Wondergirl

As the new Lantern and Zach start to encase the mutated people of Star City in a bubble, I begin to feel the last of my strength waining. I fall to my knees, and Megan helps me up, "Are you okay?"

"No," I smile weakly at my friend. "These damn rabies have taken everything out of me. The magic is keeping back the deadly symptoms, but I don't have any strength left. If these things break through, I'll get torn to pieces within minutes."

She nods to me, "I get it. Hey Conner! Cassie's in pretty bad shape. I'm going to get her away from the front lines!"

We lift off the ground, and she places me on a rooftop further down the street, "You should be fine here."

"Yea, great," I reply, obviously frustrated. "I can't wait to watch."

Terrific. I come back to the team and in our first fight I'm basically completely useless. This was not the situation I was hoping for at all. Let's just hope this isn't permanent and I back in the field soon. Because I'm not sure I can take letting down the team again.

Slade Wilson moved through the shadows like a jungle cat stalking his prey. And stalking his prey he was. Dinah Lance, Black Canary, was present just before he had died. She had been there, comforting Harper's child after she had lost her eye. Of course, revenge was an issue for Harper alone. The man had killed him. Before he died, this wouldn't have been an issue - purely business. But since Darkseid had brought him back...the rage had consumed him. Not the usual cold anger that had filled his body just before pulling the trigger, but a fiery fury that burnt in every inch of his body.

Desiring blood. To hurt, to maim, to kill, to die. To do all of these things, to do them for Darkseid. But Darkseid was dead and he, Slade, remained. It wasn't good for business to hate. But he did. And he needed to cleanse it from his system. Perhaps killing him and his whole adopted family, ruining him, perhaps that would make him feel better.

Dinah was first. It was simply unfortunate that she didn't have her guard up. He gripped the knife in his hand and leapt at her. He needed to feel it. To feel the blood again.

She sensed, somehow, and rolled him over her shoulder, jumping on top of him and pinning his hands down. He had misjudged it. The blood rage was distracting. He came back to himself. Felt the cool air breeze over his mask, saw the stars in the dark night's sky, heard Dinah's heavy breathing as she knelt over him. He grinned. A true fight. He had forgotten.

"Why Dinah my dear," he hissed "Did you miss me?"

Pain.

Anger.

Hunger.

Kill.

Look up. See dark man hurting master. No one hurts master. Kill dark man.

"RAAAAAAAAAGGHHH!!!!"

Roar at dark man, charge. Jump at dark man, but crash through wall. Stop far away from house, floating in sky.

Too strong, can't control strength. Went too far.

Look back for dark man. Focus sight....see underground. See too far. Cannot find dark man.

Fly to house, find man to kill. Crush wall. Crush ceiling. Want to find dark man and crush him.

"Rrrrrrgghhh......."

See through walls to find him. See too far again, look right through dark man. Need to hear him, smell him.....then kill him.

Superman, or what he used to be, flies around blindly and unaware. The ceiling begins to shake and the walls crumble with each pass. I drop my taser gun and turn just as Superman crashes through the wall and grabs me.

We fly out of the White House and I grapple with the feral animal that was once my friend. His claws dig into my back and break the skin. I wince and struggle against his iron grip. "Clark," I say through gritted teeth. "Let me go!"

I free an arm and spray Superman in the face with an aerosol compound of the antidote. He roars and swats at his face. Letting me go fifty feet above the ground. I freefall for a moment before letting my cape go rigid and gliding to the ground. Superman struggles and fights against the compound up in the air. It's not as fast acting as ingesting or mainlining the antidote, but he'll be back to normal in a few minutes.

I just hope I can survive against him for that time.

Marvel flies out of the White House and using the speed of Mercury flies throughout the country and finds Firestorm.

Firestorm gives him some of the antidote in a powder form and Marvel flies quickly back to the White House.

He then proceeds to fly through the White House dragging the Antidote behind him.

Marvel watches as the people slowly return to normal.

The worst of the Arkham inmates have been carted off to other maximum security facilities within the area, and I find myself handing over control of the situation to the GCPD. I'm worried though - I was promised backup, backup that was imminent. I try to raise Oracle on my comm, but she doesn't answer. I try not to worry. Babs is quite capable of taking care of herself. I think. Probably.

"Hey, is there anybody out there?"

Batwoman, the newest kid on the block. She sounds panicked, threatened. I feel that I should answer the call, on the basis that someone has to make sure she doesn't get killed.

"This is Nightwing, what's your status? I thought you were at the scene at Arkham," I ask her.

"I've kind of gotten...oh Jesus, this is freaky..."

Again the panic. This is...more than slightly concerning.

"Batwoman, what's going on?"

"It's a biker gang, or something like that. But...they look like the Joker. They've got this gas..."

I can't help but go pale. This sounds like the group that attacked the jewellers earlier in the week, and it also sounds like the group that I've been hearing about from my contacts on the street over the last few months. They're calling themselves "The Jokerz", a new street gang modelling themselves after the mad clown himself. If they've gotten hold of the Joker's gas somehow...then things were going to get very bad very quickly.

"I'm on my way,"

GRODD Menagerie
Part Eleven: Evil Turns In Upon Itself

“Active Evil is better than Passive Good." - William Blake

I quickly pull a taser gun from my belt and shoot two connectors into Grodd's chest. Sixty thousand volts runs through the ape's body, dropping him to the ground just inches in front of Luthor.

"Pack it in, Grodd. Flash is curing the people who were caught in your bomb blasts. It's over."

I recoil in pain as the electricity courses through my form, falling to the floor. My eyes water and my nose runs, but I make it shakily to my feet. A fleeting thought passes through my mind.

This is not going as I had forseen. Circe must've tipped her hand too early.

"It's... not over yet... human."

SUPERBOY

To review the situation, some supervillain has turned the citizens of Star City - and, from what we hear, cities all over the country - into bestial monsters who want nothing more than to tear us apart. Krypto, somehow, has been roped into this madness with a form of Kryptonian rabies. Cassie is incapacitated. A pink Lantern has arrived just in time to help, but her constructs are on the verge of breaking.

Green Arrow's bow gives a soft creak as he loads another arrow. Megan lands back within the pink constructs, looking concerned about Cassie. Beast Boy morphs into a green rhinoceros and prepares to meet a wave of feral attackers. Zach and I exchange worried glances as I ball my fists. Times like these, it really sucks to be the leader. I have to somehow convey that everything's going to be fine, when I don't know that for sure.

"Whatever happens, look out for each other," I announce. Hopefully, if I talk long enough, I'll parcel out some words of wisdom that'll get us through this mess. "We've already got one teammate down, and I'm not going to stand for another. If it looks like we can't--"

Just then, there's a familiar whooshing sound coming towards us. I know it well. I used to hear it a lot back when Bart was on the team. A blur of red hops over the pink Lantern's barriers, coming to stop only to hand me an armful of glass vials. "Hereusethisontheaffectedcivilians.It'stheantidote."

"Um, thanks, Flash. Hey, do you know what's going--?"

"Sorry,Superboy.Can'ttalk.Gottadispensemoreantidote.Goodluck."

And just like that, he's gone, leaving me cradling dozens of vials in my arms. The antidote. And not a moment too soon, either. Now, I just have to figure out a way to disperse it. And I think I have an idea.

"Hey, uh, Pink Lantern? (Sorry, didn't catch your name.) When I say 'now,' I want you to lower the shields." I turn to Zach. "Zach, if you can levitate the vials or something, I can use my superbreath to spray it like a mist over the infected."

Luthor holds what was the president in a stasis field. Killing him would probably cause some issues with the vigilante.

"Now, Mr. President stay right where you are while I'll clean up this mess. Voted in by the "I can get a drink with him" crowd...." He starts to cough. He is on one knee and raises his hand over his helmet where his mouth would be.

"No...not now, I need more time. I need to save the world..." He coughs up blood that stains the inside of his visor. The president bangs against his invisible prison. The coughing ceases for now and Luthor tries to get back on his feet. He stumbles back out to where the Super Lion has Batman in his clutches. Luthor tries to free him.

Too slow, damn it. The Super Lion backhands Luthor which sends him crashing into the Mall. He struggles to right himself up again. The coughing starts again.

"No...no...help me...." Luthor collapses on the side of the Mall.

Before I even realized the Flash was here, he's gone.

"Man, if that means I don't have to dance with another Wolfman, that's all fine and dandy by me."

As the Lantern chick prepares to take down her walls I clear my head, focusing entirely on each individual vial of antidote. For a split second nothing happens, but then one by one the vials begin to float up into the air. Before long they're all bobbing above our heads.

"Tag, you're it." I call to the Lantern.

Marvel sees Luthor collapse outside.

He might be the greatest villain the world has ever seen but he did try to help us today, and it's for the courts to decide his fate.

Marvel flies over to Luthor and listens to Luthor's raspy and shallow breathing.

He doesn't have a lot of time!

Marvel picks up Luthor and takes flight to Washington Memorial Hospital.

Marvel says, "I have a dying man here!"

The staff is stunned not only to see Marvel but who he is carrying in.

Marvel says, "He needs help and he needs it now!"

A nurse comes over with a gurney. She listens to his breathing and says, "Get him on it now he's goin' down fast! Wait over there!"

Marvel steps aside and waits.

"The name is Miri and I'm a Star Sapphire. We represent the Violet end of the Emotional Spectrum and our emotion is love. I came here when my ring told me that love was endanger and by the looks of it, quite a bit of love is endanger. Hopefully whatever you have in those vials will work to return those humans back to normal so their love can be found again."

Miri looks at her crystaline wall with all sorts of cracks and chunks falling off. She then points her ring at the construct and shoots a violet beam at it. With little effort, the rest of the wall crumbles and the crowd comes running rampantly at them.

"Whatever you have in mind, I suggest you do it quick before we get over ran."

The constructs come crashing down, and we're on the verge of being trampled by a veritable safari of beast-people. Zach levitates the vials in a circle around me, and I shout, "Everyone duck!"

As everyone gets down, I spin in a circle, unleashing a powerful blast of heat vision which reduces the vials to clouds of antidote and shattered glass. Once the vials have been destroyed, I continue spinning - this time exhaling as hard as I possibly can. The antidote sprays like a mist over the infected crowd. The beast-people stop in their tracks to process what's going on.

Pleaseworkpleaseworkpleaseworkpleasework...

One by one, they start to exhibit signs of recovery. Their beast parts shrink. They shed their fur. The crowd becomes distinctly human. I look around at the Titans with a big smile on my face. Even Krypto, who Zach had released from his orb-like prison, seems to be returning to normal.

Wondergirl

What seems like a cloud erupts from the street below me, and as the vapor washes over me, I feel my strength begin to return. With every breath, I feel stronger, and I even manage to lift off the ground and float towards Green Arrow and the rest of the team. I set myself down slowly and carefully, since I'm still a little wobbly.

Looking around I shrug to the team, "Well...these people certainly have some stories for the kids, huh?"

Miri

Miri notices the wobbly Wondergirl and creates a crystaline chair right behind her. She tries to add cushions to the seat and arms but still not sure how soft it would be to sit or fall on. After she is done with the chair, her attention turns to the crowd.

"Ring, are the hearts of these people back to normail?"

The ring scans the mob in front of the Teen Titans with a wide arcing beam again.

The hearts of the people are free to feel love again.

Then the ring shoots out two beams. One of the beams hits Superboy in the chest and the other hits Wondergirl in the chest. There is no force with the beams as they barely touch the heart area of both of them.

These hearts needs to feel love again.

"So you two are what drew me here. The mob was chaos but there seems to be great hurt and chaos in your hearts. I want to help mend those hearts so they can feel love again if you allow me."

"How are we suppose to open it?" A doctor examines the armor, perplexed. "Maybe we could use something to cut it open?"

"I don't think so....my sisiter saw this thing go toe-to-toe with Superman with barely a scratch. Let's get Captain Marvel. He could pry it up."

There was hissing noise that made the doctor and nurse jump. The armor begun to recede. First the torso, the arms bent backwards, and the helmet slid back. When Luthor revealed himself the pair was silent.

"Don't let that buffoon touch my armor..." He stumbled out and fell to the floor. There was a scramble as doctors and nurses placed him on a gurney and quickly wheeled him down him the hall. A cop noticed him while they rushed Lex to a room.

"My god...is that who I think it is?! What the hell is he doing here?"

"Officer, Lex Luthor is no harm to anyone right now."

"Yeah right. Wait until some alien robot comes crashing through the robot," he turned to his radio, "I'm going to need back up."

"He's a patient here and you will treat him as such."

"Fine but once your finished with him we're going to make sure that he's going to fry until he's nothing but ashes." The cop left him and they got him on to a bed. They hooked up all sorts of machines to him.

"Doctor..."

"Yes, Mr. Luthor."

"Do you honestly think you can save me?"

"We're going to try. We have to run some test first." Luthor gave a raspy laugh and started coughing again.

"Doctor, I'm Lex Luthor. I've seen things you wouldn't believe. While you broke your back at med school I defied physics with a blink of an eye. If I can't cure myself then there is no hope."

Marvel overhears the police officer and re-enters the room

He looks at the doctor and then at Lex.

Marvel stands off to the side and says, "Having someone as notorious as you Lex is creating some tension within the hospital. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt having seen what your body is going through right now, but there are those not so willing to give you that option. So I will stay in here and give them a sense of security."

He focuses his look upon Lex and says, "But consider this as a warning Lex. If this is some kind of trick Lex I will not hesitate to use all my powers to defend these people and see you brought to justice."

"If you knew what I knew and if I'm to assume you don't then my state has left me nearly complete harmless. I say nearly harmless because I still have my brain and I could turn these machines that are keeping alive into bombs, maybe a needle gun? Each shot containing a surprise disease." He stared at Captain Marvel with the utmost contempt.

His body was frail and malnourished but his mind was still cunning. He was tied up, hooked up, but from that room Lex Luthor was still one of the most dangerous men in the world.

"Spare me the lecture. Doctor no more visitors until he shows up."

"Who?"

"I think you can guess."

Marvel looks at Luthor with a glare that Achilles would even be impressed with and says, "All that might be true Lex but right now I know you're using energy to hang on for him and that is the thing that desire and goal that is driving you. The people in this room and I are not even a blip on your radar, just as long as you live long enough to see him."

The Doctor looks at Marvel and says, "Who in blazes are you all talking about?"

Marvel replies without breaking his look with Lex and says, "Up, up and away."

I stare wide-eyed at Cassie. She's looking down at the pink beam illuminating her chest. I want nothing more than to run to her, to throw my arms around her, and to tell her how I feel. But I can't. She's just getting comfortable being around me. And as much as I'm ready to forget the scars, I know she might not be. So even though I'd like to Miri up on her offer, I hold my tongue.

Cassie finally looks up again, and I turn my eyes away to avoid making eye contact. Stepping away from Miri's beam, I clear my throat and ask Green Arrow, "Is there anything more we can help you with?"

He shrugs. "Gonna have to clean up, but it's nothing I can't handle on my own." He looks over my shoulder at Miri and Cassie. Turning his attention back to me, he adds, "It's probably best that you kids run along and get your heads straight, like Oracle said."

SEASON IX: LEVITY, PART 3

Even though we've gone back and forth about it in length, Bruce has always argued that while many could perceive it as a "revolving door" of anarchy and chaos that has plagued Gotham as a whole since the turn of the last century, Arkham Asylum has always remained a symbolism of the effort that forged the ideologies that make Batman and others like him a necessity. While it's various wardens and doctors have come and gone, usually gutted at the blade of some madman's grip, Arkham has eerily remained an impenetrable force that seems forever attached to the city's history. No matter how many times you knock it down, it always seems to crawl back up and continue to immobilize the madness that seeps out of the city's cracks and creases. But despite it's persistence, that never seems to stop some lunatic from trying to tear down it's walls and unleash hell onto the populace. Usually to get back at one of us in a personal stake of revenge, or directly free one of the criminal masterminds the Asylum houses.

Whichever it is this time is irrelevant. Because by the time I make it to the scene, I'm actually surprised to see that the chaos has wound itself down - so much so, that no one seems to actually need my help. On the outskirts of Arkham Island, my night vision scope tells me that despite an earlier established sense of panic going off of Batwoman's briefing, the situation has contained itself through the perseverance of the security staff. Not that I don't notice the familiar black and blue silhouette moving along the walls aswell, looking out for any escaped convicts that Cash Warren and the other guards might have missed in the struggle to keep the Asylum on lockdown.

I barely surpress a smirk, lowering my scope. The more things change, the more things stay the same. Nice one, Dick. You're still every bit the Boy Wonder I hoped I could be.

Deciding that it's best to leave things as they are, I kick the ignition on the Ducati and continue on into Gotham. As much as I'm relieved that things were put on the fast track towards a resolution because of Nightwing's intervene, I can't help but feel like I just wasted my time stumbling back into old habits. When I was Robin, I had a pretty narrow set of goals established by my mentors: Stop crime first, let everything come second. But once I took a moment to look back on that philosophy last year, I realized where exactly that mentality had gotten me. While I was still licking my wounds from my fight with Slade Wilson, I briefly found myself dwelling on my father. For years, I had lived a double life that I don't think many of us got the chance to. I got to be a crimefighter and a son, working long hours of the night just so that I could support my dad through all of his struggles during the day.

But then things changed. As I developed my relationship with The Titans, hanging out with Conner, Cassie, Bart, Gar, and everyone else, I became more of the former and alot less of the latter. Most of my time was spent coming up with battle strategies instead of studying chemistry or attending school functions, and I was so caught up in my duties as Batman's protege that I wasn't able to see what was coming - namely, my father's murder at the hands of Captain Boomerang. Ever since that happened, I've been determined to change tactics for the better. Which is where my plan to run the scum out of The Narrows came into fruition. I'm not doing it for the sake of the mission, and I'm not putting my effort into it just to meet anyone's standards. I'm only doing it for me, Rose, and our baby. Everything else is going to the wayside.

Does it seem a little selfish? Sure, and that's part of why I decided to accept Batwoman's call. To make up for something that I felt I had been lacking on. But the truth is, I don't feel any more obligated to Gotham than I was yesterday. The city's in good hands with the others, and tonight proved that to me once and for all. I just want The Narrows for us - to be able to raise my son in view of my past, without subjecting him to all of the downfalls and horrors that come with it. As much as I know about the city, as horrible as the reality of living here is, I'm determined to show him only it's strengths. And hope he becomes a better man for it.

Tapping the side of my cowl as I veer onto Dixon and 3rd, my eyes scan the area for any onlookers as the bike slows down and cuts into a nearby alley, where the Ducati's hiding place awaits my arrival. Just a few more weeks of this, and I can store it somewhere else. Not anywhere as expansive as The Batcave, mind you, but close enough to it to be effective, yet mine all the same. Leaping off of it's seat, I wheel it over to it's proper spot and twist the module of my utility belt. The transponder in the area reacts, and blankets the Ducati in a field of light that blends into it's surroundings. Not a bad little gadget, for something I only worked up in my spare time.

Firing my grapnel towards the rooftops, I ascend into the night's air as my cowl's comm-link activates, telling me of an incoming message. Well, the most recent of the last thirty, anyway.

DC2-1.png

"Take it easy, Alfred. I'm on my way back now, just like I promised."

"I should hope so, Master Timothy. These walls aren't about to properly paint themselves, and I'm already two coats in on the master bedroom."

"Then be sure to save the third for me. Go ahead and take a breather."

"Rest assured, sir. I intend for nothing else."

I smile to myself. Even with the figures of his annual salary, Alfred could never be paid well enough for all of the multi-tasking he's able to pull off. Apart of me thinks that's the main reason that Bruce has never looked for hired help elsewhere, but I understand the other reasoning aswell. It's because he brings a warmth to each and every task that I think all of us treasure. Which is exactly why he was perfect for my latest little project in helping me set up shop, so to speak.

For years, I've traded homes more that I've traded shoes. Between Titans Tower, Wayne Manor, my dorm at Brentwood, and that old utility shack that I was living out of in my time away, I always felt like I was still living under someone else's roof. But starting now, that's all changed. After getting myself a part time job as a technical adviser to the offices of Wayne Enterprises' R&D division, I devoted part of my earnings and a generous trust fund towards the purchase of a brand new luxury apartment, right here on the edge of The Narrows. It's barely set up as it is, but Alfred's help is definitely gonna kickstart my efforts to move Rose in with me by the end of the month. For once, I'm actually gonna have a place that I can really feel like I can call home.

It feels good.

But more importantly, it feels right.

I've been standing in the parking lot since they went inside, waiting for them to come out. I've never been one who was keen on waiting, even less so now. Waiting means time spent with just your thoughts to keep you company.

Luckily, before I have to worry about that, I spot the woman and her daughter coming out of the grocery store, the mother laden with bags full of shopping. And here he is, right on cue: Jesse the methhead. He pushes the woman to the ground, grabs her handbag and breaks into a run, right towards me. Just like we arranged.

I punch him in the face, hard enough to break his nose, knocking him to the ground. That wasn't arranged - I improvised.

Grabbing the handbag, I approach the woman, helping her to her feet and handing the bag over to her.

"Thank you!" she gasps.

"Not a problem," I say, "Scumbags like that, preying on decent people. Makes me sick. You look all shaken up... I know a place nearby, I can get you a coffee, and this beautiful little girl here an ice-cream."

She seems hesitant.

"Look... I'm seeing someone right now..."

I laugh.

"Oh, no... I'm married! You're with your daughter, I'm not trying to make a move or anything. I just think you look like you need to get your nerves together after a fright like that."

She smiled and nodded.

"Okay."

I extend my hand out towards her.

"My name's Ryan," I lie, "What's yours?"

"I'm Mary," the woman replies, shaking my hand, "And this is Samantha."

I kneel down in front of the little girl, a smile spreading across my face.

"Hi, Samantha."

Bruce makes a lucky getaway from Clark's feral grip, and Luthor suddenly collapses to the ground and is carried away by Captain Marvel. Leaving the Marine Marvel and the members of the Justice League to deal with who is easily the most powerful of the entire group. Just moments ago while dealing with Despero the Aquatic Ace was turned against his comrades and was sent after Superman who took care of him within a matter of short minutes. Ever since the Darkseid incident Superman has been at an uncanny level of power which brings one thing to Aquaman's mind as he turns to a recovering Batman:

"How long do you think it will take for the antidote to fully do the trick?"

Aquaman looks in the air as the transformed Superman still struggles in the air, swiping at seemingly nothing and then cradling his head as though going through excruciating pain.

"Because with our luck this is a minor setback and he will be on the attack once again. He is much more powerful than he normally is. I just witnessed Superman effortlessly dispatch Despero prior to this after I was controlled and forced to try to take him down. To be honest...I am not looking forward to a rematch. Though, if it comes to it..."

Getting into a defensive stance, waiting for the timing to be right as he looks at the blue and red clad former hero, the Marine Marvel takes a deep breath.

"...I guess I won't have a choice."

The crimson motorcycle thundered down the streets of San Fransisco, weaving in and out of traffic furiously. Ignoring the angry beeps of horns and the occasional red light, Roy Harper found himself using all of his skills to not cause a major accident.

As he powered into a corner he found himself left with no choice but to stop. Traffic had piled up in front of him and people were running towards his direction, terror on their faces. Roy pulled the bike away, heading for a nearby alleyway. As he pulled the bike to a stop he glanced at his watch.

19.45

Cursing, he whipped off his jacket and placed a familiar red domino mask over his eyes. From the bikes satchel he withdrew a collapsible bow and a clutch of arrows. Racing from the alleyway he leapt up onto the hood of a car, giving himself the momentum to leap up onto the roof of an old white RV. Further down the road cars were flying into the air, mixing the crunch of metal with peoples screams and the roars of a monster.

Standing in the road, a huge mountain of a beast roared its frustration to the sky as it hammered its mighty fists into a -thankfully- deserted bus. Red Arrow knew the beast instantly.

"What the hell?" Arrow cursed to himself, as he nocked an explosive arrow to his bow string. Feeling the fletch of the arrow against his cheek, Roy loosed his weapon and without waiting for it to punch into the chest of the monster, he was already moving.

The beast roared as it sought out its attacker in the confusion. Arrow leapt from car to car, producing a trio of arrows that sang through the air and exploded in the face of the Shaggy Man. The creature stumbled back, thrown off-balance. Despite the scent of burning hair filling the air around him, Shaggy Man appeared otherwise unhurt. Roy cursed and considered calling in help but wasn't sure who was in the area. Instead he hit the button of his communicator, sending an all-points alarm to any other hero of The League or The Titans in the area. Sucking in a deep breath he moved into space as the monster charged him.

Roy rolled at the last second as the beast swung his huge fist towards the hero. He could smell the acrid breath pour over him as he ducked and leapt and created enough distance to pop off another arrow. As he did, the monster grabbed another vehicle, a maroon sedan and raised it above his head. Roy knelt to a knee and loosed an arrow, watching with joy as it punched it's way into the fuel tank under the car and a fiery ball of wrath engulfed the head of the creature. As the smoke cleared though, the creature stumbled forward, its eyes bulging with rage.

"What do I have to do to put you down?!" Roy growled, drawing another arrow. Then it hit him! Removing the tip of the arrow on his bow he replaced it with a short round tip and began to move once more as the beast came upon him. Ducking under more wild swings, Roy vaulted from a car roof onto a truck and leapt down the other side, ducking low and using the traffic to obscure the monsters view of him.

19.54

Roy glanced out from behind the car and caught sight of the beast, snarling and sniffing the air, seeking his quarry. Roy leapt out into the road, waving his arms in the air. "HEY! FURBALL! OVER HERE!" he shouted.

Shaggy Man spun and howled, baring dripping yellow teeth as his bellow echoed from nearby buildings. Roy ignored the chill shuddering down his spine and nocked the ball tipped arrow, letting it fly with a wish and a prayer. As the beast ran the arrow hit its target, slamming into the beasts mouth and exploding. Shaggy Man stuttered in its charge and grasped at it throat. Within its mouth a thick foam rapidly expanded from the exploded arrow tip and filled the throat, mouth and nose of the beast. Shaggy Man gasped and gagged but the foam expanded and began to harden, dropping the beast to it's knees and finally to the ground.

Red Arrow stood over the body of the beast as a dark shadow fell from above. Glancing up Arrow saw Hawkman and Captain Atom dropping from the sky.

19.57

"Arrow. What's happening?" Hawkman asked.

"A new Shaggy Man apparently" Roy nodded towards the downed beast. "I managed to down him with an expanding sealant arrow into the mouth. Restricted his airways".

"Smart move" Atom nodded approvingly.

"Listen, can you guys take over from here? I've got to be somewhere?"

Atom landed and patted Roy on the shoulder. "Of course. You get out of here, me and Hawkman will clean this up".

Lian Harper swallowed hard as her small shook almost uncontrollably. She squinted hard, trying to look through the series of bright lights that obscured her vision.

In front of her another girl dressed in green danced across the stage towards her, her green tutu sparkling in the stage lights. "Come on! We have to save the garden!" she sang.

Lian glanced at her and glanced back to the crowd assembled. From the side of the stage her teacher was waving energetically, encouraging her to speak. Lian shuffled uncomfortably and adjusted the patch over her eye.

"We really need to hurry!" the little girl repeated.

Somewhere in the hall a door creaked and Lian squinted to see her father trying his best to sneak into the hall. With a wide grin she turned to her co-star and grinned. "Let's do it then Tink!" she sang back, giving her performance everything she had.

The traffic on the comm-link almost makes me want to gag.

As 'Drake the Fake' swung himself up, the boy tossed a vial out of the shadows over at him. Damian imagined that 'the Fake' should at least have enough sense and skill to catch something so obvious. "That's a cure from Grodd's beast bombs that my father developed," Damian said without preamble, announcing himself even as he fired off his own grapple line to swing away.

He was doing this because his father asked him to, but that didn't mean he intended to stick around or make conversation. He still had Dicked Grayson and Blabs Gordon to round up after all. Commissioner Gordan had been easy to take care of, Damian had just slipped the cure into the man's coffee without the good policeman ever needing to know that Damian was ever there. The practice in skills he'd honed as an assassin had actually been fun for him.

Something any interaction with the Drake was not going to be. "You might consider not taking it though. 'Ape' would be an improvement for you," Damian cracked snidely, as the boy swung off his line.

He shrugs. "Gonna have to clean up, but it's nothing I can't handle on my own." He looks over my shoulder at Miri and Cassie. Turning his attention back to me, he adds, "It's probably best that you kids run along and get your heads straight, like Oracle said."

I've never wanted to hit an ally. Not until now. The pink girl has no right to step into my business. I just met her, and now she's saying I need to reconnect? What does she know? What right does she have?

"Yea, thanks for the help, Green Arrow," I nod to the senior hero. "Shall we head back to the Tower?"
