone heard yet if Blackheart will eventually change to his natural demon self later on in the movie:

Does anyone think that they are trying to keep it secret so that it will be a surprise to Blackheart fans?

For the final time. Yes he will transform and fight GR.

thanks, that's good news...where did you find this information? Do you have a link to that info?

Q: There was a report a few months ago by someone who saw concept drawings for Blackheart stating the character looked like a "nosferatu type creature". Is this description true?

A: Blackheart is shown in what I consider his "Human form" for much of the movie. But along the way we get hints of what lies underneath. By the climax we see his true self -- and it's horrifying. There will be some of the classic comic look along with other horrific elements to his look.
