Nice, will be plaything through this again in the winter, once all DLC and patches released so an NG+ will be perfect. Gives me chance to read more of the books between now and then too so I have more idea whats going on with some stuff. Love it.
Nice. I look forward to your thoughts on the books. I really like them, and have gained an appreciation for some of the interesting ways it subverts the fantasy genre. I believe there's also going to be newly translated novel, Sword of Destiny which is the second volume of short stories, this December.
Finished the first short storys book, really liked it. Its amazing the amount of little details in the book that have been put into the games plus it fills in some of the backstory of Geralt, Yen and Dandilion. Made about half way through the first novel Blood of Elves and that is very good also, already making we want to play through Witcher 3 again now I know more about Ciri and her growing up at Kaer Morhen, makes that start of the game when you see her as a kid all the more memorable. The books certainly make realise what an outstanding job CDPR did of translating it to a tangible living world.
So, CDPR is officially releasing a new Mod Tools Kit: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/the-witcher-3-mod-tools-what-can-we-expect/1100-6429426/
And, even more interesting for me as a console player, CDPR is looking into the possibility of being able to bring mods to consoles. Nothing's guaranteed, but they're looking into it. http://www.gamespot.com/articles/witcher-3s-mods-could-come-to-xbox-oneps4-but-noth/1100-6429550/
Bringing mods to The Witcher 3 on Xbox One and PS4 would really be interesting to see.
Nice, glad to hear you liked it. And yeah, I absolutely agree. Having heard how big a deal The Witcher was, and still is, in Poland...it really seems that they were the perfect team to work on that franchise. I think had it been anywhere else, especially here in America (which might have been impossible since it had never been translated into English prior to the first game), that there would have been things lost. Like, I think about the outrage over how a Hollywood version of Akira has gotten because it's being 'Westernized'.
CDPR really sticks close to the novels. And the novels are pretty damn subversive, as well. I think about 'The Last Wish', and how the introduction of Yen kinda goes against all the tropes of what you'd expect from a love interest in a fantasy genre story. Reading the novels too, made it seem like such an obvious choice for an RPG game. Having read the first two novels of a Song of Ice and Fire around the same time that I burned through the Witcher novels I have, I can really appreciate the open ended approach to Sapowski's writing. He doesn't spend a page or two describing what Geralt is wearing, or how his hair is tied, or what the rooms look like. He kinda goes straight for the meat, and is much more interested in the character moments and telling the story he wants to tell. I think in 'Blood of Elves' he even goes ahead and does one of the ballsiest things I've seen, atleast from my Western perspective, and has nothing but dialogue for like three or four pages without any descriptions whatsoever. Just straight up dialogue for a few pages straight.
I read two first books and I was really astonished how CDPR treated the source material. It felt like Sapkowski himself wrote the games.
Yeah, what I like about the books is that, much like the games, the morality is several shades of grey bot all black and white. Its a bleak messed up world but its not a simple, these are the "good guys" and these are the evil evil "bad guys" and good wins in the end. Its a bleak world where everyone is trying to survive and a lot of the time that involves doing pretty horrible things but if they dont they will die. Even the "monsters" are not just "bad guys" they are just trying get along and live there own lives too.
The Witchers themselves are not "heroes" but just guys providing a service for coin, they dont really want to get involved with the conflicts and politics of the world unless fate drags them into no choice but intervening. Even the Scoia'tel who appear like bandits and "terrorists" at first have a point with the way they have been treated in the past but again not everyone one of their race agrees with their tactics.
It makes for a much more complex and believeable world.
Yea that's why the games are so good. All of that is present ten fold. I'm quite looking forward to Cyberpunk, but I reallllly hope CDPR isn't done with this universe. I'd love to see what else they can do with this world.
New Game+ isn't messing around.
So far I feel pretty confident in NG+ DM with my lvl 38 spellsword build and Wolven set. Quen is a life saver, as usual. The biggest trouble - swarming enemies. Getting my ass handed back to me in Wandering in the Dark quest. Damn those portal creatures. Once I clear NG+ DM, I'll try another playthrough with a different build. Alchemy-sword or pure alchemy.
Can't help but feel slightly screwed that I've already leveled past early missions because I finished my previous game at 37.
I started reading the books. Finished "The Last Wish" a week ago, and am half way through The Sword of Destiny. I'm really enjoying the books and gives me an even greater appreciation for the game.I read two first books and I was really astonished how CDPR treated the source material. It felt like Sapkowski himself wrote the games.
Finally finished the main story. Yeah, this is my favorite game. Loved the story, loved the gameplay, loved it all.
Does anyone know if you can use New Game+ on a second play through? Like say, you beat the game, use New Game+ to start another, beat that game, can you then you New Game+ on that second playthrough?
