Say, didn't del Toro said in the dvd commentary that he didn't like that crease in the middle of the horns on Hellboy's head? Wasn't that something they should have fixed? The new picture shows that the crease or wrinkle or whatever is still there.
Nope, I think he was talking about that rim around the horns that sort of bulged. And it looks like that is indeed gone...Say, didn't del Toro said in the dvd commentary that he didn't like that crease in the middle of the horns on Hellboy's head? Exactly. As much as I love the first movie, it doesn't hold up to the gloomy, understated atmosphere of the comic. I'm definitely not one of those fans who thinks everything needs to be translated literally from page to screen, but I felt the movie really lacked that great creepiness, that quiet and subtle macabre the comics exude. I don't care about cosmetic changes when you adapt a comicbook, as long as the mood and tone is right and I think they focused a little too much on making it more sci-fi, more glitzy, more "X-Men" in the movie.I'd like to see it be a little more horror and a little less sci fi- In other words, a little more Mignola style, a little more macabre.

I mean, I just adore the fact that in the books, the BPRD is essentially this understaffed, old-timey agency that's probably still in the same building and on the same budget since it was founded in president Roosevelt's day. I didn't see what was improved in the movie by making it this "Area 51" clone: the clichéd huge government secret facility that has virtually unlimited technology and resources.
Hellboy's universe has so much charm because it's sometimes a little corny and lame, but also very rich and epic. It's getting that balance right that I think is the hardest part of adapting it.
Was watching the first again tonight and while i still love it, i still thought there were some MAJOR problem's with it that can hopefully be fixed in the sequel. Here are mine:
Some Poor Wirework: Some of the wirework in the HB action scene's was both obvious and painful to watch, they REALLY need to fix this in the sequel as it took me out of the movie whenever it occured.
Left Hand Of Doom: Dont know if anyone else noticed this but sometimes Hellboy had a left hand of doom as opposed to a right one in the first movie. Again this was obvious and was also unneccessary IMO, I dont understand why they had to do it and i dont want to see it in the sequel.
Plotholes: I know every movie has them, but HB had some GAPING plotholes in it, from Abe escaping unscathed despite being surrounded by Sammael's, to Kroenin and Sammael trying to kill Hellboy when their master, Rasputin, obviously needed him and Liz alive.
CGI Hellboy: Again, sometimes i felt this was unneccessary, other times, not so much. But on occasion they could have still used a real actor intead of a CGI stand in in the movie. It not only dates the movie, but also, the CGI wasnt the best (due to budget i know), so hopefully we wont see as much of it in the sequel.
So those are things i want fixed for the sequel, anyone agree or have other suggestions? Let us hear them!
Yet again, I have to say that Movie Abe is different from Comic Abe - and Mike was very happy with that, and still is. He actually prefers that others have their own 'take' on his work.
Very astute observation. There's a Victorian-era, Lovecraft-esque pathos and aesthetic that could really make these films something special. I'm surprised Del Toro missed that to the degree that he did.Nope, I think he was talking about that rim around the horns that sort of bulged. And it looks like that is indeed gone...

The only thing they need to fix IMO is the anti-climatic ending the first one had. It was missing some actual tension... it just seemed to happen and then was over with no real sense of actual danger.
About Hellboy wearing shorts,I am totally against him wearing them when he is fighting bad guys. IMO,he would look really stupid fighting in shorts while wearing boots and a trench coat. IMO he should only wear shorts when he is chilling out in his place.
Doe's anyone know if Abe will get a chance to finally kick butts?
Yeah, i know what you mean, the ending just seemed tacked on in the first one, and didnt match up with the other action scene's in the movie.
Its been confirmed that Abe fights in this one, watch the 2nd trailer and you see parts of it.
