Things they need to fix?

Say, didn't del Toro said in the dvd commentary that he didn't like that crease in the middle of the horns on Hellboy's head? Wasn't that something they should have fixed? The new picture shows that the crease or wrinkle or whatever is still there.

I'd like to see them balance the elements of action, sci-fi, spookiness, and humor better. All those elements were there in the first one, but the felt kind of awkward at times to me.

Nope, I think he was talking about that rim around the horns that sort of bulged. And it looks like that is indeed gone...

I'd like to see it be a little more horror and a little less sci fi- In other words, a little more Mignola style, a little more macabre.
Exactly. As much as I love the first movie, it doesn't hold up to the gloomy, understated atmosphere of the comic. I'm definitely not one of those fans who thinks everything needs to be translated literally from page to screen, but I felt the movie really lacked that great creepiness, that quiet and subtle macabre the comics exude. I don't care about cosmetic changes when you adapt a comicbook, as long as the mood and tone is right and I think they focused a little too much on making it more sci-fi, more glitzy, more "X-Men" in the movie.

I mean, I just adore the fact that in the books, the BPRD is essentially this understaffed, old-timey agency that's probably still in the same building and on the same budget since it was founded in president Roosevelt's day. I didn't see what was improved in the movie by making it this "Area 51" clone: the clichéd huge government secret facility that has virtually unlimited technology and resources.

Hellboy's universe has so much charm because it's sometimes a little corny and lame, but also very rich and epic. It's getting that balance right that I think is the hardest part of adapting it.

I do hope we get more of the atmosphere and creepiness of the comic this time, i agree it was mostly missing from the first movie, so to see more of it in this one would be a great reprieve.

Was watching the first again tonight and while i still love it, i still thought there were some MAJOR problem's with it that can hopefully be fixed in the sequel. Here are mine:

Some Poor Wirework: Some of the wirework in the HB action scene's was both obvious and painful to watch, they REALLY need to fix this in the sequel as it took me out of the movie whenever it occured.

Left Hand Of Doom: Dont know if anyone else noticed this but sometimes Hellboy had a left hand of doom as opposed to a right one in the first movie. Again this was obvious and was also unneccessary IMO, I dont understand why they had to do it and i dont want to see it in the sequel.

Plotholes: I know every movie has them, but HB had some GAPING plotholes in it, from Abe escaping unscathed despite being surrounded by Sammael's, to Kroenin and Sammael trying to kill Hellboy when their master, Rasputin, obviously needed him and Liz alive.

CGI Hellboy: Again, sometimes i felt this was unneccessary, other times, not so much. But on occasion they could have still used a real actor intead of a CGI stand in in the movie. It not only dates the movie, but also, the CGI wasnt the best (due to budget i know), so hopefully we wont see as much of it in the sequel.

So those are things i want fixed for the sequel, anyone agree or have other suggestions? Let us hear them!

A-F*#&ING MEN BROTHER!!! Listen, I agree with these (the flipped Hand o' Doom didn't really bother me all that much but it should have been noticed upon editing of the scene that happened in..mishaps happen)

I remember hearing about this comic and then eventually the movie and I got soooo stoked it wasn't funny. Now here is a horror story and a half! I got SO JACKED UP for this movie I was on cloud 9 at the thought of seeing it...after watching all the Tv Spots, Trailers, getting the figures....then the day came where I actually went to see it. Now unfortunately for the audience I was in the stupid projectionist was thumbin' his ass because he didn't properly align the reel causing us, the audience to see BOOM MICs in a couple of scenes as well as any and all subtitles to disappear--so you can appreciate how gawdamn silly the scene is with the talking Corpse...nobody had a CLUE what was going on..it was all gibberish.

Now all of that coupled with some poor CGI elements HORRENDOUS wire work (notably the scene where HB is outrunning a collapsing bridge..wow, I was expecting the theme from Looney Tunes to start playing and him going "Badeebadee dats all folks!"...horrible), some humor that was just embarassing in a few scenes well (there are two demons battling it out in the middle of a jam packed subway system and some stupid lady starts goin' off about her crate of kittens? COME ON MAN!!! We get it..we get it he likes KITTENS!!)

..needless to say if anyone even mentioned Hellboy around me they'd be gettin' a nice punch in the balls.

However...that being said, I did give it another chance..it was better the 2nd time around because our theater actually had a competent projectionist so no Boom Mics were in the shot and I could read all the subtitles....because of that I was able and allowed to enjoy all the coolness the movie had to offer. I still got quite pissed at the wire work done by a bunch of 5th graders and the CGI apparently approved by Stevie Wonder, but overall the movie was very cool a second go around.

Now all that being said, I dont mean to be hard on the movie, I do understand what 'limited budget' means, and I know how much hard work goes into making a movie and what a labor of love it was for everyone involved but I find that there could have been something done about a few of my concerns (not only mine btw TONS of others share my same views)...if anything that friggin' wirework...christ.

Now we've got Hellboy 2 coming out and the trailer looks brilliant..tons of action to be had I'm sure and amazing characters...I think Mr. G. has had some time and more money now to make THIS the Hellboy movie that everyone deserves..or at least more people will enjoy. Just my ..well 5cents I guess...that was a little more than 2 :oldrazz:

Yet again, I have to say that Movie Abe is different from Comic Abe - and Mike was very happy with that, and still is. He actually prefers that others have their own 'take' on his work.

I'd save your breath Hellmistress, Stan Lee never minded changes to movie counter parts of characters he worked on for years either, yet the fan base still complains.

It's hard for humans to let go of what they know and go in with a blank slate and see a character a different way then they are used to.

People are just too uptight. Every comic hero I've read and loved who's been put on the screen has just blown me away.

Even if it doesn't have that effect on you, just think of it this way:
It's better than having nothing.

As much as I wanted to love the first, it was just lackluster - not excitable, slow, it didn't balance the action with the fantasy well enough. Hopefully with this second one the minute we sit down we'll be in awe and sucked in.

can they fix the marketing and advertising for this film.
it kinda stinks.

Well it's kind of early. The movie doesn't come out for a while, while Iron Man comes out in about a month and a half so they're bombarding us.

I think that Del Toro needs to fix the tone.

Meaning, like in the comic, it should be darker and more morbid.
However, the comic also had a good sense of humor. it's dry and somewhat absurd. The first Hellboy had comedy but it's too light and whimsical. I just think that Del Toro is not very good at comedic timing...

Very astute observation. There's a Victorian-era, Lovecraft-esque pathos and aesthetic that could really make these films something special. I'm surprised Del Toro missed that to the degree that he did.

It may not be his fault. Studios and producers love giving notes and changing things that they feel should be "fixed."

Well, whatever the case, it isn't quite there. Tonally, the first one was a bit too contemporary.

I do hope they go for more of the look and atmosphere of the comics in the 2nd movie, and judging by the pictures and trailer we have so far, it looks like they are doing that. I loved the first movie, despite its obvious flaws, but i think TGA will blow the first one out of the water.

GDT is an amazing director, and after Pan's Labyrinth, i have total confidence HBII will be awesome.

Not necessarily something that needs to be fixed, but Rasputin's lair, that vast mausoleum, was mindblowing. More of those landscapes please!

^Agreed, but judging by the trailer, this is what we will be getting in abundance. The troll market alone looks simply stunning.

One other thing i will ask for as well, is a better final fight at the end of the movie, the one in the first movie really dissapointed me, and i felt it was one of the poorer action scene's in the movie, which surprised, considering the final fight in Blade II is still IMO the best one in ANY CB movie.

So a better final fight this time please GDT! I know you can do it!

The only thing they need to fix IMO is the anti-climatic ending the first one had. It was missing some actual tension... it just seemed to happen and then was over with no real sense of actual danger.

I liked Hellboy but I wanted to love it but with all the plotholes/bad wire work/no intense sceens of any kind(I really didnt believe hellboy was evil and him ripping of his horns happened so fast I didnt get any time to process his good side taking over). However I still liked the movie I just hope this one had better CGI better script and please give it a darker tone.I hope this turns out like X2 where X-men was a solid effort but X-2 was just amazing

About Hellboy wearing shorts,I am totally against him wearing them when he is fighting bad guys. IMO,he would look really stupid fighting in shorts while wearing boots and a trench coat. IMO he should only wear shorts when he is chilling out in his place. :yay:
Doe's anyone know if Abe will get a chance to finally kick butts?

Yeah, i know what you mean, the ending just seemed tacked on in the first one, and didnt match up with the other action scene's in the movie.

Its been confirmed that Abe fights in this one, watch the 2nd trailer and you see parts of it.
