This is a continuation thread, the old thread is [split]518401[/split]
speaking of which, wasn't there a younger white kid cast? wasn't he supposed to be someone who "looked up" to Peter or something?
have we heard anymore about him?
of course.
not as hardcore of a fan as I used to be when I was younger, but still a casual fan.
He'll probably be Miles.![]()
in regards to Barbieri playing "Jason," isn't he younger than Tom?
Age isn't listed. Angourie is younger than Tom, though.
Haha, still awesome.
I'd probably cry.
He'll probably be Miles.![]()
Why? He'd be miles away from the traditional depiction? But as long as the characterisation is correct, that's all that should count. He'd have his own new arc like MJ does now. He could even have a new surname and be Miles Warren.
thanks.
so Betty, who's often portrayed as older than Peter, is now going to be younger than Peter.
it's like, whatever the comics and prior films did before, we're going to do just the opposite.![]()

hey, y'know what I say?? DO IT!!![]()
I'm joking of course.
but, in a perversely curious sort of way, I kind of would like them to do it.
just to see the reaction and just to see how "consistent" people are.
I mean.....why not?? it seems like just about every HS age character in Spidey's universe has been mixed around and changed.![]()
Think you forgot to add "because we're Marvel Studios and people are going to see it anyway." Which is the sad truth in all of this.
I've always believed that if they get Peter/Spidey at the core right, everything else will fall into place. Welp, Tom's Peter/Spidey underwhelmed me in his short screen time and his supporting cast is really just becoming odd.
I'm still waiting to see if we'll either have no Bugle or Garcelle Beauvais is playing a gender-bent/race-swapped JJJ.
Subtle pun.
Dad Joke Raven returns. But hey, if we got him as Miles Warren, that would explain Selenis Leyva playing "Ms. Warren" where in this continuity she's his Mom.![]()
Professor Miles Warren, normally the Jackal who hired the Punisher to kill Spider-Man, would be turned into a high school kid to replace Miles Morales as an admirer of Spidey and the future Ultimate Spider-Man. Sounds about right for this movie.![]()
the irony of it all, is that I wanted Marvel to get the rights back to Spidey, cuz I figured Marvel would be the ones to finally make a more comics accurate Spidey film. I figured they'd be the ones to finally get Spidey and his world "right." Especially after the TASM films, which I also felt changed stuff for the sake of being different from the Raimi films.
I WANTED the Spidey films to reboot under Marvel.
and now........well..........![]()

Now there's no-one left to get it right.
But will MJ in the comics be changed as well and become Michelle who is awkward and dry and goes through a makeover? Usually the comics and cartoons follow suit so that everything is consistent. Maybe the original Mary Jane will be retired and fall into obscurity eventually as Michelle Johnson becomes the default version.
This is why I don't feel bad about being a fan of TASM series. For any/all faults they had, I did feel like they had good intentions with creative choices they made and some of them were downright ballsy.
I was on board with Spidey at Marvel because I knew it made the most sense in terms of long term prospects, the character's popularity, etc. etc. but most importantly because it felt like the time was right.
- I had issues with The Lizard for example, with the lack of his family and his wishy-washy character hurting him. Sucks because he's my personal favorite Spidey villain and it really would've helped if they just played on the aspect of saving the man but stopping the monster. Sadly the two became the same the majority of the time and it left more to be desired.
- I had issues with Peter, mainly TASM where him being an on-and-off skateboarder ultimately didn't add or detract from the character. It was just there and it seemed so pointless.
- I had issues with 'em skipping over Uncle Ben as much as they did, though I get why they did (since we were spoon fed WGPTMACGR in the previous trilogy).
- I had issues with the whole spider bite being destiny as opposed to a curse. Liked that they tried something different, but ultimately it wasn't really needed (as was the entirety of another origin story) and that's basically all my grievances I've had with that series.
However, I also always felt (sometimes small, sometimes largely) that had Sony dumped Avi Arad (and Matt Tolmach but mostly Avi), the Spider-Man series could've been a lot better as a whole. Perhaps Spider-Man 3 would've been a great film. Perhaps Spider-Man 4 would've been a greater film. Perhaps the reboot would've been more accepted when the time was right and seen less as a "knee-jerk reaction to obtain the rights".
From the Sony emails, I am pretty bummed we won't get another Sam Raimi trilogy that focuses solely on Spidey's silver-age days or a series that moves past both high school and young adulthood and thrusts Peter into adulthood with him teaching at his old school, having a great relationship with May and MJ, etc. etc. or even a 2099 series (which I've wanted since I was a kid).
I mean, we have the animated film for an alternative to this series if it doesn't go our way but again..Avi Arad.
I'm happy to fall back on my various comics at least if this doesn't suit my tastes in the end of it all, but it sucks I'm even considering that. Ah well, still gonna give this a shot when it releases.![]()
thanks.

yeah. strange times indeed.
I may just go and rewatch the TASM films. who knows, I may end up liking them better.......lol.
in hindsight, maybe the Dylan O'Brien for Spidey crowd had it right, maybe they should have gone for older Spidey in college.
maybe the older age range would have broadened the net of available actors and actresses, instead of casting all these younglings.
maybe.....just maybe.......we would have gotten something closer to the source material.
or maybe not.....
Which takes away another dynamic that worked: Peter hitting on the older woman but ending up on a date with her. Now, if Peter is older than Betty, not only is it now Peter robbing the cradle so to speak but also Betty is supposed to be the gateway for Peter into the Daily Bugle. Which again, makes me fear that the Bugle will be a school newspaper or possibly online news/blog columns.
To be honest, I would rather take a race-changed J. Jonah Jameson played by Terry Crews or whoever than get a Ned, Flash, and MJ that are nothing like what they are in the comics.

Worth a shot anyway.
I just think a young-mid adult Peter in College offers more not just for the character himself but everything around him. The O'Brien for Spidey crowd were obnoxious at times (with that particular casting), but they had it right with wanting an older Spidey.
Probably would've solved my issue with this Spidey being not-so independent right off the bat.
I will always think source material will have limited effect on live action adaptations but it certainly wouldn't hurt to at least be a bit more comfortable with it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I just feel this picture sums up this film so far, especially looking at the different contrasts:

Or a tabloid magazine.
Terry Crews as JJJ would be great regardless of whether they planned to be more accurate or not to source material. It's Terry Crews.![]()
in regards to Barbieri playing "Jason," isn't he younger than Tom? like, several years younger?
