The "World of Heroes" DC RPG Season VIII

It's not the sexual antics of the two Robins that make an impression me...it's the face of the second one...

Jason

I can still feel his limp body in my arms. The heat slowly ebbing out. Then I remember the twisted image he had become. Consumed by his hatred of me and the other Robins...then I think about what he is today. A victim of a head-injury, confined to an asylum with not short-term memory.

The fear and doubt starts to creep up in my chest as the Robins claw at my pants.

"Get the **** outta here!"

A purple whip cracks at the three yellow copies of Dick, Tim, and Jason. They all disappear in the whip-crack of the bullwhip.

"Come on now, Bats. You're starting to feel fear, I can tell. Get your mind right and let's kick his ass."

"Gadner...shut up."

I charge at the Joker. Guy takes the hint and covers me in purple energy. I rush forward, striking Joker in the head with a violet coverd fist.

The punch sent The Joker flying off his feet and right off the rooftop. He landed hard in the street below, putting a crater in the road.

"Ouchy! I'm feeling the love, Batman. HA! Get it, LOVE? HAHAHA!"

Rising from the crater, wiping blood from the side of his mouth, The Joker turned his attention to the terrified civilians staring at him. His ring created a whole series of giant springs, launching these civilians into the air - some pedestrians, others in their cars - all of them flying high in different directions.

"It's like Pokemon, fellas! Gotta catch 'em all! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

I whip around the air, catching people with purple nets. I turn around to see Batman gliding to the street. He pulls out a small communicator and speaks into it.

"Calling for help?" I ask as I continue to catch airborne Gothamites.

"In a manner of speaking."

His car, the Batcar or whatever the hell he calls it, roars down the street and slams into Joker at high speed.

"Ouch."

After sending Arkillo away, I receive hear an incoming message from my power ring. Looks like this entire Corps has come out of no where to attack Earth, but why?

INCOMING MESSAGE FROM LANTERN JORDON: "Hey, are any of you guys near the moon; there's a sniper on the loose over there!"

"This is Kyle, I'm on it!"
I hear Rayner say, but I'm having too much fun as it is; exactly what I needed after all this prophecy nonsense. "Meet you there on the way, Rayner. Sodam out!" Rising from the ground I then fly up as fast as I can to the planet's atmosphere attending to catch out the sniper when all of a sudden, a massive cannon like blast comes shooting down towards me and sends me miles off course and back to the planet.

***
Outside Arkham Aslyum

After sending my message, I try my best to avoid the Yellow Lantern guy; seeing as he's fast and has a power ring, that proves difficult. "Come out, Earthman...you can only last so long against a power ring!"

If there's one thing I've learned about training under Bruce, is that fighting dirty is sometimes the best option when your hopelessly out-powered. All of a sudden the talking alien fish comes out in front of me, I then throw four batarangs in his direction.

"I don't fall for the same trick twice!" He encases them in a yellow bubble.

"That's what I was hoping!" He looks confused, I then turn off my vision off in the mask as I then hear him scream. I threw a load of light bursting batarangs at him and now he remains temporarily blind.
Without hesitation I jump from the fire escape and lay a swift kick from my right foot as he falls to the ground unconscious.

I get my com-link out again, "Nightwing here again, I managed to get one of these Yellow Lanterns knocked out...but I don't know for how long and....."

BOOM!
"What the hell!?"
I run towards the sound of the explosion and from the many patients running a muck, there seems to be a hole in the ground where Arkham used to be. "It's him, it's Nightwing!!!" one of the many inmates yell as my attention is diverted from that to them. Running, I knock two heads together, punch someone's chest, throw a few smoke bombs all so that I can get to the main island.

Arriving there and knocking down a few of the escapes I then notice that it's one of the Green Lanterns, and he has white skin and defiantly looks human. I rush towards him, worried it may be Kyle or Hal but as I look closely I realise that I don't know him and his uniform looks different from the others, checking his vital signs I notice he's alive.

***

I look around me and notice the crater I created on impact I turn to see an Earthman wearing a strange costume as he talks to me.

251052-164838-nightwing.jpg

"Are you alright!?" He asks alarmed.

"I'm fine, thank you..must have blanked out on impact......where am I on this planet anyway?"

"Gotham City, in the United States. Only place worse than Apokolipse.......in my opinion. Are you new to the Corps, you sound and look like you're from Earth?"

"No, I'm from Daxam in Sector 1760. We Daxamites look similar to you humans in many ways."

"Wow....you're a Green Lanterns and have Superman's powers!? Glad you're on our side."

I look confused and surprised that he knows so much of the Green Lantern Corps and seems to have more knowledge of the universe than I do, I try not to think of Daxam right now as I float up and see the city on the other side in chaos. Giving him a chain link he grabs it as I see many earthmen in what appear to be prison uniforms.

"Looks like you need some help, mind if I...."

"Be my guest!"

I create a large construct that takes half the roadside part and encase the prisoners in a wall, which I then slowly change into a prison; giving the ring orders to keep it contained for 48 hours. The earthman jumps from my link to a near by building and lands quite easily.

"Thanks a lot....um, sorry...I didn't get your name?"

"Sodam Yat."

"Well, thanks Sodam....I'm Nightwing."

We shake hands as he gives me a smile, he seems really pleased that I managed to contain the prisoners. "Ring, number of prisoners captured by willpower?"

213 OUT OF 525. 112 ESCAPED

"If you want, I can help you..."

"That's al right, I think these Yellow Lanterns guys are all over the place. Think the other Lanterns could really use your help."

"Well, nice to meet you Nightwing. You just reminded me why I ended up in this city anyway!"

I then fly up, using my natural powers from the yellow sun to fly instead of the power ring's so that I'm able to avoid the sniper's gaze. As I fly towards it that's when I notice Arsia's and Tomar Tu's voices from behind, I stop quickly for them and we both create large shields for all of us.

"Sodam! You've had a fine carer in the Corps so far, and I don't want that to end just now!"

"Is that the only reason?"

"Not now!"

Flying closer and closer to the Earth's moon we then notice the blazing green and yellow combat happening there, we all know what to do as we fly as quickly as we can towards it, I of course arrive first as the Parallax sniper aims near John Stewart and Kyle Rayner, he doesn't even notice me as I fly him straight to the Moon's surface, with my eyes glowing red I'm ready to finish the job but he makes a random burst of yellow energy as I fly up and land right next to the two Earth Lanterns with Arisia and Tomar not far behind.

"What the hell are you doing, Sodam!?"

"Thought you could use a hand....hey Kyle!"

I saw three more Green Lanterns glide down, one brighter than the other. Sodam Yat, accompanied by Arisia and Tomar land next to me and John.

"What the hell are you doing, Sodam!?"

"Thought you could use a hand....hey Kyle!"

Sodam was the new Ion. It's a cool place to be, if slightly daunting. Yat takes it all in his stride. Kind of surprising for somebody so new to the Corps. He wields it all well.

"Good to see you, Sodam. Think you can contain the sniper for a second?" I asked him, tactics running through my head.

Sodam could probably take this guy on, but we need tactics if we're going to survive the "Blackest Night" thing, so tactics is what we'll use.

<INCOMING TRANSMISSION: To all Green Lanterns, this is Wildcat. Anyone need a hand out there?">

Wildcat? I thought I'd heard him via the ring before, but in the heat of battle, your kind of a little bit too distracted to answer the phone.

"Welcome to the Green Lantern Corps, Ted. Head on up to the Moon if you can, we've got a biggie to take down up here," I said into the ring, before turning to John and the others.

"Here's what I'm thinking. John and Sodam, give us some covering fire while us three and Ted can storm the big yellow lobster. Sound like a plan?"

Not the most complex of plans, but a plan all the same...

Gotham City

"What's that in the sky?"

"Is it a bird?"

"Looks more like a whale,"

"You're both wrong - it's some kind of manta-ray,"

Tim Drake sped through the streets of Gotham on his bike, Stephanie Brown clinging on weakly to his back. In the sky above him was a colossal creature that partially resembled a giant stingray. There was a crackling of energy, and the street lights began to dim. Stephanie's grasp grew weaker.

"Come on Steph, hang in there," he murmured as he sped towards the cave.

"Batman? Oracle? Come in," he shouted into the commlink in his ear. He looked up at the behemoth above him, that was surely interfering with his signal somehow.

There was a crash as something large and winged crashed into the side of the bike, knocking it over and sending the passengers sprawling along the hard roadside. Tim looked up at the creature that towered over him, resembling a pterodactyl.

"Shall we kill the girl first?" it asked, showing an alarming number of teeth.

"Bring it," Tim growled, launching himself at the creature. It easily back handed him, knocking him back against the ground.

"What the hell are you?" Tim asked, wiping blood from his mouth.

"We are fear," the grinning monster said, advancing towards him.
601101-616px_isilliencomic_super.jpg

Tim flicked one of the batarangs out of his utility belt, hefting it in one hand and throwing it towards the creature. The small piece of metal embedded itself in the creatures wing, merely enraging it. It grinned nastily as it made it's way towards the teen heroes.

Red Robin grabbed Stephanie and threw her onto the sidewalk before jumping on top of her, throwing his cloak over their heads. There was a collossal bang that made Tim's ears ring. Stephanie spluttered, her eyes flickering open as she looked up at Tim.

"Why are you on top of me?" she asked as Tim rolled over and re-attached the cloak to his neck.

"Exploding batarang," he said "The cape's lined with kevlar so I thought it might offer a little protection..."

"Protection from what?" Steph asked.

Tim looked around the scene of devastation. There was a corner shop that had had it's window blown in. An eerie yellow light was eminating from inside.

"Time to go," Tim said "Now,"

The teen heroes grabbed the motorbike, and head off towards the Batcave.

The Moon.

Yeah...sure. Not a problem. I can do this.

I blow out some air as I look up at it.

"I mean, how hard can it be? Alan does this all the time."

I start to feel fear-

"Ah, screw it."

I launch myself into the sky and just concentrate on going faster and faster. Quickly, the sky fades to black and I realize I'm not on Earth anymore. And I start to grin...

...until I see a bright yellow beam lance out to the Earth.

"There you are, you bastard. Lanterns, I've gotta fix on the shooter, home in on me."

I veer off and head for the source of the shot.

I can run at close to light speed on a good day, faster even, but that didn't end well the last time I did that. Needless to say, I'm fast. The so-called Fastest Man Alive. I've raced Superman and won.

But if I have to be honest, a Green Lantern can make me look like a snail. They can travel lightyears in hours, though they don't usually do so within the atmospheres of the planets they protect, or so I've been told. Hal's bordering on disregarding that habit now, and I've got to hustle to stay behind him.

I tried to give him his privacy, but I couldn't help but hear the transmission from his ring. Carol telling him that their son, Martin, is missing. He started off towards Coast City before the idea of Hal being a father even imprinted on my consciousness. I'll let that concept baffle me later, right now I'll stay at Hal's side and see this through.

One thing worries me though. The look on Hal's face when Carol's message came through. He was visibly shaken for that millisecond before he took off. Most couldn't tell, but I saw it, and combined with my current perdicament, it worries me.

How can we be the Brave and the Bold when we're afraid and confused?

flash-2small.jpg

"Carol!"

I burst into the ruins of my apartment, and find my wife waiting there in hysterics, still in her Star Sapphire outfit. I hug her, looking down at the dead body of our babysitter. She was just a girl...

"Martin. What happened to Martin?"

"I don't know! He's gone, he's..."

Carol breaks down again, her head falling into my shoulder. She hasn't even noticed Barry yet.

"Ring, any energy signatures?"

<SCANNING.... ENERGY RING, QWARDIAN IN ORIGIN.>

The Parallax Corps. But there are 1000s of them, and it could have been any one of them. Martin, my son, could be anywhere. If he's still alive...

"Oh God."

Breaking away from Carol, I sit down. I realize my hands are trembling. I don't know what to do. Where do I start? A universe of monsters, I can't fight all of them one by one until I find my baby boy.

"I can't do this."

I...

I'm afraid.

"We have an intruder in our midst." The Guardians floated around an image of Black Hand who was running down a corridor.

"Is it a member of the yellow or red corps?"

"Negative, he has been identify as William Hand of Earth. One of Hal Jordan's adversaries."

"He operates primitive weaponry, minimum force required."

"Are you not blind, brothers?"
Ganthet's spoke up which silence the others' chatter.

"Before you continue, Guardian, choose your words, wisely."

"I will speak however I please. No one have ask how a simple Earth man has gained access to our domain. No one has brought up why a scan of his weapons shows Apokolipian technology."

"Many of Earth's population have the uncanny ability of gaining access to other world technology."

"Indeed," a female Guardian spoke up, "but you have decided to remain ignorant to a key fact. The ring around his finger." The image showed a close up of Black Hand's finger and the ring with the Omega Symbol on it.

"A mere trinket."
The ring shot through a wall

"Ganthet, Sayd we will have Black Hand dealt with. There is..."

"Enough! A path of death, banishment, and conspiracy have you lead and now we demand answers. The Fear Thing has escaped and now a lone man armed with weapons of the Evil Ones has breached our space. Bio Scans have shown that his will has been corrupted. There will be no more lies."
For a time there was silence a group of Guardians talked amongst themselves.

"Very well...the truth. The Blackest Night is real and it is our fault."

*********
"I wish I was on Earth, Tama Rein."

"Why would you ever wish for a thing like that, Ser-An."
The rookie Green Lanterns were not permitted for Earth. Their inexperience would have made their careers as Green Lanterns very short. Instead, they have been given strict orders to stay on Oa until the battle is over.

"That is where the action is. When I became a Green Lantern I didn't wait to waste the days making a green fist for hours." A wall near them erupted with Black Hand standing there.

"I think you got your wish."

"This is Green Lantern Tama Rein. We have a intruder on the training grounds."

"How about a fistful of willpower." The rookie shot out a green fist which seemed to dissolve when it touched Black Hand's black wall.

"Little Lanterns your will is nothing compared to my master and soon to be yours." Two black barb wire constructs came from his ring. They cut through the incoming constructs and wrapped their necks.

"I'm looking for Granny perhaps you can help me. I mean you will help me. I will take choice from you." He placed his hand on one of their hearts.

"Now, give in." Tama Rein let out a scream. His green costume turned to black, his ring mutated into a black one.

Will Destroyed. Mind Overridden. Die for Darkseid.

"What did you do to him?" Black Hand could see the yellow light of fear covering his body.

"I made him a appendage of my master. You're next."

******
"Don't you see what your secrecy has caused. You allowed a Level Omega Mind Destroyer in. Anti-Life has arrived."

"We will contain it. We are the guardians," they spoke in unison.

"No, the universe must know,"
Sayd spoke up, "We must align ourselves with the others. Only in unity will we overcome Anti-Life and the infinite scourge of the universe."

"No we will not allow you to sully what we have built. The other corps will be destroyed along with Black Hand."

"The threat of Darkseid has jeopardize all of existence. Reality decay has commenced."

"This is why you two were not told. We involve ourselves in the War of the Gods to stop the threat of Darkseid once and for all."

"You broke the pact we made with the Dark Lord."

"He was dead and now will will keep him that way."

"As for the both of you. Banishment."

"You do not have the authority!"

"Yes we do. Your presence threatens the good of the universe. We have decided an isolated planet for you two until the situation is over."

"Sayd, my hand!"
Sayd grabbed Ganthet's hand and the two vanished.
******
Black Hand and the two new Black Lanterns continue to fight off a swarm of new Green Lanterns. Each time a Black Lantern touch another Lantern's heart and wasn't removed in time the person fell victim to the equation.

"Yes! More wills to fall! More to to die for my master.Your useless resistance pleases my master."

"Come on, Lanterns. Let's show him weren't not afraid of him or his master!" Something crashed through the roof splitting the Green Lantern in half.

"Carol!"

I burst into the ruins of my apartment, and find my wife waiting there in hysterics, still in her Star Sapphire outfit. I hug her, looking down at the dead body of our babysitter. She was just a girl...

I...

I'm afraid.

I'm a step behind Hal when he enters his ruined apartment. I try to remain out of the way as he and Carol hold each other, each looking like they're about to fall over. Every fiber of my being wants to comfort them, but this is their grief, and I feel out of place here.

I spend my time examining the body of who I assume was their baby sitter. Young girl, maybe between 16 and 19, with much of her torso gone. The grisly wound looks cauterized, not exactly characteristic of a power ring, but when a weapon can do literally anything, it's hard to pin it down. Hal's ring confirms the energy signature, so we know the weapon used.

I look over the girl's body, my eyes drawn to hers, blank and lifeless, like those of a grisly doll. I'd hate to be the one to break this news to her parents. The very thought of their reaction, a mirror of what I'm seeing in Hal and Carol, grips my heart with an icy hand. I suddenly remember that I haven't gone to see Iris yet. Not now though. She'd understand, and this is a bit much to explain in a quick phone call. What's happened since I've been gone? I'm a cop, I've seen my share of crime scenes, many of them disturbing, but in the world of the cape and cowl, the superhero realm, things were... simpler, maybe? Definitely not like this. Not like this at all.

This...

This won't happen again. Not anymore. Not on my watch. First order of business, find whoever did this. How many of these yellow lanterns can there be?

I whip around the air, catching people with purple nets. I turn around to see Batman gliding to the street. He pulls out a small communicator and speaks into it.

His car, the Batcar or whatever the hell he calls it, roars down the street and slams into Joker at high speed.

"Ouch."

The Joker throws up a barrier at the last moment, and the Batmobile crashes into The Joker with such force that it rips in half. With a well-timed tentacle construct, The Joker plucks Batman out from the wreckage.

"See what happens when you drink and drive?" he giggles, "Good thing you have a buddy like me around to watch out for you!"

The tentacle wrapped tighter around Batman's throat.

The tentacles begin their suffocating grip on my neck. The life begins to slowly ebb out of me...until a violet machette comes to my rescue.

WHACK!

"I swear to God. For a guy I don't like, I seem to have to save your ass a lot."

Gardner pulls me away from Joker with a tractor beam. Once I'm out of the way, he charges Joker in a ball of bright purple energy.

Trapped inside the violet bubble, The Joker's eyes widened, and he pointed over Guy's shoulder.

"Behind you!"

Just as Guy was finishing his sentence, a yellow demon dog sunk its teeth into his shoulder.

"Don't say I didn't warn ya! HAHAHA!"

Guy turned round, and was faced with another member of the Parallax Corps.

"Friend of yours?" I ask Gardner as he bats away one of the dogs.

"I ran into her while I was giving Wildcat a crash course on using a power ring....long story, I'll tell it to you after we're done here."

Gardner creates a cat made of purple energy and lures the dogs towards him. That's when he sends the cat shooting up into the air with the yellow constructs giving chase.

"Come on, Lady. Let's see if your mutts can keep up!"

Guy and the Lantern dissaper into the sky, leaving just Joker and I on the street.

"So, terrorizing the citizens of just one city wasn't enough. You had to branch out to the whole galaxy."

Kara floated over the bay, staring at her cloned cousin and his teammates. She breathed deep, enjoying the feeling of the air in her lungs again.

"Yes, Kon. It's me."
The image of his cousin's mortal form floating above him fills Conner with a sense of nostalgia. Emotions sweep through him, memories filling his mind of the good times when things weren't so complicated and perverse. "...You're alive..." As he begins to drop his guard, a cautionary thought suddenly pops into his mind. He remembers the fight with Powerboy - the painful betrayal - all because he droped his guard for only a moment.

"Wait," he says in a stern voice, pulling back hesitantly."I watched you die. I saw you fade into the afterlife... You can't be Kara." He raises tenses his body as his eyes begin to burn a deep red, thin smoke billowing from his corneas. "Explain. Now."

"Aw, are you jealous? Don't worry, Batsy, I'll still be sure to make time for you. You'll always be my favorite."

The Joker blew a kiss in Batman's direction, a giant pair of yellow lips indeed hovering out of his ring and hovering towards him.

"But it's so wonderful. Imagine the power, Batman! The power to make your every thought, your every crazed whim, come to life before your very eyes. My only limit is my imagination! That's what you've always wanted, isn't it? A chance to see inside my mind...""

"I don't care to see the inner workings of your diseased mind..."

I crouch in a defensive stanch, prepared for the next horror Joker throws at me.

I can't give up. For Martin's sake, I can't.

"Carol... you need to stay here. If any information, if anything comes back here, someone needs to be here to get it and pass it on."

She doesn't look happy with this suggestion, but she doesn't have the energy to argue. I know how she feels. I turn to Barry.

"We better start looking.... one member of the Parallax Corps at a time, if we have to. My son could be anywhere."

Sector 3599
An Unknown Planet

"Welcome to your new home, my little ones."

Kryb had arrived in her nest. Several empty pods lay open, awaiting their residents. One by one, she removed the infants from the cage in her back, and placed each of them in a pod of their own.

"The nutrients in these pods will keep you healthy, keep you pure. Keep you young and innocent. It's good for you."

Now she removed the last child from her cage: the son of Hal Jordan, Green Lantern of Earth. Well, he used to be the son of Hal Jordan....

"You're my children now. Forever... and ever... and ever."

I stand and nod silently. My gaze catches Carol's and I see a sort of surprise, dulled by her grief and distraction. I give a very weak smile, a sort of sad hello, and then turn back to Hal. He's looking far more grim than I've probably ever seen him.

"Where and how do we start?"

"Where and how do we start?"

"We start punching members of the Parallax Corps in the face until one of them tell us something useful."

I never was one for intricate planning.

With that said, I fly off into Coast City, in the direction of the yellow lights.

"I don't care to see the inner workings of your diseased mind..."

I crouch in a defensive stanch, prepared for the next horror Joker throws at me.

"Why not? Afraid that diseased mind would look a little... familiar?"

The Joker chuckled to himself, pacing a circle around Batman, his ring crackling.

"It's interesting. This ring really highlights the point for me. Both of us use fear as a weapon. I'm not talking about cut-rate artificial fear in a can like our mutual friend Dr. Crane, I'm talking about that mythic fear that grows into something bigger than a mortal man. The kind of fear that makes people whisper your name in hushed tones. Fear has been a good friend to both of us."

Hal flies off, but I linger for a second more.

"We'll find him, Carol."

And then I'm gone.

"You're right. Regardless of our ideals, we both use the same weapon to achieve our goals....but there is a difference. Intimidating cowardly criminals is one thing, but what you do can only be considered atrocities. I try to make this city a better place to live, your only goal is destruction. No matter how much you preach about our similarities, when it's all said and done we're both on opposite sides of the line. On my side is order and control, and on your side is anarchy and chaos."

Jonah Hex had been transported to a work camp run by a megalomaniac who had managed to steal a time traveling device. Hex was put to work mining for gold, under any resistance he was savagely beaten. After weeks he was obediant. Every night as he and the other workers slept in their camps they would see flashing lights off in the distance, yellow, green, and violet.

"Muss be nahce to be celebratin somethin" a bruised and beaten Hex mutters as begins to drift off. However before he can enter the comforting sleep

BLAM!

Something had hit the administrative building of the work camp. In the chaos that followed Jonah slipped out the back of the house. Gunshots were heard as well as the sound of screaming men and what sounded like a gurgling brook. Then with incredible force the front of barrack was torn off, and there stood, surrounded by yellow energy, a man... or atleast something that looked like a man. His face was horribly distorted and his gaze was empty, as if no thoughts were processed except for one. To kill.

"Has the great father sent you to free us?", a woman asks crouching forward. The distorted man slowly turns towards her and reaches out his hand.

"Yes! Finally! Someone to save us!" just then she takes his hand.

"RAAAAAAGHHHHHHHurgle..." she melted as if an ice cube in a frying pan.

"I ‘spose I don’t need tuh tell the rest of yuh not tuh touch that yella feller then" said Jonah Hex reappearing with one of the guards’ guns, a six shooter, behind the fearsome foe. The yellow man turned and began to walk toward Hex. Jonah raised his pistol, just as he did so the man clenched his fist and an orb of yellow energy surrounded him. As Jonah fired three shots, three deflections were heard.

"The hell kind of iron is this that can’t bring a yellabelly like him down?"

He could feel the power of the gathering light surging through the spectrum. It fed into him like a distant, rumbling drumbeat. The sound of war and anger, rage and death.

With each passing moment the drumbeat grew louder and stronger. It fed his hate and nourished the fire coursing through his body.

Atrocitus rose from his seat and regarded his Corps, a writhing mass of wild eyes and snarling jaws. Their rage pulsed as one and Atrocitus revelled in it. The drumbeat fuelled the Crimson King into an almost euphoric state of awareness and the light called his attention. With his back to the giant Central Power Battery behind his throne, he raised his lantern and placed his ring facing it.
With blood and rage of crimson red,
Ripped from a corpse so freshly dead,

Together with our hellish hate,

We'll burn you all-
That is your fate!

"The day of reckoning has come!" he roared, holding his fist in the air. "The light is gathering and the prophecy is unfolding. We have bloodied the Oans on their own terms before now and soon we shall dine on their hearts. We will rend and tear and burn.

We are many.

We are strong.

WE ARE INVINCIBLE!"

His feral Corps roared their approval and raised thier ring-fists into the air, before blazing into the blackness of space en masse. Atrocitus himself lead the charge.

The Crimson King would have his day, yet.

"BURN!"

Atrocitus grinned as the trio of yellow lanterns fell to his flaming constructs. He had been here before, to this place. Many many years ago, when the dark prophecies of the Blackest Night had driven the Green Lantern, Abin Sur, to Earth and Atrocitus had played his part in the Lanterns death.

He had almost succeeded in locating the power source that the dark prophecy had foretold. That was until the interference of Green Lantern Sinestro and his sidekick, the Earthman, Hal Jordan.

Now though, Atrocitus was back in this godforsaken pit of a world and with a rainbow of Lanterns appearing in one place, he knew that that the prophecy of the Blackest Night was approaching.

Suddenly, a bright yellow monster descended from above him, catching Atrocitus off guard and smashing him through the air. Before he had time to recover, a golden lance screamed towards him, taking him high in the shoulder. Hot corrosive blood poured from the wound and down over the Corps insignia on Atrocitus' chest. The Crimson King roared his anger and turned to meet his attacker, his ring crackling with hot energy.

Infront of him, floating a few feet away was a familiar face. Atrocitus snarled and brought his ring to bear. "You look like a man I once I knew, boy".

The Parallax Corps member sneered his own contempt. "I should look familiar to you monster. It was the Green Lanterns machinations that drove my father to madness, but it was by your hand that he died. Today, you'll meet that same fate!"

"You are the son of Abin Sur?" Atrocitus asked. "How ironic that his spawn falls in the same place as he himself did". Atrocitus flicked his wrist as a deadly torrent of hellfire engulfed his enemy. "Tell me your name boy, so that I may know who I am killing today".

The hellfire was deflected by a golden shield, as the son of Abin Sur rolled away and struck out with constructs of otherworldly weapons. "I am Amon Sur. Remember it, monster because it's the last name you will ever know!" With that, the weapons fired, driving Atrocitus back. Amon surged forward, the constructs becoming huge fists and battering Atrocitus.

The leader of the Red Lantern Corps spat and snarled at the onslaught, but could find no opening for a counter. The huge yellow fists grew smaller as Abon moved closer, before eventually, the fists were mere light constructs reinforcing Abons own punches. Atrocius snarled and grabbed at the Lantern, forcing him back with a blast to the chest. He followed up with a series of blazing assaults, each breaking through the desperate defences of Amon.

Atrocitus let up as a charred and battered Amon Sur floated before him. "You have great anger in you, Sur. Know this though, your father took me as a hostage. The act of war was his own, fuelled by the Oans deceptions! I too have been victim to their evils! Embrace your anger Amon Sur and direct it at those who truly deserve it. Join with me and we will take the fight to those blue tyrants and their Lanterns. Embrace the rage in your heart and here, in the final resting place of Abin Sur, we will make them burn!"

Amon floated in the air and as Atrocitus rose over him and removed his yellow ring, crushing it in his palm.

"Very well Atrocitus, an enemy of an enemy shall be my friend. I will help you raze this city to the ground and then destroy the Oans. My father will have his vengeance on those who doubted him".

Atrocitus leered over Amon Sur as a red ring descended from the heavens. Atrocitus grasped it and held his palm out. The red ring sat upon the dust of the yellow ring.

"Amon Sur of Space Sector 2814, you have great rage in your heart. Welcome to the Red Lantern Corps".
