The "World of Heroes" DC RPG Season III

"Hell yeah Sinestro!" I chirp up. "I really want to shoot someone with my ring!"

I smile.

I send a blast of emerald energy at Sinestro before he can even ask...

I raise my ring to the energy and begin to absorb...

until I'm blasted backwards and skid along the ground!

My ring burns on my finger and my hand tingles. What the hells was that! I stand slowly, rubbing the bridge of my nose. I look at Gardner with anger in my eyes and venom in my voice. If my ring had any charge...well...I'd peel that smile off of his face.

"What. Do. You. Think. You. Are. Doing!" I growl. "Was that supposed to be funny?!?"

That's when I notice it. Gardner is not smiling. In fact, he looks...perplexed?

Imra glanced at the Question.

"Perhaps we could both move it. Do you think you have enough of a handle on the flight ring to coordinate our movements?" She asked

***Brainy any help..?***

"Wait, we might be able to disconnect something to turn it off." she said speaking into the air.

Following Brainy's mental words she walked around it, surveying it and sending him back information.

***Brainy it has a screen***

***Touch it! Spock do I have to do everything?***

Imra rolled her eyes and reached out to touch it. Jumping back at the sound of the voice.

"Tut, tut, tut! Not trying to move my little Venom-Bomb are you? That would be a bad idea, my simple-minded friend. You see, once the bomb is armed, it can't be moved. Moving it as far as you have, whoever you are, has triggered this pre-recorded message from your's truly. Move it much further, and we have...detonation."

"Now, I bet you're wondering what happens when this baby goes boom. Well, I'll tell you. My good pal Scarecrow designed this bomb for me. But it's not a traditional bomb, per se. No, it's a distribution propellent. When it goes BOOM! - Heh heh, did I make you jump? - it will release enough Joker Venom to poison everyone in the city. The perfect cure for The Unity, wouldn't you agree? HA HA!"

"Okay, so now you know what the bomb does. By the time you see this, you'll have probably seen what our smaller test-model was capable of. But this is the real deal. Move it, and the gas is released. Destroy it, and the gas is released. So how do you disarm it? Easy, with an access code...that only Scarecrow and myself know! HA HA! Oh dearie me, you ARE in a pickle, aren't you. Hasta la bye-bye! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!"

Imra gritted her teeth.
***Brainy..start working on this now. I don't have time for it.***

Imra turned from the bomb.
"Okay, there isn't anything we can do here. Let's go." she said walking towards the door and opening it.

Seconds after having woken up from his induced slumber, Zoom finally found his target. Skidding to a halt, he stopped just inches away from Saturn Girl.

"Sorry it took so long to find you, babe. I'm a little groggy from that nap, ya know?"

Zoom stepped toward Saturn Girl and backed her against a wall. He knew she could knock him out in a split second if she wanted to. He just didn't care.

"Just so you know, up until now, I barely knew you existed. You were not at the top of my priorities list. But now..."

Zoom leaned toward Saturn Girl and whispered into her ear.

"...you've been promoted to number two."

Zoom took a step back and folded his arms.

"Of course, my old buddy the Flash is still number one on my hit list. But you've got a special place in my heart now. You really should have just faded into obscurity and stayed there for awhile."

Zoom glanced at the Question. He began to wonder if the faceless man was entertaining thoughts of attacking him. Needless to say, that would be a stupid thing to do. He turned back to Saturn Girl, his once smirking face now deathly serious. He stared into her eyes with a burning rage that would shaken even the toughest person's composure.

"So, this is what's going to happen. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow...but someday soon...I'm going to come for you. I'm going to torture you for days. Before it's all over, you'll be begging me to put you out of your misery. And then...I'll let you live. I'll let you remember me for the rest of your life. Read my mind, Saturn Girl. Know that this is no idle threat."

Zoom turned his gaze toward the bomb.

"As for this bomb, and all of this Unity nonsense, you're on your own. You so-called 'heroes' are so manipulative. Thought you could have me do your dirty work and then just put me to sleep like a sick dog, did you? That's fine. Good luck disarming this thing. Here's hoping the Unity gets everyone you care about."

Zoom took another step toward Saturn Girl. They were now face to face. He looked down at her and smiled.

"Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to visit an old friend. When the time comes, I'll be back for you."

Suddenly, Zoom grabbed Saturn Girl by the back of her head, entangling her hair in his fist, and planted a kiss on her. After a couple of seconds, he broke the kiss and stepped back. He turned away and stared off into the distance. Looking back over his shoulder at her, he flashed a devilish grin.

"See you soon."

And with that, Zoom was off. He ran in the direction of Keystone City.

That's when I notice it. Gardner is not smiling. In fact, he looks...perplexed?

"Er... what the hell was that?" I ask out loud.

I look to my ring finger. It's sparking blue again.

"I think my ring," I look up at Sinestro, Hal and Bruce. "I think my ring's broken..."

"Where the hell is everyone?"

Kyle looked around. No one was following him, and he had no idea where he was going, or who was beind all of this. Then he heard the blast from back in the prison. Making a 180, he flew back through the hole in the wall. Guy and Sinestro looked like they may rip each other up at any second.

"Now what?"

"You think your ring is broken!?! Someone provide me with a recharge so I can show this...this...Lantern, if you can call him that, how a ring is supposed to work."

I walk right up to Gardner and punch him across the face. He falls to the floor. The tingle in my hand worsens, but it was worth it.

I look down at him. "Hmmm...perhaps it is broken. Or, more likely, you just don't know how to really use it."

"COOL IT!"

Kyle wrapped Sinestro up in a green straight jacket.

"You're one to talk about not knowing how to use a ring, you back stabbing piece of trash. Now, I don't even know why you're here, or why everyone is putting up with you, but I need some answers now."

"You yellow son of a!"

My ring glows green... then blue... then fizzles out.

I don't need my ring for this.

I walk up to Sinestro in his straight jacket, and punch him squarely on the jaw.

"Once a traitor, always a traitor!"

I spit blood on the floor and look Gardner in the eye. "Excellent. You can strike a defensless man."

My ring is making contact with the construct holding me. So I pull a brief charge from Rayner and use it to break free with my forcefield. I then blast Gardner in the chest with a beam, knocking him back to the floor.

"Although you should make sure that they are truly defenseless." My ring shutsdown. Depleted of power again.

Damn.

"Enough!"

Kyle pointed his ring, crackling with energy, at Sinestro while he addressed Guy.

"Stay dow. You're no good with a busted ring. And you..."

Kyle turned back to Sinestro.

"You've got no power. I have full power. Now we can stand around like a bunch of little babies and beat the snot out of each other, or we can go save the city. Now, if I were you, I'd chose the latter, because I'm pretty sure I knwo who's gonna win a fight."

Kyle took a mental step back, shocked at the amount of focus and responsibilty he was displaying. He'd made a promise to someone very special, right after he got his ring, that he had become "Mr. Responsibility." It had taken a long time and a lot of searching, but he was finally fullfilling his promise.

"Clock's ticking."

I cross my arms over my chest, turning to face Rayner while keeping one eye on Gardner.

"Impressive." I say. "Someone who knows how to act like a Lantern. I am here to learn from you heroes, so I believe 'saving the city' is the proper option."

I spare a quick glance over to Gardner. "Of course, I will need a fully charged ring to do so. Tell me, Rayner, do you keep your lantern within a dimensional fold for easy, quick access?"

My ring is burning... I hear Kyle say something.

Can't make it out.

Sinestro hit me... b***ard.

My hand feels like its on fire.

I groan, and roll around on the floor.

This feels worse than when my Warrior genes rejected my body...

Things were getting a little too hot for me. I have big plans, and none of them involve letting Batman take me back to Arkham. I knew I would run into him eventually, but I am out of fear toxin and no match for him and two Lanterns at this point.

No one has seen me yet; they are all distracted by the Joker and Mr. Freeze. I should be able to slip away relatively undetected. I stay in the shadows and move with silence as I make my way towards the exit. By now all the heroes were assembling on the roof of the prison and the sky was shinning a bright green. I saw two more Green Lanterns hovering over the prison. Smart move on my part to escape when I did.

I make my way down to the water where I have secretly hidden a row boat just incase something like this did happen. I untie the boat and shove it off into the water. I jump in and as quietly and quickly as I can, I start to row. When I reach the shore and I stay to the shadows making sure as to not be seen. I have to get to my lab to make more fear toxin. These heroes were lucky I was out of it this time, but soon they will all know what it truly means to be afraid…

After what seems like hours, I finally make it back to my laboratory. I pull my mask off when i get inside so i can catch my breath. I do not have enough chemicals to make a lot of my fear toxin, just enough to pull a robbery to get more. I get to work on it immediately. Mixing the chemicals together in the many beakers scattered across my lab table. It is a formula I have used so many times in my life that I don’t even have it written down anymore. The toxin is nearing completion, they only thing left is to decide where to pull the job.

Suddenly, I hear a noise in the dark, far corner of the lab. Sounds like someone moving around. The light in that part of the room is out so I have to go over there to see what the noise was. I load my fear toxin into my gloves. I search every inch of the darkness and find nothing. I turn around and come face to face with…

“BOO!”

He then jumped up into the air and landed a swift kick to my face which sent me to the ground.

“Did I scare you?”...

Kyle hesitated uneasily, though he kept a firm stance in fron of the other heroes. Sinestro had once been the Lantern's greatest warrior, then their mortal foe. The encounters he had heard of between the traitor and Hal Jordan were the things of legends. And now, he wanted a charge from Kyle's lantern?

He stole a quick glance at Hal. He seemed to be at terms with, if not comfortable, with Sinestro being there. And he offered no rejections.

Summoning the power of his ring, Kyle pulled apart the very fabric of time and space, reaching into nothingness to produce his own power battery, his lantern. Thinking for a second, he handed it over to Sinestro, eyeing him uneasily, his own ring crackling with power the whole time.

I raise up into the sky...

I'm feeling bad here...

Did I say that, or just think it...

A bright light surrounds me...

It's agonizing...

Why aren't they helping me...

Again, Rayner has impressed me. Offering me his lantern with so little argument. Apparently he does not remember me taking a charge from his ring while he slept during a short stay of his on Earth. Either he is more of an idiot than Gardner, or he is a very quick judge of character. Maybe this is the foundation of trust I have been looking for since coming back to this planet.

"Thank you, but no. I have had...bad experiences with lanterns. I would like to take the charge from your ring. Then you should be able to recharge from your lantern."

Speaking of Gardner, it is then I take notice that he is still on the floor, writhing around. My attack could not have done that much damage. I turn to Jordan and Rayner. "It appears your fellow Corps member may be in need of some assisstance." I smile inside. Seeing Gardner in pain...it truly is the little things that make life worth living.

A bright blast of light shoots out from my body.

I rocket up into the sky, with no control.

I'm flying faster than i ever have with the ring before.

Whats wrong with me?

It hurts so much.

I must be a couple miles up in the sky when I stop.

My body explodes with pain, seinding a blue energy blast in all directions...

Gardner shoots into the sky, covered in blue...not green...but blue.

How odd.

"Does this happen often?" I ask the others.

I watched in something akin to facination as the 3-and-1-former Green Lanterns were conversing. I was about to remind them why we're here when--

Guy shoots out into the sky and explodes into blue.

"...What the hell just happened?"

The Parasite sighed. He wasn't quite sure where he stood with all that was going on. He had been betrayed and manipulated, but still, he stood by the Unity. Now they were gathering more troops to make up for the loss of Clark. Oh well. At least now Rudy would get the chance to kill Kent with his bare hands. But at what cost...?

The Unity reached out to Jones' mind. Raymond? You wish for the feeling of satisfaction?

"I-- Yeah, I guess so." It seemed wierd, but the Unity's presence inside of his head wasn't like all of the other personalities he had absorbed from hundreds of other people. It felt like... well, for lack of a better term, it felt like God was speaking to him.

Suddenly, a holographic global map of the earth illuminated the area infront of Rudy, Slade, and Sparky. The map was about the size of a small house and showed the landmasses were glowing almost entirely in blue, but there were several miniscule clusters of red lights standing out against the blue.

Before you, you will see how we have progressed. The blue lights represent the number of my followers on this planet. As you can see, we have taken nearly all of your Northern America, Asia, and are rapidly spreading throughout parts of Europe.

Rudy pointed at the red lights, contrasting against the bright blue. "Lemme guess what those are; they're resistance, right?"

Indeed they are, Raymond. As you can see, most of the world's greatest cities are ours. Metropolis, London, New York, Paris, Tokyo, Moscow. There are, of course, small pockets of resistance in many parts of the world.

Rudy examined the small red points on the globe situated in parts of Mexico, Keystone, Fawcett, Star, and a few others. They weren't exactly huddled together in an intimidating manner, but there were quite a few of them if you added them up.

But the one city that remains a constant threat, and has been a major powerbase for the resistance is... Gotham.

"I ain't goin' back to Gotham so soon after that. Well, at least not the harbor," Jones grumbled.

You will not be required to do so, Raymond. For we have two proverbial aces up our sleeves.

The Parasite knew, at least partially, what the Unity was referring to. He looked at Garth and grinned. Rudy was then confused. "Who's the second guy?"

Supergirl said:
"Thank you Diana. I am confused as to why I need to see her, but I have a feeling..."

She smiled at Wonder Woman, then quickly winced in pain from the still healing bruises on her face.

"Remind me not to laugh for a couple weeks..."

"Thank Rao, Kal. I thought you were lost to us. It was so hard to force myself to fight you."

She winced one more time as she sat up and hugged her cousin.

"I'm still a little sore, but the world needs us. Shall we go? Kal, you probably have the best insight on how to beat this thing."

Diana remembers a voice in her head. Something she heard while being used as a weapon by Zoom on Superman.

Diana says in a low voice.

"The Speedforce. Something about the Speedforce."

She looks over at Kara.

"I don't know what it means, but it has something to do with The Unity. Does that mean anything to you two?"

"I guess that makes me, one of those aces" a voice spoke out from nowhere.

"Let me introduce, a new member to our cause, i believe some of you have met him before..."

And out of shadows a white silhouette of a skull was seen.

"The Red x" continued Unity.

The pains gone.

I feel... different.

My ring isn't green anymore... it's blue.

I can feel it isn't running on my will power, if the colour change wasn't enough of a clue.

The blue energy disipates around me.

I begin to lower back down to the harbour to see if everyone is allright.

"What is it?" I ask.

They're looking at me weird.

"What?!"

BlueLantern.gif

"Yowza!" exclaimed The Joker, "A wrestling match, followed by a fireworks display! You Green Lantern folk sure do know how to provide a great night's entertainment! Are you available for birthday parties? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

The Joker had just scrambled back to his feet. He'd really been levelled by that right hook from Batman. Wincing with pain, he cracked his wrist back into place. How many times had it been broken now?

"You've really got to lay off the ol' wrist, Batsy," he groaned, "It's getting harder and harder to enjoy Playclown Magazine."

Despite the pain, however, things were going well. With Harley Quinn out there with Mr. Freeze, and him here with the do-gooders, he was involved in the two main resistance groups fighting The Unity. And Batman may have taken his ring, but if there was one thing ol' Brucie should have learned about The Joker by now, it was that he always had a Plan B...

"I'm coming with you guys," The Joker announced, "I don't mean to be rude, but the prospect of the world's free-will being defended by a bunch of fascists makes me a little uncomfortable. I can bring a... fresh perspective to your little club. I know all the criminal networks in Gotham, and may be able to use my contacts to provide some back-up on the streets. And, should you finally decide to see the bigger picture, I have the most potent weapon for killing The Unified at my disposal."

The Joker looked around at the group that surrounded him. 2 Green Lanterns - 3 if you count the one that blew up. Sinestro. And, of course, The Big, Bad Bat. If his plan was going to succeed, he was going to need some major league back-up. And this would do nicely.

"And besides, you're all so dull! You need someone with a bit of charisma working with you, unless you plan to bore The Unity to death! HA HA!"

"So, are we going after The Joker to get the code, or checking the files?"

Imra bit her lip.
"Files." she said tersely.

Thats when she felt Zoom. she felt him moving and then he was standing in front of her.
"Sprock, he is fast."

"Sorry it took so long to find you, babe. I'm a little groggy from that nap, ya know?"

He stepped towards her pressing her against the wall. He was close and had slowed down a little so she was able to lock onto him and he knew it.

"Just so you know, up until now, I barely knew you existed. You were not at the top of my priorities list. But now..."

His breath tickled her ear. No one had ever been that close to her besides Garth. Oh Garth..
She gave him a level look and didn't flince away.

"...you've been promoted to number two."

He stepped back and folded his arms across his chest. Imra put a little pressure in his mind to let him know she had him.

"Of course, my old buddy the Flash is still number one on my hit list. But you've got a special place in my heart now. You really should have just faded into obscurity and stayed there for awhile."

Zoom glanced over at The Question and then turned his gaze back to her. His eyes burning and his face serious.
She stared right into them. She'd been in the S.P and she was a Legionnaire.

He stepped forward his face near hers and gazed down at her.

"Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to visit an old friend. When the time comes, I'll be back for you."
"So glad you don't leave a girl hanging."
She though before feeling an intent tickle her mind. She didn't have time to react to it. Zoom pulled her too him and reached his fingers into her hair. Pulling her close in a kiss.
He was strong Imra physically struggled and had just reaached herslef into his mind when he pulled back.

"See you soon."
He said zipping off towards Keystone City.

"Where is the Flash?" She asked mentally stopping Zoom for a split second before letting him go. He shoudl have paused somewhere between Metropolis and Keystone City for a split second.

She turned to the Question calmly thinking about the nickname she'd been given in the Legion: "Ice Maiden." There was a reason for it, and Zoom had been the perfect example.

"Where would we be looking?"
