BvS The Wonder Woman Costume Thread - Part 5

I can see some adaptation of the shorts working.
As I've always said. I think they should have the traditional look make an appearance but more of pay homage to the traditional look rather than an all out adaptation.
Exactly. I have my point of view and opinion, and I only "speak for" ie repeat what I have been told, by other women whom I have spoken too. I have respect for those who show respect. I grew up watching Wonder Woman with the Lynda Carter/Superfreinds version of her outfit. That is iconic to me, and what most people would have come to mind. They are going to bring their kids to the latest superhero movie, I don't want them traumatized, LOL.
I would like for you to answer my question if it isn't to much of a bother because I'd really like to know your perspective. Can she not be empowering unless she is less dressed than most of her teammates?

I like the briefs costume, I think it looks cool and I think it fits the character.

I think the point the poster is making is that Wonder Woman is enpowering full top. It's how artists depict the character that is in question. She could be in long pants and still be depicted in an inappropriate manner. Cliff has proved that with his current run.

I understand her point of view and I'm taking it in. I feel like some are just glazing over the fact that the entire point of the costume change from skirt to long shorts(almost capris) to panties was to make her look more sexualized. So making it appear as though it is some empowering symbol of womanhood seems like a fallacy in my opinion. I wanted her to elaborate on this so I could understand her standpoint more.

This is another one really good!!! the shoulder and skirt-type is really good and has the correct lenght in here differently as this one that is really good also.

Which one do you prefer shoulders or straps?

And yep I agree that I think in live action it won't be heels I'm almost sure of that.

Well, I could turn that around, and ask why she is losing anything by wearing less than her teamates? Why as a character with the power of the gods, does she have to cover everything like Batman? Part of their power is the perception of other people around them...hiding her in plain sight hides her power. Batman gets his power from looking like a big scary demon who swoops down in the shadows, and has to wear body armor because he is a normal human with human weaknesses.

Diana shines like a beacon. That beacon would work best in her iconic suit. No one really remembers her in the original skirt, she has, IN THE PUBLIC EYE, been presented in the shorts/"bathing suit" version. Not a thong, nor a skirt...

I don't hate skirts per se, but it gets into silly season when I see skirts down to her knees, as if she should be ashamed of herself, and stuff that covers her backside while riding up her thighs much higher than what the shorts version would cover. I also think skirts will be sexier than you may have thought it through due to the "upskirt" effect.

I don't hate pants either, and I like the Chiang version with pants as something I would love to have the body type to wear. But I love an entrance, let her be iconic. It was good enough for my mom, for the feminists who run the school where my niece attends, it was good enough for me...but I'm not good enough.

Superman is also impervious to harm and he still wears a full body suit. By that logic he and she should never wear clothes at all. I get that you are more worried about the iconography than the logistics of it and that's your right but I have to question your judgement. I don't think that they "need" to do anything to appease traditionalist. Look what is happening with Fantastic Four right now they completely changed the race of the character for the sake of diversity. So it would seem likely that they could cover her up more considering it makes more sense for her character in all.

I'm in complete agreement about her still being able to attain being a sexy woman but tastefully. I don't see the shorts working for that reason. They feel contrived next to completely covered up heroes and impractical for wear for the actress. What if the scene calls for a winter backdrop? I just think they are fan service IMO. That being said I do think the one breif picture posted in the last page is rather good. I'd love to see that more in the comics not so much in live action though.

What about this? straps combination, loin cloth. Interesting and good design if you ask me. I like the swork in her leg, pretty badass IMO.
Althought the things I would change are the bracelets.

Ok, my judgement is questioned. I also put this to other people IRL and to a woman they all had the same opinion that I do..I even put up pictures on my tablet stating "doesn't this seem demeaning to women? Doesn't she look like a streetwalker? Do you think this would be inappropriate in real life?"

Your opinion doesn't reflect my reality. And lets look at Gal Gadot...she has had to defend herself more than once over her own portrayal in print and in a commercial as to her sexiness. She had to defend herself over a picture for a tourism campaign, and for her commercial where she was shaking her booty in jeans. What might HER opinion be?

I actually love the basic look of the bodice and the cloth everything else needs work but I just love the loincloth lately. The one from JL movie from a couple pages ago.

Which one are you refering to?

This is such a cop-out answer, but I would like multiple WW outfits.

The battleskirt as a default, the pants for a bit more protection, and the shorts in a certain context.

It would be funny if she had a shirtrip scene and was already wearing shorts (in a summer context) and didn't pull them off :)

Again unless it is a nationwide study your small sample of people you know in your area is not significant. Also I hope you don't think I'm attacking you I'm not. I'm just debating with you. I enjoy hearing your standpoint though I don't agree with it completely.

My main point was that they change things to fit into the films they are making in comic adaptations. If they didn't Batman 89 would look exactly like the comics costume because it is more iconic that is not reality. To me it seems plausible that in this universe they will most likely want to make her look like she belongs next to heroes considering his "grounded" (no pun intended) approach to Supes in MOS.
I really don't think so. The thigh-highs and fingerless glove channel the worst of 1990s comics, for a start.
Agreed. Everything except the basic parts of the design looks out of place and disproportionate.

@John-An: I was referring to the costume you just posted.

Well Aside for those things you mentioned. I don't like it all of it. But with changes could be good. The best part is the loin-cloth "dress" under the top and the sword on her leg is really a nice touch.

@Jaymese06: I posted many so for that was the question. you meant the one regwec and I were discussing?

By the way here's other I found that combines shoulders and straps.

These pants looks really good (and draw attention to how silly the panties look) and I agree about the boots, John-An. I don't think she'll have heels. Not really appropriate for a warrior's outfit.
