CD Projeckt Red The Witcher 3

I knew this game is huge, but damn. I've like 80 hours of playtime (maybe couple of hours idling), and haven't even finished act 1. Just so much stuff to do. I think this game might have some of the best side quests ever. They're not just simple filler, but instead can form their own stories. Something like [BLACKOUT]decorating a cabaret can turn into a serial killer hunt, it's pretty awesome[/BLACKOUT]. I know everyone knew that already since I'm a little late to the party, but just had to praise this game a little.

Anyone got any tips for leveling? I just started playing and I'm halfway to level 4. Next story mission is recommended level 5. I'm doing side missions and stuff, but the exp yields aren't very much.

Matt Mortem:

Try going to the question mark or undiscovered locations on your maps. You might find abandoned sites. Those give you automatic XP points. You will also find Places of Power, which give you upgrade skill points and augment your sign abilities.

Also, if you find monster nests, destroy them! That also earns XP points. Also, unlocking new towns and markers will open up unmarked side quests, let you get new Witcher contracts at the bulletin boards, etc. If you have mind control level too, I would recommend using that on dialogue options. Use that on enemies in dialogue options and you can avoid certain fights. It will also get you some automatic XP points.

I also recommend pursuing the Witcher school armor diagrams. Upgrade your sets as you level up too. You can find a set that will suit whatever play style you prefer. The Witcher school armors also look way more badass and augment your abilities.

One other thing. If a mission is higher than the recommended, you can still pull it off. If it's a couple levels higher, I would still say go for it. As long as you have a good strategy and know what you are doing, they aren't too insanely hard.

17gb on PC. I got this thing for free but never played it. With my time winding down in MGSV and no other major titles to look forward to this year, I think I may try it

This game is better than Metal Gear Solid V. And Mass Effect 3

Thanks Vile. I appreciate the tips. I'll dive back into the Witcher with all that in mind.

Another thing to keep in mind, if you do missions that are higher than your level, you'll get more XP. So in the early stages, assuming you know what ur doing, take on those contracts a few levels higher than you. They'll be tough, but worth it.

Be warned. If you download the new patch and play NG+, you will lose all your DLC content. Make sure to keep a 1.08 patch.

Man these patches are freaking annoying. How does that freaking work? Can you still download the DLC content again or what?

Honestly, I don't like the Gwent gameplay. It's sort of like Black Jack meets Magic the Gathering. IMHO, it's a bit too hard, especially for the Gwent-based side quests. I've worked on playing the small fry and beat them, but I'm only getting cards for my other decks which are still incomplete. As a result, my one full deck, the Temeria deck, is still pretty weak when playing the Gwent players on the side quests.

I love the game, but it's not without its flaws. The crafting system IMHO is way too overwrought. You can't really upgrade existing weapons or gear that you pick up and do like, except the Witcher school stuff. But getting that upgraded is both expensive and you need to collect all sorts of alchemy and crafting ingredients. IMHO, you shouldn't need monster parts to craft the Witcher gear. That's silly. You need a dragon brain to craft a freaking sword? That's ****ing ridiculous. It's a SWORD!

I'm glad I saved Gwent stuff for last because it's a long uphill climb to dominance IMHO. Also, winning at Gwent IMHO is not as rewarding as other quests.

Not at all. The Witcher school gear are extremely rare, almost mythical magic items. It makes perfect sense that such a unique item would contain something like a specific monster item. Someone like Harry Potters wand contained a Phoenix feather, it's really no different here. Same idea. So no, using monster parts on Witcher gear is more than fine, it fits the lore. No other way to look at it.

Yeah a FEATHER. Not a dragon brain.

so, after a much long absence, I'm FINALLY getting around to playing this game.

Meh. Dragons are magical, and their body parts have all sorts of uses in fiction. It’s not a stretch and they could use the brain in any number of ways to make use of its inherent powers. Just off the top of my head…

1) Toss the dragon brain into the flames to help feed the blacksmith’s fire
2) Mix the brain into the metal during the smelting process
3) Use the brain (via stabbing or crushed and mixed into the water) to help quench the fire on the blade during forging
4) Crush up the brain and mix it into the sword’s polishing wax

I love those suggestions (Spider-Who?!)

Thanks. I figure TheVileOne was thinking that the brain was crammed into the hilt or something like HP wands (which yeah, would be lame) but there's plenty of cool, "logical" ways to incorporate magical elements into construction of weapons and armor!

So I got all that free DLC, but how do I use it? Where do I get all those new armors and stuff?
