I just think it would come down to execution. Just because there hasn't been a good Fantastic Four/X-Men crossover in the comic-books it doesn't mean a writer or director can't make a great Fantastic 4/X-Men movie.

How is that beneficial for Fox for a long term goal though? Nobody is really talking about plots, interactions or reasoning other then psylockolossus and his other dimensions idea.
Let's wait and see what happens with Apocalypse before we start speculting if they do something with Original cast again
Singer has plans for another Marvel movie, which he won't go into other than to call it a Marvel Universe "mash-up"

Ellen Page, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore, Daniel Cudmore have all the perfect age, and taking into account Hugh joins all parties, Marsden has a nice age too and would join perfectly, and Kelsey is on board too, well.... its not like the XMen team is a problem.
^ But I still have to ask, which X-Team would it be?
If it's the OT cast, which I believe makes the most sense, placing the movie in the present, some of the characters you talk about likely won't be able to be in it.
Their involvement is completely inconsequential. You don't have at least a combination of HJ, Marsden, Berry, & Famke then no crossover. No one wants X-Men's B-team and F4. Go ALL in or not at all.
I don't think the OT cast would even return to be featured with the Trank cast. No disrespect to those FF actors, but why would the OT want to play second fiddle or have their screen time cut in half with a cast from what is looking like a marginal CBM at best. It's not exactly the same as trailing behind JLaw, Fassebender, and McAvoy. I doubt their reps would have them sign on to any cross over. If they come back, it is going to be for a guest/cameo appearance, or for a major feature film, not some kind of cross over with Trank's universe. Obviously I am of the firm belief that this banter is all hosh-posh, so take it for what it is worth.
At best it could be as good as X-Men Days of Future Past or Dawn of The Planet of The Apes
thats your opinion.
Give the audience Hugh Jackman, Ellen Page, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore, Daniel Cudmore and James Marsden all in costumes, and I bet you the audience and fans would get pretty excited, even if a few actors dont repeat.
6 original actors looking more badass than ever would get attention, whether some fans like or dont like some of them.
What I don't want to see is the geriatric X-Men versus 30 year old actors who are playing 20 something characters... That means, unfortunately, no Stewart or McKellan, and likely no Jannsen, Grammer or Berry. And if you don't have Jean, then really no reason to have Scott, so no Marsden either...
