The "Why So Serious? Gotham City Noir" RPG: Sign-Up/OOC Thread

Without further ado:

"Gotham City Noir" RPG Application

Screenname:
Green Lantern

Gothamite you would like to portray: Detective Marcus Driver

Class of society: (Choose one)Law Enforcer

Resume: (Brief character biography) Driver grew up near the area of Gotham known as "Crime Alley", his father was a deadbeat, and his mom died of a heroin overdose when Driver was a freshman in High School. Seeing what drugs and gang violence was doing to his neighborhood, he worked hard and became a beat cop in the Gotham City Police Department. Even so, Driver has been tempted by the bribes offered by the mob families, and being on the MCU, he's a perfect target for them to try and buy.

Factoids of interest: (Special attributes - IE: Weapons, attire... anything needed to be known) Carries standard Browning M1911 Service Pistol

Known associates: (NPC's needed to be attached to your character) Det. Charlie Fields, Lt. James Gordon, the rest of the GCPD

Three integral reasons behind choosing the character: 1. One of my favorite characters from Gotham Central.
2. To play both ends of the mob struggle, one in UDC and one here.
3. To ignore orders from MB, and b**ch about the vigilante problem.

Please provide a brief explaination behind your character's motivations (ex: What does he/she believe in? How does he/she connect with Gotham City? What grinds your character's gears?): Hates drugs and street gangs, stemming from where he grew up, but does have some morally grey areas, mainly with organized crime. However, he's yet to act on any of his temptations, and is still one of the few honest cops.

File Headshot: (A picture if your character, if applicable)

Please provide a small sample post, in the format you plan to portray this identity, with three paragraphs at minimum:

This area of town always brings back memories. There's the corner where I saw my first hooker, across the street from the laundromat that mom dropped me off at when I was eight. I didn't care, I had a pocket full of quarters, and they had Pac-Man. That night though, mom went into the warehouse and passed right by the ****e. I didn't know then, but I sure know now what that lady was doing. As Charlie pulls the cruiser up the curb more memories flood back. After graduation, my old neighborhood became my first beat. Just a block from my old house is where I shot my first perp. He was a dealer, and if he hadn't been so f**ked up, I'd be dead right now, because he shot first. I was young, and stupid, and didn't call for back up. My hands were quivering as I pulled the trigger, swear to god I almost wet my self as the bullet ripped into his leg.

"Hey Driver! You gonna sit and daydream all night, or you gonna come help me question the perp?"

Ol' Charlie's a bit impatient, but he does have a point. I don't think he'd get much out the kid if he didn't have my bad cop to reinforce his good cop...

Since Thursdays is generally my reading day for the hype, I've been catching up on some of the stories here, some nice shizzle goin down people!

I'm on an RPing spree today, I will get posts up for most if not all games I'm in today. This one being first.

So, thoughts, suggestions, criticism regarding Harv's first foray into his darker self?

I liked it. Great stuff, and I like how you're going the "road to hell is paved with good intentions" route with him.

I thought that said darker elf at first, lol. But yeah, liking where it's going for now, am very interested in seeing how this develops!

GL and Apprentice are approved for Driver and Fries, respectively.

By the by, since when does Driver have mob ties?
He doesn't technically, but you think the mob wouldn't try to buy off any member of the MCU it could? I never said I'll give in to it, but he will be tempted.

Okay, I may not be able to post anytime soon... turns out that my new dog thought that my laptop's AC adapter was a good chew toy so I am very limited on battery time. You won't be kicked out. We understand that **** happens.

Gotta say Byrd, good work on that last post. I really like your Alfred.

Thank you, good sir. I'm trying to turn him into a combo of my favorite Alfreds. Caine, B:TAS Alfred (played by Efrem Zimbalist Jr.) and Gough.

I can see that. B:TAS Alfred had the dry wit, Caine has the intense loyalty and Gough was really a father figure.

Gough was really a father figure.

Funny you would say that. I read a psychologist analysis of Batman Begins and he said Alfred represented a motherly figure, always forgiving of Bruce. While Ra's/Ducard represented a paternal figure, the tough love and unyielding attitude. He even said the whole movie was about Bruce's struggle to find a father, due to the fact that his own had been taken from him before they could have an adult relationship.

I gotta say, dude had a point.

Definitely. That's a pretty interesting analysis and one I definitely agree with.

Heh, that's pretty cool.

I gotta agree. I liked the portrayal of BB's Alfred better, because he took on a parental figure.

Joker post coming momentarily. I'm hoping that it will really make you all see how f**ked up he is. :hoboj:
