The "World of Heroes" DC RPG Season III

"Am i the only one who heard some chicks voice in my head just then?"

"OK, so now I have a new directive. Batman, you still need a ride, or is it new plan time?"

"Yes, we don't have enough time at this point to beat the information out of Joker. The sooner we get to Metropolis, the better."

"What about us?"

I look at Bat's and Hal.

"Where should we go?"

"My suggestion would be to find Wonder Woman's group, and if their plan works, engage it. I will be there after the business in Metropolis is over with."

"Ok, if the rest of you guys try and find Diana, i'm going to head to Central City,"

Batman looks at me in a odd way.

"She said to find Bart or Wally right?"

"Well, makes sense to look there first. Plus I can check the place out for Unity,"

"Now, this is more like it."

Kyle's ring charged up, cloaking him in a familiar green glow. Sure, this wasn't going to be the Justice League he knew and remembered, but it was close enough for now. Besides, there were bigger things to worry about, and precious time was slipping away.

"Now, who wants me where?"

Imra stepped onto the roof, heading for the edge. The heroes in Gotham were busy at work and she was still trying to figure out what exactly Question and her had learned that would help.

She felt like popping their synapses. Didn't they know that by contacting the Unity directly she could be unified?
Imra rolled her eyes; she could actually use a joking comment from Garth right about now. She hugged herself, feeling alone. She usually worked in a team or as a leader, she always had a responsibility. Now she had none and it threw her ‘off.’
Superman’s voice came over her telepathic one way link she’s established.

"I don't think that will work. This telepath, Saturn Girl, is surely powerful, but, as Batman can confirm, the Unity's power is immense. If she's compromised and taken by the Unity, Saturn Girl could potentially 'unify' people just by looking at them. Not exactly the best case scenario."

“I wouldn’t even have to look at them.” She shivered. Being under something that powerful. She’d never once abused her powers and to even think about it now…A womans voice interuppted her.

***"Attention Former JLA members and allies. This is Wonder Woman. Although we have disbanded, I'm sending this signal through our old comm lines. Hopefully everyone still has theirs. I'm also sending this communique to all the heroes and villains I've worked with in this campaign via the power of The Martian Manhunter. He has agreed to send this to you telepathically. I'm sending this signal because Jay Garrick and I have a plan to stop the Unity's influence throughout the planet. We have the Cosmic Treadmill and are positioning it in a safe place on the globe. We feel that a steady speedforce field can reduce or possibly remove the Unity's control over the populace. We still need one or two more speedsters. Everyone's priority should be to find Wallace West and Bart Allen. Superman and Supergirl are already on the case for finding those two but recruiting them to our cause should be everyone's primary mission.

As for the rest of you, once we find a way to remove the Unity's influence, you must find the Unity in it's headquarters and destory it. I suggest that Hal heads up that taskforce. Find the Unity and stike at it's heart. Once we have established the Speedforce Field, the rest of us will join you.

You who have heard this message, spread the word to our allies. We will need their help.

On a final note, I want you to look around you. I want you to look in the face of the people united together. Perhaps the Unity Crisis can bring us together. Just as it predicted. Some good can come from this. The Earth cannot go unprotected. We must never turn our backs on our duty again.

When we triumph over the Unity, I propose that we form a New Justice League. And when we do triumph, we will not forget what has happened. The faces surrounding you will proudly say, "I was there. I fought the Unity. I shed blood with these few. These lucky few."

Now go with Athena's blessings.

Wonder Woman out."***

Imra turned to the Question.

"You think it'll work?"

Something beeped.

Imra turned around and glanced at the bomb. It sat there apparently untouched however danger seemed to be stuck to it. She walked towards it; the screen had figures flashing on it.
It was counting down, in what seemed like no particular order.

***BRAINY! We have a situation!***

She could feel his deep sigh and irritated thoughts over the link. She also included the Question in the conversation; it was easier to let him follow than to try to explain it all later.
Humans were so limited by vocal communication.

**How far has it counted down?**

***I don’t know the numbers seem random.***

**No pattern at all?**

***Brainy, it’s the Joker.*** She commented sending him the numbers as they flashed across the screen.

There was a pause as Brainy thought them over.

**Good point. I see no particular pattern in it…**

Imra tilted her head.

***Joker tipped his hand.*** She said allowing both Brainy and Question to know that the other heroes knew about the bomb.

*** Hold on a minute*** She commented to the two of them, blocking off their thoughts she concentrated on sending a message to the other heroes.

***The bomb is on top of Lexcorp Tower. Question and I are here now, I suggest you come immediately. And unless you plan on beating the code out of the Joker bring him as well.***

OOC: Soze, if you don't like the random numbers thing I'll fix it and the whole "Imra found it thing" can be changed too.....

"Thats up to you and Sinestro, Kyle,"

I say with a glint in my eye.

"Looks like you two are incharge,"

I power up my ring. I levitate a little way into the sky.

"Keep an eye on him Kyle. You guys have to find Diana, like Bat's said."

I turn to the sky.

"See you guy's in a while,"

The ring's influence is slipping slightly as I say:

"And try not to die any of you!"

And i'm off, flying to Central City.

"Come with us. It's about time me and you had a talk."

I will up a rocketship and Batman and the Joker step inside. I reinforce the construct around Joker a little bit more than everyone else, just in case.

Then we blast off towards Metropolis.

Kyle watched Guy disappear into the distance.

"I really hate him."

He turned to Hal as he boarded the rocketship.

"OK man, talk. We got some time to kill."

The Joker sat in the bizarre rocketship designed by The Green Lantern. He smiled quietly to himself. For a while, he'd been concerned his plan may fail. But everything was back on track. The Joker had everyone right where he wanted them. The rest depended on Harley...

Oh joy. This is turning out to not be my day. I suppose now is the time to do what we humans do in dire situations.

Pray.

I've been flying only ten minutes when I reach Central City.

The ring was right earlyier: I am faster with this blue ring.

The old Corp's ring would have taken me about thirty minutes...

I shrug it off as I land next to the Flash museum.

"Where are you West?" I utter to myself.

"Ring, begin scanning the immediate area for subject Walter West,"

The ring buzz's into action.

I look around. Central is deserted.

Maybe they got wiped out like Bludhaven.

No bodies though.

Odd.

I look through the old museum. Barry Allen. Jay Garrick.

Legends. I actually feel proud to be one of the people who fought alongside them.

This ring is definetely doing something to my head.

I wonder if this is for the best. The ring turning blue.

It's linked to the Unity.

What if this is all just me turning slowly into the Unity's goon guy.

I can't even take the ring off. Fused to my skin.

I don't know if I would to tell you the truth.

What am I without the ring?

I'm Guy Gardner, nobody. Bar owner.

Wow.

That's a great legacy to leave the world.

I haven't got a family. My love life is non-existant.

That's not changing anytime soon.

So all I have is who this ring makes me.

It makes me a Hero. I know Bat's and the rest hate that fact, but I am a Hero.

I'm more blunt than them. More honest. But i'm still a good guy at the heart of it.

What if this ring is making me into someone i'm not... turning me into the villain of the piece.

I don't want that legacy. I don't want to be Sinestro, or Jordan.

They have to live with the fact they went bad, that they killed.

I don't want to be a killer. I don't want to be the badguy.

I believe in Strength. Not only the physical strength that I always shout loud about, but mental strength. Strength of will.

My will power was the only thing that made me unique among the Lanterns... I had buckets to spare.

What if my will power isn't enough against this Ring? What does that make me? It makes me a villain, but it also makes me justa nother fallen lantern doesn't it?

I hate having the time to think about this stuff. I look around once more.

"Where are you Wally..."

Garth did not appreciate the Parasite’s comments that included taking his place and taking out Imra. Despite being alone and, consequently, out of his league against the Parasite, Garth straightened himself and looked the purple behemoth dead in his inhuman eyes.
“You will not lay a hand on her”, he said firmly and in a much colder tone than what someone would imagine Garth would be capable of.

Part of Garth was relieved that he wouldn’t have to physically fight the Parasite to keep him from killing Imra, but he did not let that part show. He just stood his ground and, eventually, took his eyes off of the Parasite and went back to paying attention to the Unity.

Garth let it all sink in before asking, “So, you want me just to go undercover then? Both Imra and the Question saw me vanish. Imra’s probably tried psi-scanning for me already and will know that I’ve been off planet. I suppose I could always say that you took me and offered me a job working for you, but I turned you down. That would work.”

Garth raised his new arm into the air, “Course, there’d be the problem with this. If I turned you down, then I wouldn’t have this nice, new arm.”

Putting the arm back to his side, Garth asked the Unity, “You got any way that I can mask it? Make it look like it’s still my messed up, mechanical arm?”
Certainly, Garth Ranzz.

Suddenly, silver threads of metallic material began to weave themselves around Garth's arm, eventually covering his new arm and forming the appearance of the same texture and shape that he had had in his old prostetic arm.

It is done. This illusion of the metallic alloy can be removed at any time you wish, exposing your new arm for what it truly is. Now you have a duty to fulfill. I trust you to complete it and make me proud.

The Parasite watched the goings on infront of him. He sat in his chair and waited until Unity was done hiding Sparky's new arm. Once that ordeal was over, Rudy stood up and looked at the glowing blue orb. "Alright U, now that junior's gotta new arm ta do God-knows-what with it, mind tellin' me what you were talkin' about with the whole 'improving yer biology' thing ya said to me?"

With pleasure, Raymond. You see, you have a very obvious weakness that our enemies have exploited several times now. Your cells are highly unstable and do not retain energy as easily as other humanoids do.

Rudy was excited as he tried to predict what the Unity was going to tell him. "Holy s**t! Yer gonna make the energy I steal be premanent, ain't ya?!"

No.

The Parasite grunted in confusion.

If I were to grant you that ability, your ego would surely reach a level that not even I would be able to control. Instead, I will stabilize your body to a certain degree. To put it in layman's terms Raymond, I am going to insulate your cells to protect them from short circuiting when in contact with the conflicting elements of Water and electricity.

"Eh, I'll take what I can get." The Parasite shrugged his shoulders as he was covered in a blue light. Once the process was complete, Rudy looked at the orb again. "Done yet?"

Yes.

Looking to his monitors, the Octopus is enraged by what he sees. Someone has done something to make this world unconquerable. This would not stand. He is soon seen barking orders at a Sleeper he planted in Buckingham Palace. The Royal Famly always had it in for him. the Sleeper was told to keep an eye out. Several more agents are notified.

"My sincerest apologies, Gentlemen. My hand has been forced. The order has been placed. The Illuminati, for what good they'll do, the Un-Men, the ninjas, etcetera. I've even been forced to forge an alliance with that gloryhound Kobra. I must go now; The Psycho Pirate shall accompany me, and... I suppose I'll just leave you here. Don't worry. I have some daisy cutters to keep you company."

With that, he flew. Bursting through his own roof. The urgency was clear. He was worried.

"Daisy Cutters. We're goners, we..."

The next thing I knew, we were off. How? I learned to stop asking questions out loud, because it would get me nowhere.

'Subject Walter West cannot be found at this time in Central City.'

The ring's a fine waste of time it would seem.

I hear a noise behind me. I turn around.

Coming out of the 'Flash of Ages' Exobition room is a woman. Looks to be in her thirties. Cute. But this don't make ANY sense. She shouldn't be here. No-ones here.

"Silly Goose, did you get lost?" She asks, in a chirpy over excited manner.

"Er... excuse me lady?"

"Well you just seem to be so darn lost in your own world, I wondered if you had gotten seperated from us,"

I look at her.

"Seperated from what?"

"Why you big goof ball!" She smiles, pure as anything i've ever seen. "From the Unity silly!"

I look at her. She's one of the Unity? But she seems to have a personality. Those Unity goons all sound like lame extra's in 50's sitcoms.

"You're with the Unity?" I ask.

She looks at me, and her smile remains as sickly sweet as ever. "Of course i'm with the Unity, the only other option is pain and misery,"

"But you seem..." I struggle to find the word. "More vibrant than other members i've seen,"

"Oh you're talking about the grunts, you big lug!" She looks at me in a sultry fashion. "I'm a 'Demi'"

I look at her, perplexed. "A demi?"

"Of course!" She is practically manic as she giggles away. "Someone has to make sure the grunts don't starve to death. Being one with the Unity makes for a blissful existance, but it also leaves the members of our big happy family a little lax in what they see as the non-essential parts of life"

"So you're middle management?"

She just smiles at me, as if she doesn't understand what i'm saying, but she doesn't want to offend. God help me, if the world isn't turning into the politically correct hell hole that everyone wanted so bad.

Suddenly something hits me. "Wait a minute... you said you wondered if i got seperated... lost..."

I look at her. "People can become seperated from the Unity?"

The smile fades from her face, but still no sign of anger.

"Silly Rabbit, you're Trix are for kids," She starts moving towards me. "They won't work on me, no sir! Won't get me betraying the Unity's secrets so easily"

She's getting too close for comfort.

I lift up my ring arm, and send a wave of energy at her.

She stands looking at me.

"Wha?" I utter.

The smile returns. "You're hitting me with pure order, what more could a honest Unity gal like me want?"

C**p. Ring is useless. Can't touch her, I become Unity. Can't shoot her, cos that makes her stronger.

Well Guy Gardner, what a fine mess you've gotten yourself into...

IC: Wally West
Queens, New York City

It's about 9:30 at night and I am bored out of my freakin mind. It's times like this I miss my old line of work.

"500 channels and nothing to watch."

"Told you you shoulda gotten gold. Coulda been watching some sweet lesbo action right now."

The Silent Bob lookalike with the Foreigner T-shirt next to me is my roommate Ted. I honestly don't know why I roomed with him. He pays for like nothing and basicly mooches off of me...He's like an out of shape Guy.

Ted scratches his nuts with his cheese dust covered hands...He looks at his hand and then his crotch-- "...eh." and he puts his hands right back in the bag. "You want some, man?" He says holding out the bag...That was my bag.

I cringe at him disgusted. "...I think I'll go for a walk."

"Suit yourself man. I'm orderin' 'backdoor bangers 6'."

"You payin' for it this time right." I say getting my coat.

"Yeah, sure."

"You promise?"

"What am I? Your girlfriend. Yes I'll pay for it you knob-gobbler."

...Chuck full of charm that guy. Makes Guy look like the queen of England. I just roll my eyes and head out the door.

Pretty cool night. Clear street. The usual gang kids aren't hangin around so I got nothing to worry about. Not gonna push my luck though. I mean with the luck I have they'll all come out of their rat holes simultaniously and bash my head in, and I don't have medical insurance here...Should have moved to Canada. I head over to the corner store to pick up a new bag of cheetos and a bottle of pepsi while I'm at it. Friggin place is blasting spanish reggae. Why don't these stores ever play good music?...<sighs> I'll never get used to this. I miss Keystone already...Speak of the devil.

I look at a newspaper with a huge "ZOMBIES" printed across it and "Keystone City, Land of the Braindead?" underneath a pic of a crowd of smiling people.

"...hmm...Times must be desperate for news, eh Eddie."

"<yawns>Whatever. That all?"

What a conversationalist.

"...Yeah...Yeah, that's all."

I grab my paper bag and head out...Man can this place get lonely at times...I miss the Unity of Keystone and Central. The friendly people. How you can spark up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, at any time...I miss my friends. I miss my "job"...I miss my life...This life isn't for--

Just then I notice a gang of teenagers harassing a girl. She couldn't have been over 16. They're laughing and pushing her around and fondling her. Some making kissy faces and grabbing her in no way a 16 year old girl should be grabbed. That's when this one guy slaps her to the ground and they pick her up, kicking and screaming for help, and they dissapear into an alley.

I was in shock. I didn't know what to do here. I franticly checked my pockets for a cell phone but found nothing but my keys and wallet...S**t. Borrowed it to Ted...Voices in my head telling me not to do what I'm thinking about doing. That without my powers I'm nothing. I can't do anything and even then, I can't cover the damages. I don't have that kind of money. I could be killed even--I didn't even notice but by the time I'm in mid-thought, I'm staring down that alley.

I slowly put my bag down on a side and I pick up a glass bottle and hide it up my sleeve.

"...h-hey!"

One guy glances at me and just ignores me as this other guy is on top of her ripping her clothes off. I better do this fast.

"HEY! STOP IT!"

That's when they all turn around to see me. Some of them those same kids that hang around my block.

"Yo, mind your buisness cracka and we won't stomp your flat ass!" the one on top of her said before going right back to what he was doing. I took a deep breath, and started to walk into the mob. There must be about 8 of em...This is either the stupidest or bravest thing I'll ever do...Or both.

I catch the big one's attention. He must be at least 6'6...Yeah, definately the stupidest.

"Yo man! You deaf?! He said--"

I kick him in the knee and smash the bottle over the side of his head. That caught their attention. Another one swings at me and I block it and hook him in the face and elbow another in the stomach followed by a hook to his face. heh. I think I might actually win. Just maybe I can save this girl's life.

That's what I thought before things got hairy. The big guy grabs me around the neck and the guy that was on top of her socks me a few times in the ribs and then a huge hook to my right eye that sends me to the dirty pavement. The girl isn't there anymore. She's either really smart or really selfish...Or both.

I'm blacking in and out as I get my face and body kicked in. A few teeth missing. Ribs too. The copper taste of blood in my mouth. This is the lowest I've ever been. What am I doing here? I'm just some suburban white kid from middle America. I have no buisness here. I'm not welcome and they're showing me just how much.

That's when I see the red and blue lights flashing. The sound is muffled but even I know cops when I see em. That's when they scatter like roaches. They always do...Yeah...definately a smart girl...

“Great”, said Garth in a distant voice as he looked over the disguise.

“Well, time to get to work.”

With that, Garth disappeared from the Unity’s ship…reappearing on the rooftops of Metropolis. The heroes had not arrived yet, so Garth had time to sit and think on what all had transpired recently. He was in bed with the Unity. A powerful entity bent on bringing order to the world. It’s order. But, was that really so bad? From the images the Unity had shown him, the planets that had been unified in the past knew nothing but peace. If the Earth became unified, there would be no more war, no more crime…no more senseless death.
But, what of Imra? Garth knew in his heart that she would not agree with his choice. She would think he was being influenced by the Unity. That it has poisoned his mind. It would be difficult to convince her why he joined up with the thing. She did not see or feel the true bliss that he felt when he viewed those other worlds.

Garth’s inner contemplations were cut short though as he noticed an emerald craft approaching from the north. It was time to get in character.
Garth flew to the street below, stopping just a few feet from the ground. Hovering there, he looked around at the dozens of unified people ambling about.
Over half turned to regard him, speaking in unison, “Hello, Garth Ranzz. May we be of assistance?”
“Wow…creepy”, thought Garth to himself.
“Uh, yeah…you probably already know why I’m here, so I need you to play along for me. I’m going to herd you all back into some buildings and lock you in. Make it look like I’m trying to reduce your numbers on the streets, keep you contained.”

“Of course, Garth Ranzz. We are happy to be of help in your mission”, said dozens of unified people all at once.

“I’ll don’t think I’ll ever get used to that”, Garth said, under his breath.

“Get used to what, Garth Ranzz?”

“Uh…nothing…don’t worry about it.”

“Now”, said Garth as he powered up and began blasting at the unified, keeping the presence of mind to only be using his ‘good’ arm and not the disguised one, trying to herd them into nearby buildings, “let’s get this herd a’ movin’.”
The unified played their part well, resisting as best they can. But, Garth kept driving them back into buildings and melting the doors shut with his lightning blasts. The heroes should just be getting into range now and should easily see his fireworks display as he tried his best to contain the unified people of Metropolis. There was nothing more Garth could do save for continue to corral the unified and hope that the heroes noticed him, though they’d have to be off in their own little world not to spot him.

Imra ignored him for a few minutes as she dealt with the bomb situation.
She then looked at him sideways and couldn't help but comment.

"I'm no exactly 'human'"

A flash of light caught the corner of her eye.

Turning her head she could see flashes of lightening dance across the sky.

"Garth?"

Her whole body urged her to fly to him, her mind held her back. Garth was just fine, she did a quick scan to make ure he was in one piece and then turned her back to fireworks display and focused on the bomb.

She stared at it a second before glancing up into the sky.

It was controlled momente like this that lead to her nicknames at the Legion Headquarters. Unapprochable, firm, cold. She didn't mean to be that way, however the control of the mind wasn't easy and her Science Police training had been strict.

She thought back to what she'd done with Rokk.

" The fact that Garth would even look at you after that says something about him. You knew he loved you so long before."

She cut herself off.

She received a grunt.

I have no idea if my ring will protect me, no idea if it will stop me from being turned.

One way to find out I guess.

I charge this woman, and hit her.

Well I still feel like Guy Gardner. The new rational Guy Gardner, but I still want to hit things, so it can't have worked.

Sheilds still working then.

I run past her and into the main hall of the Flash Museum.

I'm just about to run out the front door when I see them.

It's like a scene from every zombie movie i've ever seen.

Hoards of the Unified. Man, if no-one else does, i'm so bagging the rights to that name and making a film of this when we win. Well, IF we win.

I turn around, and Suzie Q (I call the self proclaimed Demi Suzie Q) is still walking towards me.

This is gonna hurt her a lot more than it hurts me.

I use my ring to grap a hold of the statue of Barry that stands in the main hall, and I hurl it at her. I send her flying through the wall.

Man, if they're all this dumb, maybe we'll win.

The Red X said:
X sitting on the back seat of the rocketship, noticed the joker looking pleased with himself.
"what are you so happy about?"

The Joker turned round to face the young upstart. He hadn't even realised he'd got on the rocketship. Oh well, one more wasn't going to make too much difference...

"Oh, I'm just thinking how much fun this little adventure is," he replied, "But are you sure you should be joining us? Isn't it past your bed-time? HA HA!"

The Joker looked out at the rapidly approaching Metropolis skyline. They were almost there.

"Now, we should land on the roof of the Lexcorp Building."

"Any reason we should land there happy?"
