The "World of Heroes" DC RPG Season III

[The Question]

I walk over to Live Wire.

"This isn't going to go well. Parasite will just absorb whatever we hit him with. Superman has alot of alien technology here. Mabey one of his devices could be used."

OOC: Forgive me if I ignore the referrences to the movie version of the FOS, but I'm going to do it anyways since we're definitely not in a sub-zero environment.

IC: Rudy raised his eyebrow "What's it feel like to be the Unity's b**ch?" Faster than Batman's brain could register the action, the Parasite had slapped him across the room. "You tell me. You're the one gettin' slapped like a b**ch!"

Using Wonder Woman's powers, Rudy began floating off of the floor and looked at the others.

"Anyone else want to dance?"

I hack up a lugi of blood out of my system and whipe the remains off my mouth. I hear Question mention getting some tech to help against Parasite. The others in the Legion should be able to keep him busy while we get something.

I sneak away finding the dark blue thing thats in the room, Sage.

"Follow me, the next room has a machine that could lock Parasite into the Phantom Zone, that would hold him. I just hope it hasn't been destroyed in the carnage..."

 

[Johnny Blaze]

Imra shook her head. Something was wrong it had been boring at her mind for so long. It had faded into the background given the constant humming of the unified minds.
The Unity’s touch on her had somehow caused it to stand out.
It had been ever since…

I walk over to Live Wire.

“Who do I look like? Brainy? I wouldn’t have the slightest idea what---”

“GARTH!”

Imra’s shout startled Garth, forcing him to turn and face her...just as she exerts her superior mental might, causing him to reel backwards to the nearby wall. At once, Garth knew she had discovered his secret.

Colors exploded from her, pushing him back against a wall.

“NO! You didn’t!”

“No”, was all Garth could think. Not that he meant he didn’t do what she thought he did, but Garth did not want to believe that it had come to this. He knew, ever since he joined the Unity in it’s quest for peace, that Imra would one day find out. She was as intelligent and resourceful as she was beautiful after all. Still, he could not imagine that it would come to blows. Despite being on opposite sides of this thing, he still loved her immensely.

She could feel it now, Garth had become part of the Unity. She pinned him against the wall her eyes glowing. She began to peel back and strip off the layers the Unity had placed on Garth’s mind.

Anger at betrayal turned to fear.
“There’s too much of it…where is he?”
Tears stung her eyes.

Seeing the tears in her eyes brought up the uneasy feeling again in Garth, but this time it wasn’t about himself. He saw the look of hurt and betrayal in Imra’s eyes, and, despite working to bring serenity to the planet, he felt ashamed. He had betrayed the trust of the only woman he had ever truly and wholly loved, and he felt completely awful because of what he has done.
Mentally, she was still holding him back against the wall. As the tears began to form in Garth’s eyes, he averted his gaze and looked at the floor; he couldn’t bring himself to look her in the eye.

 

[The Question]

I look at Live Wire.

"Are you going to help stop the nigh unstopable metahuman with canabalistic tendancies, or are you going to need a time out? You and X, cover Batman and I."

I turn back to Batman.

"After you."

 

[Red]

I look at Live Wire.

"Sorry buddy, i'm a not team player" he razed his left arm and fired a X shaped projectile from his palm, the projectile grew in size as it got closer to The Question. It rapped around him and forced him to the floor,then he threw the x shaped blade towards batman.

Deathstroke watched from the Unity's console as the events unfolded. He sparked up another cigarette and puffed hard, prepping himself for what he knew was inevitable.

"Lets do it."

With a flash of blue light, Deathstroke is transported to the Fortress of Solitude. He stays in the shadows, moving quickly to find his first kill. As he comes across the main room, Slade creeps low to the ground making sure not to be seen.

 

[The Question]

"Sorry buddy, i'm not team player" he razed his left arm and fired a X shaped projectile from his palm, the projectile grew in size as it got closer to The Question. It rapped around him and forced him to the floor,then he threw the x shaped blade towards batman.

Damnit.

This is why I hate being apart of these big emergencies. I always end up utterly helpless. And of course, there's always a traitor. This is why I'm paranoid. You can't trust anyone.

By then I noticed that Live Wire (I think that's his name) was writhing on the ground, with Saturn Girl above him with tears in his eyes. I was about to say something when--

By then I noticed that Live Wire (I think that's his name) was writhing on the ground, with Saturn Girl above him with tears in his eyes. I was about to say something when--



I dive out of the way of the X-arang or whatever the hell that thing is. I look at Red X, ready to attack again. Figures.

"Let me guess, Unity?"

"Hey Red X? Got an 'x' for me?"

I hover next to Bats, before the traitor.

"I hope it's yellow."

Rudy watched as Batman slipped away and saw Red X take care of the Question. But something else really caught his attention; the telekinetic power of Saturn Girl blasting towards Live Wire and holding him against the wall. Cover's blown.

Without being seen because of his speed, the Parasite ran towards Live Wire and did his best immitation of the Unity by whispering suggestions into Garth's ear. "Why don't you show her what your new hand can do, Sparky? Show her that you ain't useless anymore."

Hal flies next to me, and Parasite is casualy conversing with Live Wire. The thought hits me, and I say it aloud.

"Is there ANYBODY in this room that ISN'T a traitor?"

 

[The Question]

I roll over on the ground toward one of the shuriken Red X threw. I grab it and use it to cut through the cords I'm tied in. I stand up and run towards Red X, kneeing him in the crotch. While X is distracted, I turn to Jordan and yell.

"Jordan. Take care of Parasite. Batman and I will handel X."

X pointed to the x symbol on his chest “Each to his own”.

I roll over on the ground toward one of the shuriken Red X threw. I grab it and use it to cut through the cords I'm tied in. I stand up and run towards Red X, kneeing him in the crotch. While X is distracted, I turn to Jordan and yell.

"Jordan. Take care of Parasite. Batman and I will handel X."

I hit Parasite once in the jaw. I don't care about his powers. We'll see how good those powers do him when I get through with him.

Rudy rubbed his jaw. Even with Wonder Woman's strength, he could still feel the Green Lantern's blow. Before Jordan could land another punch, the Parasite was hitting him with the Amazonian's strength 100 times per second, sending Hal smashing into a far wall.

"You caught me by surprise with that first punch, Hal, so I'll tell ya what; with my speed, if you can lay another hand on me, I promise to kill you as quickly and painlessly as possible. How 'bout it?"

 

[Johnny Blaze]

As Garth lay on the ground with Imra delving into his mind, he heard a voice that sounded somewhat like the Unity.

"Why don't you show her what your new hand can do, Sparky? Show her that you ain't useless anymore."

The thought had crossed Garth's mind when he initially was attacked by Saturn Girl. With his upgrade, he could have easily sent out a current to take her out, but...no. He couldn't do it then, and he won't now. No matter what happens between them, no matter if they are on opposite sides of a war, he could not bring himself to hurt Imra. Besides, his betrayal had hurt her more than any electrical bolt could ever have. He had seen that in her eyes when she initially lashed out at him.
Garth just sat there, albiet as stoically as he could, and took whatever Imra dished out in stride. For what he had done to her, he deserved it.

"Speed is worthless when attacked by all sides..."

With an emerald explosion, i dispel energy all around, and launch Parasite into the infinite space above the Fortress. I then fly after him, and while grabbing him, pull him farther and farther away...

Rudy roared and grabbed onto where Jordan was holding him. He only needed a moment to adjust to Jordan's personal force field and began to take in the emerald energy, making Hal's shield crack and splinter.

"You ready to die, Jordan?"

With incredible strength, the Parasite let go of the Green Lantern and uppercut him, creating a sonic boom, then punched him in the jaw, sending Hal into spirals.

"Wonder Babe ain't as strong as Kent is, but she still packs a punch, don't she?"

He reminds me of Jason, except...no, he reminds me exactly of Jason. It's quite frightening, actually. Hotheaded, cocky, just one small mistake would be all it would take for him to take the enternal plunge.

I take out my own batarangs and fling them towards him. He ducks away, but lands face-first on my knee, chipping his mask a bit. I grab him by the throat and though I only say two words I can tell they reverberate through his spine.

"Give up."

Oh, geez. That punch hurt. Almost as powerful as a locomotive. I bit off a section of my tongue as my teeth clanged together. Stiching it together quickly with my ring as I spiraled away, I stopped and controlled myself.

"Yeth. Packth a punth," I replied.

~Sir, battery percentage at 75%~

"Thanks for the notice, ring. Of all inclusive functions, any for this situation?"

"Code: Ophelia and Vesuvius, sir."

"Ok. Um, keep Ophelia up and ready. We'll see how this creature likes it."

I float, ready for him.

He falls.

And for a moment I watch.

We were flying, and then he fell. The threshold crossed. And without thinking about it...I save him.

HIM!

GUY GARDNER!

I save HIM!


It was instinct. I let Guy Gardner live. Ignoring the fact that he is likely an agent of Unity, I prevented Gardner's death. I don't know what is wrong with me.

The heroes must be rubbing off on me. It is at once terrifing and...exciting? Yes, it is actually exciting. If I can save Gardner, then I've taken the first steps to turly understanding these heroes. To learning how, and why, they do what they do. I realize that I'm one step closer to what I want. I haven't felt this way since...since...


since I first became a Green Lantern...

"Damn it," he thinks to himself, "cocky little !#$% is forcing me into this too early." He checks every weapon he has before making a move. Every gun is loaded with armor piercing, hollow-point bullets, "Just for your Brucie," he smiles cocking back his automatic rifle. Deathstroke puts the rifle on his back and unsheathes his sword. The blade wont even touch the Bat, but Slade has his decisions precisely mapped out. He creeps up behind Wayne and slams the butt end of his sword handle against the back of Batman's skull.

 

[The Question]

Deathstroke.

Wonderful.

Batman is going to have his hands full.

I chargs at Red X, knocking him to the ground. I then take the gun out of my pocket and put it to X's head.

"You seem like a reasonable man. I am not a reasonable man, so bear with me. I don't like people who sell out their planet. I am quite willing to blow what little you have in the way of brains right out of your head. So, it would be in your best interest to stay still. Sound reasonable?"

Wait a minute. The "upgrades" I apparently still have from Unity are still up, I might very well be as fast as him. No better time to test this theory but now.

I simply lift my hand and do the traditional "come get some" gesture.

Imra heard Parasite's comment.

Reaching her hand back she ripped Garths sleeve and pulled it back.
Energy crackling around her the fake metallic peeled off of it, revealing flesh.

*** Was it for this?*** she yelled in his head, her mind reeling.

"This isn't happening..It can't it's Garth...."

Imra could feel his compliance; however he didn't feel her fear.
The Unity had taken a hold on him.

She started digging her mind into his; physically she stood still her eyes glowing with pink lights danced around her and Garth. Her mind deep in his, the Unity battered at her mentally. Trying to get her as she fought to release Garth. His limp ‘body’ pinned to the wall, his arm shining with bright lights.

Grabbing whatever she could of him she tried to free the rest. She could feel her own self slipping.

She didn't have enough time. Making the decision she pulled with all her will.
Prying the essence and mind of Garth from the Unity's grasp.
Light encircled her encircled her, bright and vibrant it twisted it’s self around her.

What do you hope to gain? She heard the unmistakable ‘voice’ of the Unity.

His free will. Let him go.

Why? He’s betrayed you, what use could you possibly have for him?

It isn’t about ‘use.’

What is it about then?

Imra glared into the brightness. She could feel it pushing her for an answer.

I love him

The brightness recoiled slightly before she felt it tighten.

Indeed You do know what love get’s you don’t you? Pain at their hurt, fear for their life, hate for their chances. Betrayal. He didn’t tell you did he? There is no openess in him. How could you ever trust him?
Not really a life for a girl like you is it? One who thrives on trust.

There was silence, Imra stopped struggling.

Leave him….

Imra let lose, pink energy pierced the light driving it back.
NO! Those tricks might work on the others but not on me.

Humans aren’t infallable, they can’t be heroes all the time. I love him and I’m not leaving him for you!

Imra held onto Garth tighter.
She gasped as she felt herself slip away she struggled to hold onto everything.
The world around her went black with one small opening of light above her. Gathering Garth’s mind she flew towards it, herself in one hand and Garth in the other.
It was gaining, she’d just reached it. Their minds holding her back.
She strained, before opening her hand letting one fall inot the darkness. With what was left of herself she pushed Garth’s towards the light.

The only outward sign of the struggle she showed was a slight furrowing of her brow and a small tear on her cheek.
Suddenly her eyes cleared revealing wide blue eyes, before she gave a faint gasp and collapsed to the ground.
